- Ever wonder what happens to your empty plastic bottles after you put them in the recycling bin? Watch this cool video to see how empty bottles are turned into other products. The guy in this video says his recycling factory is hungry for empty bottles, so we all need to recycle more and promote recycling! Plus, in case you haven't heard, it takes much less energy to make products from recycled material rather than using virgin materials.

Great video! Recycling is great for the community and the world, the world goes through millions of plastic bottles, and it is important that these are recycled so they do not pollute the environment.
The whole unit takes a great deal, especially the magnet seperator. Yet it is necessary to do this job for recycling and better environment. Deserve a praise.
I had NO idea this video was actually going to be truly interesting. Thanks for the good work as citizen journalists. You spin a good yarn!
The great news in Australia is that in the past 5 years more and more big shopping centres across the whole country are installing recycling bins for cans and bottles. Cool hey :)
Great Video!! I am an avid recycler myself and appreciate your time in making this video!
My left ear enjoyed this video
right! haha
l
In 2009, almost 30 million tons of plastics were generated in the United States, and only around 2 million tons were recovered. $485 million worth of plastic was wasted in the United States. Recycling saves us all money and reduces our need for oil which brings down those prices as well.
My left ear sends its highest regards for your consideration! Thank you!!
So as you can see here, this is a pretty informative video.
Im for recycling. You ask yourself one question: if there was not recycling, were all this bottle will go?
I've gone on one of these tours of a plastic bottle recycling plant before. I remember that it was on a Wednesday because that evening, I went for an evening run with the Redondo Beach Nutrition Club when the club runs were on Wednesdays. As I remember that I was wearing my fit bit device during the tour and accumulated over 10000 steps, then from my evening run, I went to about 20244 steps. I wear the Flex type fit bit. A tour like this one could easily get you over 10000 steps. I remember that by the end of the tour, my Flex device vibrated to inform me that I've accumulated 10000 steps.
Something very important was missed in this video. What is done with the huge amount of water I have seen being used to wash and cool all of those plastic. Is this water treated and reused? Recycle is only an environmental solution when the balance of all processes are positive, and this must consider also the energy used and the emissions of the entire cycle including the transportation of materials.
do you have a better idea?
Yes. the rinsing water can be recycled by chemical and biological process and reused to wash the bottles. The dirt will be extracted from water in this process as biodegradable mud. The water treatment has a cost, not only economical but energetical too, so if a company recycle a product wasting a natural resource to lower his costs, it is not environmental correct.
One of the arguments used to introduce plastic in food chain in place of glass was the one way use, littering the plastic means no need to transport back the glass bottles and wash them to be refilled. The environmental problem and the need of plastic recycling changed everything.
One other alternative is the return of glass bottles to the food market, they can simply be washed (again the water must be recycled) and reused with no need of the entire transformation process we see with plastic, and glass can also be recycled. Finally in case of litter is a mineral product with the lowest impact, they can also simply be grinded and will turn into sand again, glass sand can even be mixed with construction sand.
Do you know what happens to the washed off labels of the plastic bottles, cause i can imagine that's a lot of polymere as well.
I enjoyed the video and found it very helpful. I didn't mind the music and the noise was fine. This aint Dirty Jobs.
Converting empty plastic bottles into clothing industry is amazing process. Getting clean and clear transparent PET shreds are very important here. Angelon plastic Color sorters take a hand in refining the shreds.
Very nice effort, but If it is possible it would be very nice to;
have a presentation style summary of the information on;
the energy usage per bottle in watt*hours and also in equivalent dollars
the money made through each item in the processing plant
the types of plastic and general percentages of these types in the factory input
and some of the key engineering properties of the final product and properties
that can be attained after some more post processing.
So by recycling those plastic bottles you can get again plastic bottles right?
+Erison Black you'll get new plastic bottles out of the old plastic bottles. People pay more for them.
Great video, this place is amazing
This reporter is So Cute
A very interesting video. But you need to loose the background music. The video is already noisy enough.
They did loose the background music. What they need to do is *lose* the background music that they loosed upon us.
Awesome! we could also turn that plastic back into oil!
Would love to use this video for future reference.
music is way too loud for the actual voice volume..
@SOLURSO Try watching it on a different computer. One of your speakers might not be working properly. Please let us know if this works!
I'm gonna post this on my facebook so people will recycle I know I don't that much. I wanna try to make my own recycled bottle kayak.
Thanks.Amazing video.
@SOLURSO what are you talking about lol? you can hear them talk and the music. it must be your computer
great job being done....
@SOLURSO Don't be so fussy. This video is very informative, and includes lots of useful dialog. The noise is just authentic background sounds. Get over it.
Um, recycling has improved significantly over the years, so I don't know if you are right or not. But it depends where you live. Some recycling plants are better than others. Some places have better recycling infer-structures than others.
The "waste of energy" for recycling is the human energy...not just electricty, gas, etc.
It takes time and effort for not only the recycle workers, but all the citizens to constantly spend effort to separate and recyle thier bottles worth a few penies max each. The reason why we do it is not because it "saves energy". It's because some people believe it "saves the environment" in the long run. And perhaps reduce by a bit our need for foriegn petro to make new plastics.
So how do you collect the plastic bottles? Do you provide recycle Plastic bins to communities and pick them up weekly?
How can this possibly use less energy than making new plastic bottles?
good to know that my recycled fragments are not going to waste.
Question is, what happens to all the water that was used to clean and cool the plastic bottles and flakes?
The water to wash the bottles/flakes is mostly treated (cleaned) and reused. The cooling water is a seperate closed circuit. Energy is removed from the circuit using a cooling system.
Dan C That's good to hear. It is much better to clean the water and reuse it again. But then what happens to all the dirt from the water that was cleaned?
Thanks for the relpy by the way :)
The dirt is goes to a landfill or it is burned to recover energy.
Dan C I guess there never really is a 100% efficient recycling process, like there is in nature.
Thanks for the replies
They helped a lot
They send it tothe water bottle companies and they put that water back into the bottles and then you drink it. And then you shit it out and then it ends up in your toilet where it is then sent to the sewers where it eventually makes it into the ground and then the maggots eat it and then the rats eat the maggots after that the cats eat the rats and the dogs eat the cats and then the plastic in the cats get eatin by the opossum and so on and so on god damn. Educate yoself
When she was asking why does the cap materials floats and other materials sink, I had to wonder what the hell did she learn in middle school. And the dude's answer is even better. He said the materials have some specific gravity..well.... I want to cry. Thanks god she didn't ask more question or the dude may start to say the plastics have EM field or whatever lol. Jesus... what's wrong with our education system. When I think that the dude may get more paid than me, I perhaps have to find a better job offer.
you guys are so right!!
I buy cases of water at least 5 -40 count a week we love water But there’s nowhere in Selma Alabama where I can recycle my plastic bottles can someone help with info
Great job
Yes please edit out the music. I too really wanted to here the conversation but the music was a huge distraction
Wondering if Trojan's are made from recycled material?
kinkeebeatz Better hope there's no metal in it.
Oh my word, I'm sleeping on pillow full of water bottles!
People always tell me to remove the cap and ring before recycling, I won't be doing that any more!
the message is important but the presentation can use some work...
If you don't like the music, try using head phones. In one side you'll hear the music and on the other just the conversation.
I recycle a bottle. That bottle becomes a pillow. That pillow is not recyclable. The system is good, but not perfect.
+Eric Gamliel Except the pillow is recyclable; it's not not economically practical to do so.
Eric Gamliel Sure it is,
Re-use the stuffing for something else.
She's cute!
this product is a commodity that would otherwise end up in the soil reusing it only makes sense but it is worth it
recycling is great and all. but in this case, all this energy use (both the recycling process and the original bottle manufacture process) could be done away with if we stopped buying and contributing to the manufactured demand for bottled water. in most developed countries, bottled water is a widely unnecessary product. tap water does just fine, and can be filtered at home for taste.
I think the decibel level may require ear protection.
Cool!
I hate the music it distracts me but i liked this vedio so thank you please take off the music please
"ok."
not only the music, the machine sounds are way louder than the guy speaking
Try Jacob recycling... Amazing young kid
Here at MRC Polymers we also recycle bottles. Check out our channel for another take on bottle recycling.
Safety consciousness of this company is ZERO, no safety boots, no helmets, no hand gloves, no protective clothing gear. common.
+vino123ization actually the PPE (personal protective equipment) is only required if they meet certain levels. the risk of something falling in this facility is slim and if it does fall there are hundreds to follow thus a hard hat wouldn't help, same with safety shoes. Like if sound is above 85 dB. At the end of the line for the crimp material the guy does have hearing protection if you look he has the disposable kind that work better than the ear muff ones. Beside the gloves were worn when needed ( at the sorting bit) safety is a big concern at big companies but there are rules and regs that are to be followed too. There weren't many people involved in the process which surprised me I must say.
Should they have masks on as well? Seems like that asbestos i.e. plastic flakes would be super hard on your lungs
At the end of the video she carries in the bottles she drank in the car on the way over there.
hi, is it possible for you to add subtiles or captions for deaf viewers. It will be awesome for deaf students to watch this video and would greatly benefits them. LMK
I burn them on my wood stove, they give out some awesome heat! My Neighbours drop them off for me too! So I,m helping the Planet!
Ya i put mine in the meth that i cook! Oh i also recycle them into dildos, various anal beads🍡and butt plugs.. i have a store on Amazon😁 🚮
It gives the crank a great green tint. I drink a lot of Dew btw
thats rubber dude, wait, recycled rubber idk
Interesting.
damn that girl is hot.
This is just a high school research project.
caloring bottle use here
The music is OK but should not be in the video when the machines are running. I too had a problem hearing and it's not my computer.
It's not limited to Americans though.
Money based society and ignorance exists worldwide.
Only when recycling becomes profitable does it become popular.
dem beats son
Some of it is going back into bottle production. That is closed loop. But there is over 1 billion bottles per annum not going back into PET bottle production and that is not good enough. Stuffing and insulation does not rate. That is not recycling. That is creative disposal.
Now just wait a fucking minute...hold df on now. You mean to tell me all the damn water bottles I be drinking "I Lift" had someone else mouth on it and so called re cleaned then shelfed again😨 no No NOOOOOO!!!!! Someone clarify plssss
That just exemplifies the bad attitutde people have towards recycling. In the long run it's not about profit (or shouldn't be), it's about reducing waste and creating a sustainable refuse system. Besides, if people aren't encouraged to recycle because of the cost no one will ever innovate to help drive costs down.
Also, I think after all the time and effort and explanation the genteleman in the video put forth, he should be thanked and not called the guy, this guy etc.
All she says is ok
"as you can see"
"okay"
"okay"
the music is much louder that those people speaking...
Most are.
GOOD AND INTERESTING SUBJECT OF RECYCLING SUCH BOTTLES
NICE
KEEP IT UP
LET SUCH PLANT GROW AND REDUCE POLLUTION IN THE PLANET
BYE
rk2045
that would weight 750 tonnes for 1.5 million ...bottles
Okay
@lolabelize turn your right speaker off
She seems to be having some problems understanding what the guy is talking about...
Wrong person to host.
mhmm,oookay,mhhhmmm,ooookay....
Yeah...that got pretty annoying
oh interesting
search “ angelon color sorting for PET FLAKES” on TH-cam
Incorrect. The only benefit from recycling plastic of all things is to keep the litter and carcinogens up off of our streets and freeways, and eventually, water and soil.
Otherwise, it does not account for the energy savings nor the space usage. That honor is for aluminum or glass. Skeptical about glass.
You forgot the oceans
Recycling can't be about reducing waste if it spends more resources. All it does is make people feel better about themselves, because they think they're helping. By basically lying about how great recycling is, there is no drive to look for an actual solution.
Instead of pushing a failing program and acting as if it's working, admitting that it's a broken system and coming up with a better one would be more helpful. Denial doesn't save energy and resources.
I just used this video on my website, hope you don't mind, read what i had to say about plastic bottle recycling > recycling plasticbottles org
Uh, hate to burst your bubble but overall, recycling does not save energy. It's more expensive than just dumping stuff too. The only things worth recycling is metal like aluminum. If you can't make money yourself from recycling it, it's not worth recycling.
Are those mexican workers?
"They took ar jobs!"
Please edit this video and include the valuable conversation that we are missing and take out the terrible music you include. The video itself is great and has a lot of added value, but most people will loose interest rapidly if you do not fix the audio.
Thanks, D.
youre beautiful
I just burn them on my Wood stove
Im the garbage.
we do not need the music its annoying
She has a nice body. Especially legs
the girl in the video is hot!
lame music lol
