- Budget 2025: FM Sitharaman Announces Goal of 100 GW Nuclear Energy By 2047 for "Viksit Bharat" | N18G
In Union Budget 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a nuclear energy mission with an outlay of Rs 20,000 crore for "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). The mission aims to generate 100 GW of nuclear energy by 2047, marking a major step towards India's energy self-reliance. Sitharaman emphasised greater private sector involvement in nuclear energy production, encouraging investment and innovation. The government will also promote the creation of small modular reactors (SMRs) to enhance efficiency and scalability. Additionally, power sector reforms and capacity augmentation will be incentivised to ensure a robust energy infrastructure. These measures are expected to accelerate India's clean energy transition and strengthen its long-term energy security.
