  • Thrift Shopping at Goodwill is a great place to search for vintage and home decor. Thrift with me today in Spanaway Washington at a local GW and antique mall where I find a gorgeous vintage velvet dress that looks like something Free People would have for much more! I also score some beautiful turquoise and Mexican sterling jewelry. I love to look for vintage jewelry while I shop to find unique pieces for my website The Vintage Bombshell.
Shop my online store The Vintage Bombshell Here: www.thevintage...

Hi! The belt on the purple belt should be worn with the buckle in the back.

That's what I was going to mention, take a look at the tag in the dress that can give you an idea of when it was made

Love the purple velvet dress! The belt makes me think mid 80s. I had several similar belts that I wore in that era. The buckle goes in the back, kind of a twist on a stomacher for the Victorian revival, New Romantic style.

    • @myopinion4600

Definitely agree, the belt closes at the back.

      Agree. Totally 80’s.

    • @cherryramos8366
      @cherryramos8366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Agree on this. It looks like an ‘80s dress with the tea-length and grommets on the belt which is an elegant nod to the punk rock trend of that era. The buckle on the belt should be at the back so the grommet design is all seen at the front. I had a similar dress back in the day and the pockets were satisfyingly deep.

    • @holyhiphopper

I agree. The larger full skirts with cinched waist and wide belts were very 80s. I wore some when I worked retail in the late 80s.

    Selena, the dress is Bodacious.
In the early 60’s I was a preteen and two
party dresses with similar belts but they closed at the back. Think of the belt as jewelry for the waists. The grommets on the belt are very bodacious!

The purple belt is to be worn with the buckle turned to the back seam. I do know belts were made with that backing in the early 60's. Ask your dry cleaner for advise on restoring the belt. GORGEOUS...! Definitely worth the restoration.

And the lady told me the buckle part goes in the back. My dresses were new from a ladies shop, back in the late 60s to 70s. You look beautiful in it. Definitely your color. Take care God bless.

No you had the belt on correctly. Buckle in the back. If you have extra fabric, you could remove from the hem area, to recover buckle and replace eyelet end. I am guessing mid to late 50's to or early 60's. Dating from the metal zipper. Hostess party dress maybe? Love the jewelry. You always find such great pieces. Tacoma wall of glass is so beautiful. Is that Chihuly blown glass in the pond. It is amazing.

    Hi!
The dress looks to be from the 1930s. Zip-front dresses were absolutely a feature of 30s/40s design (though I'm not at all suggesting they're a definite indicator of pieces from the period). Pieces with studded elements (belts or otherwise) were also popular at the time, and the backing on the belt not terribly uncommon either. It's a lovely thing.
    Kind regards,
    Lily

  • @Nortongroove
    @Nortongroove 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Pretty dress! Velvets require steaming from the inside in order to avoid flattening the nape. Ironing will also flatten the nape. The belt could be repaired by finding a piece of pliable plastic sheeting, perhaps from a craft store, cut to the width of the belt and a little longer than the area in question, then using fabric glue to secure and lastly, make a new hole in the plastic for securing during wear😃

  • @lynnmaupin-simpson1215

Belt gets buckled in the back. I would findva shoe repair guy to fix your belt. Also, start checking the men's wear when looking for a "British bird shooting" jacket. A good dry cleaners can tailor it to you. Nothing beats British wool. Take care ironing or steaming your velvet. Not sure what the velvet is made of. Again , the shoe repair person and the cleaners I have cultivated over time. They have helped me over and over again. Love the dress.
Please add some of you playing music. You are so talented.
    Merry Christmas.

I love the purple velvet dress. I see this vlog is 1 year old and you asked your viewers how to repair the belt. I typically take things like that to my local small business shoe repair shop who can not only re-sole a pair of shoes or boots but also could repair a belt back like that for a inexpensive cost. I don't know if you have any small shoe repair shops near you but maybe you could Google that question and locate one near you that you weren't aware of and be able to save shoes, boots and belts life spans. It is really nice especially if the items are still in great shape except for the soles. Take care.

Agree with all the comments! Belt buckle in back. Glass sculptures amazing! Finds are amazing! I just want to tell you that you inspire me. Take that fabric, for example. Something sentenced to life on a dusty shelf. You saw it's potential and immediately put it to use in your home. With your Mama's help, or course! And it's gorgeous and fits because it's curated by YOU. It's not as if you will ever be DONE with your home. It's an ever-evolving art piece. It's like a sand castle. Keep building on. Parts will change and disappear and the tide will bring in new treasures to include! Just celebrate each one, and enjoy it in each moment, because it's fleeting. Enjoy the process of working on it. And our homes can be that too, if we want them to be. Thank you for sharing your art with us!!!

I had the most beautiful black velvet dress when i was a teen. It had Juliet sleeves with puffed shoulders and an empire waist

Sitting in the living room, a holiday evening ... I almost had a seizure when I saw that purple velvet dress ... I'm looking for something in that color for days ... I'm craving ... you can Also wear with jeans underneath, open skirt and strappy sandals ... beautiful! In fact, yesterday I found a silk velvet jacket in mauve, that's awesome and for ONE euro!!!!

I love velvet 😍it's just so luxurious. The dress is gorgeous!! With the belt, I would go and get a whole new piece of vinyl and replace the backing, then I'd get those grommets for the holes so there's no more pressure put on the material from the buckle. You can buy the little kit from any sewing outlet. Your bench looks AMAZING 😍your Mum is so clever and I think darker, richer fabrics always look better with dark wood xx

I’m guessing late 70’s early 80’s for the dress. That glass bridge is fabulous!

Love the purple velvet! Everyone is saying 60s, but the belt is giving me 80s vibes. And the buckle is definitely worn in the back. And your bench is gorgeous!

I’m thinking the same. I wonder if an 80’s seamstress used a vintage pattern to make the dress??

So glad you share your treasure hunting, especially since the Goodwill & antique stores in Texas aren't as nice as the ones up your way. Please give Millie & Toebie hugs for me. Sending much love from Texas. Just started watching this video & can't hardly wait to see what treasures you find. The red platform sandals are lovely & I am sure they will beautifully accent one of your vintage ensembles.

The dress could’ve been up cycled in the 80’s, that belt is soooo 80’s. I looooooove everything you got especially that dress

Turquoise would go well with the purple velvet dress. It was giving me Hopi or maybe Navajo velvet that the beautiful ladies wear with with their turquoise jewelry and tall moccasins. 🤗♥️🐕

You may be able to tell with the type of fabric. Earlier (60's and before) were mostly heavier weight, stiffer velvets. The 70's that shade of purple was very popular as well as the 80's. The weight of the velvet would be lighter and flowier. The belt seems 80's to me. The buckle in the back along with the embellishments was quite popular as well with dresses then. Gorgeous find. Love the color on you.

This is a tricky dress…… I have a couple dresses from the 1920s that are a light silk velvet. I also have some of the stiffer fabric you mentioned. I will have to share more details if the dress soon. It has a metal zipper and older ribbon brand tag that looks older than the 80s….. either way, I love it!

@@VintageBombshell yes you are absolutely right. Haven’t seen that color but wouldn’t that be awesome? Show a pic of the tag you mentioned. That would help us all date it. Again, fantastic dress
