Between two Bikes okay yeah when I start it up now the fuel pump sounds normal but after the normal time it primes it starts groaning but I figured that might be because of it running rich
While Jesse brings up a lot of good points, for most people that are runninng these bikes with only minor mods and daily riding, open loop works great. Especially if you aren't changing altitude much. Had a lot of issues with both of my XB12s and fugured out that thw narrow band O2 sensor go bad fast on these bikes, my bikes' would drop AFV to 81-86% at sea level and would run like crap; the only fix that made sense was to run open loop (but keep O2 sensors enabled to sense lean conditions). Running Open loop was the best and most reliable fix for me and many others in my situation. And this is a widely used practice for a lot of bikes especially folks running a power commander on other bikes, they run open loop and have racked up many miles without problems. Now I do agree that a wide band o2 would be the perfect solution for some bikes but for the money and hassle it wasn't worth it on a street bike.
Yes, it’s a good short term solution. But....if you’re destroying O2 sensors it’s probably because you have an intake leak and the engine is flooding with fuel making the bike run poorly. Better to fix the problem.
Between two Bikes I disagree, The only reason buell used this 1 o2 sensor setup was mainly to meet emissions.. and I’ve seen the o2 sensors go bad even without any intake seal leaks too. Running open loop has been done on many types of bikes and cars for decades without issue... without a wideband closed loop setup, open loop is the most common sense way to run these Buells and keep them on the road without downtime on any long rides
Hi! My name is Earl from the Philippines. I have an issue with my speed sensor and by the way, I got a 2003 Buell Xb9r. How exactly can i locate the sensor? Can you help me give some advise and do you have any idea how to fix it? Thanks bro 🙏
hey man, i really recommend getting a manual for the bike. They are really easy to follow and easiest way to locate anything on the bike www.buellmods.com/content/downloads/manuals/xbslightning/2003_lightning_manual.pdf
It is on top of the transmission. Sometimes you can pull them out and clean the metallic bits off, the sensor is magnetic, and they will work for a while...it seems like it is the same part number as a Sportster.
Interesting conversation, wish I could understand some of that 😢
Right? Hahaha
My bike started running rich and not reving high do you think this is an intake seal problem?
It could be, could also be a leaky injector, or a fuel pump dying.

MAP + intake temperature sensors?
That’s giving you zero engine feedback
damn this cleared up alot for me
Thanks for sharing this!! 👍👍
