At 15 years old (61 years ago), II tasted my first Louisiana pralines while on a tour in New Orleans! My mom, brother, and sister and I were returning on a cross-country round-trip train trip from Florida to California to Florida. We stopped over in the French Quarter in New Orleans. When I tasted a praline, I thought I tasted heaven! What a treat! Obviously, one of my most memorable food memories! I may have to recreate that memory. Thank you!
Hey Annette, was you riding on an Amtrak train! And was it the Crescent? I made the trip to New Orleans 6yrs ago from Bham Al. And loved it. It was my first time on a train. My hubs was working down there and I went for his 60th birthday. Took him gambling at Harrods Casino. Fantastic fun! 💜🫶🏼💜
@@sheilad83 It was an Amtrack train. Not sure about the Crescent, but that does sound familiar. At that time, the train had one car that especially attracted me -- the dome car! I loved riding in it through the desert, because of the 360 degree views of that colorful landscape that I had never experienced in person before. Unfortunately, we broke down in the desert for 4 hours and it got unbearable hot inside for awhile.
1 cup sugar,, 1 cup light brown sugar, salt, evaporated milk, cook on stove til boiling and mix in vanilla, pecans, butter, 50 xs mix, til thickens, spoon on parchment paper rapidly!
If you put a towel underneath the wax paper, the pralines will not stick to the countertop and they are much easier to remove without breaking. Born and raised in New Orleans….

My son went to Tulane in your fine state and bought home a recipe for Pralines from a class mate raised there by a beautiful Black lady who worked at a known candy store. It is like yours except uses buttermilk instead of evaporated milk--gives it a wonderful taste. Try it sometime. My grandfather was a bricklayer in Cleveland, Ohio. He laid bricks by hand on high rise buildings with Lake Effect winds from Lake Eerie beating him down. He would come home from work and soak his hands in Epson salt everyday. He was the toughest, manliest man I knew. Also, he loved to bake; pies, cakes, tarts. He loved to sit down with a recipe book or watch a cooking show on TV. Some of my greatest memories were sitting on a stool and visiting with him while he baked. The house smelled so good and he always made it funny by imitating a Julia Child voice. So glad he didn’t think baking was women’s work!
My grandfather was from New Orleans and every year him and my grandmother would go down to see the family. The one thing I really looked forward to when they came back besides Grandma's hugs was the pralines that Grandpa had brought back for me. All the childhood memories of pralines from New Orleans
Long term illness, I cant cook anymore . My husband does all the cooking now. He loves it, and can cook better , than I ever could think about cooking. Who knew? He didnt, and neither did I Praise God!
Wendy a Christian, hi, if that illness is Lupus or other autoimmune do this: 3 months on the pesticide poisoning stripper that removes heavy metals too, Floressence Tea 2x daily, on empty stomach whenever possible. Directions say hot but cold full strength works too. No floride in its water or wrecks 40%, no plastic touching its water or wrecks 60%. Next clean every G M O food out of your life, especially G M O canola hiding as 34% of every oil bottled by Ma fia. Use any Trader Joe oil, or California olive oil with a blue butterfly, not Costco blue butterfly oil. This clears respiratory diseases, except a little overlap from yellow G M O corn. You may use any white corn. Next: a severe Keto diet 6 weeks. We even dropped carrots ,onions, and coffee. This kills any parasites associated. They can't breed without carbs. The first woman to do this all at once was cur ed before week 6, by blood work and symptoms. I had taken much of a year with God helping. We both started from the Lupus unwarned falling stage. If you don't make the 6 weeks keto use only beans as your carbs, black, pinto, or navy. If nuts are allergins skip 4 weeks and use each only 1 time in 2 weeks. Start with paecons, do cassues last.

I haven't made pecans in a few years, but I remember my first pecan praline, from a Stuckey's, on a trip somewhere in the south, where I did grow up (in Memphis). Fell in love, found a recipe in Joy of Cooking, and started making pecans as a child. I had been making fudge for years. The only way I could get sweets was to make them, so I began making candy and baking cakes at a young age. I made a 7-layer torte before I was 12, and one of the greatest sorrows of my young life was that I did not have a pair of matching cake pans. My mom, who did not give a hoot about cooking or baking, had a hand-me-down 9-inch and a slightly newer 8-inch. I hankered and hankered after a matching pair of 8-inch cake pans. So I bought a pair early in my marriage, and never saw them again, as my husband decreed they were unnecessary! Why, oh why, is having a matching pair of cake pans unachievable for me, even though I am the bread-winner?
how you get soft ball? I went through 25 pounds of sugar trying to make fudge I bought a thermometer and tried a glass of water it all failed 20 years ago, I for got about that made this last night ''not remembering this is softball'' to the tee and it ran all over the counter! never again.wish I didnt come across this .

If you can only give the amount to me in me ounces, don't worry, I can convert it to millilitres. You are quite lovely, thank you

I wish i could cook like them. Your the closet to her cooking so thank you. She made pralines witch she called pecan candy. Best grandma ever in my life.GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY.
I just made a batch of these following Phil's recipe. I used the same tiny can of condensed milk, which is actually 5 oz., not 4 oz. They turned out very good. I put the pralines on waxed paper, but the heat got wax on my table top. (This probably isn't an issue if you have a marble or quartz counter-top, like Phil's.) I will use parchment paper next time. He's right, of course - even the 'spoiled' ones taste great!

Except he called me a girl the entire time I watched the video….
@@ronmarchorro2992 LOL...
Omg the recipe works as written and shown and it takes 10 minutes from start to finish! They came out perfect. I did add 1/4tsp pumpkin pie spice to test for upcoming holidays and it is perfect. Thank you Phil ❤️
Great recipe Phil God bless you
"Look here Girls..See Girls!" LOL lol My goodness I love this man !!!!God bless you Uncle Phil!!!💚
Looks pretty good Phil I miss you so my husband and I used to watch it every time it was on. He passed away in 2017 so I just catch it when I see it.
Add a little cocoa powder to the sugar & make Kentucky fudge. Add a little peanut butter when you are whipping it and make peanut butter fudge. Thank you Phil I watch most of all your videos.
I love to listen and watch Phil cook! He has the BEST recipes and his technique is right on. You rock, Phil!
Mr. Robertson, I appreciate your teaching. Thank you sir.😊
This is my mom's recipe, too. We're from New Orleans. It's the best.
Those are sweet memories for sure. Some men do think a kitchen is only a woman's place. They are not that well rounded then in my opinion.
My grandfather was from New Orleans and every year him and my grandmother would go down to see the family. The one thing I really looked forward to when they came back besides Grandma's hugs was the pralines that Grandpa had brought back for me. All the childhood memories of pralines from New Orleans
Just made them for my family, amazing. Thanks Phil
Darn it Phil! I’ve made these twice now and we can’t stop eating them!!!
I’m gonna try to make them!!!
Long term illness, I cant cook anymore . My husband does all the cooking now. He loves it, and can cook better , than I ever could think about cooking. Who knew? He didnt, and neither did I
Praise God!
I have always adored this gentleman. I Love his relationship with the Lord and how he stands up for his beliefs in him. Now I saw him cooking and I am keeping and going to do all his recipes. Thank you and praise God for you. Great family man you are! ❤ I pray the Lord keeps you and your family. Love from Pennsylvania 🙏❤️
Mr. Phil , I just made your recipe for the Pralines. I always found this intimidating for me to make. I followed your tutorial step by step and let me tell you they came out so good. Thank you so much for the recipe, tutorial, and for sharing it with us. God bless you and your family always.
Phil i am in trouble and sin but i am thankful to the lord that i came across you, you inspire me to do good in my life in the name of Jesus i pray for forgiveness and i pray to be cleansed of the sin that covered my life. Thankyou from Canada.
Love me some pralines. We make them on every holiday and so delicious.
I never realized how easy it was to make them.
@@pisteuostew5911 easy peasy. Give it a try, you won't go wrong. Lots better than the store bought stuff. Good luck.
Yummmmmy! My grandad always made them, we are from Arabi well my grandad is from Springfield! He’s gone now but always made the best candies! No matter what it was always great! GOD BLESS U AND UR FAMILY AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Arabi, Louisiana? I'm from there too, small world 🌎
Trick here for those of us in different elevations for cooking is get that to 234 degrees then your good to add nuts butter and nilla!
Awesome. Put up the recipe. You made me hungry. A man that can cook is a blessing from God.
My family usually only eats pralines for Christmas. We like to make them and give them as gifts to family and friends.
That's what i do also, and everyone loves my presents the most!! Ha! Take that, big box stores.
May I ask how you “package” them for gifting?
@@janetwelch9040 we usually layer/stack them on waxed parchment paper. We use Christmas cookie tin containers if we’re gifting them and want to be fancy but if you don’t have one of those we use Tupperware containers and a Ziploc bag.
Thanks for the reply!
@@janetwelch9040 it’s not uncommon for people to gift Pralines, Fudge, Millionaires, Holly Jollies, And Divinity. The Divinity is the hardest to make because the weather has to be right or the Candy won’t form. Divinity is my favorite. We also make Peanut Patties and Peanut Brittle. Peanut Patties are found in most stores and is a year-round dessert and peanut brittle is usually found around Christmas time also one of my favorites around Christmas. A gift of any of these fine candies is Southern Hospitality at its finest!
I started making turkey in a boiling bag for me and my brother when I was 10. I always liked to eat so I learned how to cook. Nothing like making food for a bunch of family and friends. Food is love
Can’t wait. How is Miss Kay? First time I am watching you cook.. love you and your family., you guys make me laugh
I love Phil and Kay so much! I love how simple of a life they live when they have so much money. Humble people that know what’s important in life!
Hello Dear
How are you doing today?
I love the way mine came out after following your recipe. The evaporated milk made a big difference❤🙌🏾❤️
Thank you
Thanks!
Hmmm…serve Pralines to my guests? Well….I must confess there’s a good chance I won’t have any left after ‘sampling’ them! 😋💗😁
This little girl from Lafayette just made the best pralines ever and so very easy. Thank you, Phil.
This man has touched my heart.
Butter, sugar, canned milk , pecans ....what more could you need to make something fantastic !! Wish this family were my neighbors ...or mine had same values ..behaviors. Smiling as the count goes ..cuz how true on counting 50 times, his hints, tricks, exactly what happened, what & when to expect .. best recipes are exact like this ! My mom's no bakes, exact boil time, exact stir time then on the paper they went otherwise, like chocolate oatmeal !! Thank You for this recipe!! HUGS to all here ! Blessed Christmas & beautiful New Year to come !!
My husband is so much like him as far as cooking and loving and being godly. I am a lucky woman. Thank you feel for showing us that recipe.
making some for my coworkers in arizona. man i miss home sometimes, lousiana cusine is the best in this galaxy. hands down. deep deep multicultural food.
I love it when you and Miss Kay show us your southern home cooking 💕🙏🙏
I was born and raised in New Orleans. I left but never lost my taste for a good praline. I've made them many years ago, but not like this. I believe your way is the best way. Im going to try them NOW. THANK YOU!
I love cooking for my wife, actually and I cook for us atleast 90% of the time
But...do you clean up after cooking?
@@pisteuostew5911 most of the time
I made this recipe just as you instructed...Absolutely worked out perfectly. I didn't need a candy thermometer. I lived in Baton Rouge for10 years and fell in love with pralines. Thank you for the easiest recipe. Love and light from Oklahoma.
Phil is a great teacher needs his own cooking show....guess he got it here. Young cooks need to learn to just dive in and try it. Don't be scared of cooking.
Thank you, brother. That do look good. I didn't realize it was that easy. I will be making me some God. Bless you and your family
Oh my gosh ... Louisiana pralines are the best 🙌🏼🙌🏼 am from Louisiana by the way 😂
This recipe is fantastic! Paula Deen hasn’t got anything on Phil. My family loved these! Pralines with fresh Georgia pecans can’t be beat! Thanks Phil
Phil, you are an American treasure!
My Italian/Puerto Rican self wishes he was my Uncle!
He's my brother in Christ, but man, I wish I was his Kin. Even at 42, I still need a fatherly/uncle figure like him for humble guidance.
Lost my dad, and most of my uncles. So...yeah...thats where the desire comes from.
💖🙏🌟
We now have smell-a-vision. I made some pralines yesterday, and this was in my feed today.
Phil's cooking shows are my favorite on the you -tube!! Love this praline recipe 🥰
Those look so good!! It made me think of datenut fudge for some reason! And it is very easy but so good!! Take the sugar, evaporated milk, salt & cook, add butter, chopped nuts & chopped dates, stir. Pour onto damp cloth, then wrap wax paper around it,roll into log & refrigerate til solid then slice.
@@hollyjollydogjust get a candy thermometer and cook until it reached the temperature listed on the thermometer for soft ball.
What a thoroughly delightful and genuine fellow!! I've never heard of such a thing, (I'm from the North Island of New Zealand), but I'm going to make these wonderful treats. I was won over when they were snappy and not tooth breakers! If you could give me the amount in the small can of evaporated milk, I would be very grateful, as we only have large sized cans with 340 millilitres in them. If you can only give the amount to me in me ounces, don't worry, I can convert it to millilitres. You are quite lovely, thank you
Looks like a 5 oz can

Love Phil's cooking lessons! And I try them out.
And these are amazing too. I did use dark brown sugar and an 8th teaspoon cinnamon. Fabulous.
Your thd best phil. 👌. My family is from Louisiana. I was born in Texas. Luckly we went every summer to visit my grandma.. uncle Joe.. Buddy my grandma's boyfriend/helper and the rest of the family. Loved it. Everyone chipped in and helped out like a fzmily suppose to do. Granny made the best treats... biscuts and gravy and what they called louissna coffee that we ate every morning and eggs.loved my family visits with them. They are gone now but not in my heart. I wish i could cook like them. Your the closet to her cooking so thank you. She made pralines witch she called pecan candy. Best grandma ever in my life.GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY.
We LOVE YOU MR. PHIL❤😘 THATS AWESOME!!! I GOING TO TRY THIS RECEIPE TONIGHT
Yall love him. Why was his show canceled?🤣🤣🤣
You could put a cookie sheet under the wax paper. I also use my scraper to clean those type of things up. Love pralines haven't had any since moving from Louisiana. I'm going to have to try this also.
These were super easy to make and delicious! Thank you Phil!
Made these today to go along with some other holiday treats. Phil is an excellent teacher. They turned out great.
Love it... disclaimer: no man hood was harmed in this video :)
I made his pecan pralines they turned out awesome. My family loved them. Thanks for the good recipe. Have a Blessed Day!!!
Always wondered how to make these! Thanks, Bro. Phil!
I love how your ingredients almost all come from Louisiana. My Bangkok friends, who've never tried pecans, are blown away by these pralines. Thanks, Phil; much love.
I know what I'm making for Christmas presents! Here in Oklahoma, we call them pray-leans.
In Ga too.
In Wisconsin as well
And San Antonio, Texas. My grandma used to make these all the time. I'm gonna make some in her honor. Miss you Grandma!
