Pongala ----- song is from the musical album Suvarna Pushpanjali. This song is sung by Vrinda Menon, a prominent play-back singer and TV presenter. The popular duo of T S Radhakrishnan ji and P C Aravindan Mashu have composed the music and written the lyrics respectively.
While Sabarimala is a pilgrimage place for the male and women between the ages of 10 and 50 years are not allowed to visit Sabarimala, the Attukkal Bhagawathy temple is where the women do pilgrimage once a year and this ritual on the designated day each year is a ritual for women only. Male devotees cannot perform the ‘Pongala ritual’
Located in Attukkal taluk, a suburb in Thiruvananthapuram, this temple is very popular for its Poongala festival. The ‘Pongala’ is done by women across all strata of the societies, where everyone braves the heat and completes the ritual.
