West End ~ Holy Smokes! Thunder EVICTS & DRAGS Juvie Intruder Off Nest By The Talons! 😲 7.11.22

- Wow! This juvenile fledgling that has been hanging around the West End lately is really causing Thunder some upset! The juvie lands on the nest and is looking around the edges and then heads to the rock and sits here for a couple of hours until Thunder sees the intruder! She comes flying in with talons extended and evicts the juvie and drags it off the rock at 3:26! She releases the grip on her talons in mid- air and the juvie is seen flying off with Thunder in pursuit. Holy smokes - you do not want to mess with Thunder, her territory or her offspring!! This juvie has balls to keep coming back!! 😲😲 In regular time and slomo! Thank you for watching!

Banded on 4/24/22 ~ Male 23/D Sky; Male 24/D Ahote and Female 25/D (Kana' Kini)
Adult Male A-61 (aka Akecheta) hatched at the Los Pinos nest on Santa Cruz Island in 2016. Has silver band on left leg and orange band on right leg.
Adult Female K-91 (aka Thunder) hatched at the Two Harbors nest on Catalina Island in 2009. Has silver band on left leg.

We love all the eaglets from all nest so a bit of tugging at the heart strings on this. With that.. time to go intruder. It may be safer to move on. West End Mom isn’t tolerating you so well here anymore. Be safe on your continued journey and prosper little eaglet. 🥰

With all that water containing fish 🐟🐠🐡 the poor little one must not know what to do about getting some! But, if so, s/he will, hopefully, watch these parents and learn a thing or two. 🦅🦅
S/he certainly is strong willed and maybe the parents will be so impressed with him/her they might let him/her date one of their kids! Lol! 😺🦅🦅🦅❤️

I often wonder about the eaglets after they leave for their own journeys...as with people, there can be some tuff times, but I think this one has the potential to make it thru anything!! Thunder included! Thanks, Lady Hawk!
Hi Nanci - I have to agree with you on this one! The juvenile is aggressive and successful in its steals of fish so far and has the potential to be able to make it on its own. KK Sky and Ahote will have to be doing similar behavior when they leave the natal nest!
This is one of the best bald eagle action clips I've ever seen. This juvenile's entire affect screams mischief. I like him though. Or her. What a showdown! Thanks LH!

Man, I feel so bad for this poor Eaglet. She just wants something to eat. They need to adopt her like the other nest! LOL!! What's one more mouth to feed, lots of fish out there! I sure hope it doesn't get hurt. I wonder where her natal nest is. She should of flown off when she got a hold of the fish before!! Hope she get's something to eat soon. Lesson's being learned here for sure!

That was something to see. The juvenile landed on the nest and next thing you see is Thunder dragging the juvenile. He or she just learned a valuable lesson. Thank you.

Every eagle is someone else's precious baby. But this is how eagles survive. Their instincts force them to spread apart which is healthy for their species. These things are natural and need to happen, even if it hurts our feelings when we see it. I feel that way too. But at least know their instincts help their species survive.
I kinda feel a little sorry for this little guy/girl. This baby doesn't appear to be very old and looks like it is just looking for food. None the less, this is Thunder's nest and She is within her rights to protect it 🦅♥️🦅

It makes me wonder just what would make a Juvie leave the nest so darn early like that? There was an Eagle family I watched in SW Florida and from this past season the one Eaglet (which was a girl) had realized she could fly and took off and actually never returned to her family again except she did return once more time to see her brother sometime in April and they soared together one last time and she was gone for good. But, I kind of think that once they realize they can fly, they figure they are free to leave not realizing that maybe it’s still a little too early to leave. I understand the little intruder is banded. Have you been able to see its number and identify which nest it is from?
Unfortunately it was too far to read the letters on the band but Dr Sharpe used orange colored bands for all the juveniles banded here so I don't know which nest this one if from.

It looked like it was hoping for a feeding, didn't it? Even so, there is food for the juvie to eat around the island for those worrying. Maybe not as fresh as a mom would deliver, but plenty of food around the beaches. They eat carrion.

She probably tells the juvenile "nope, the eaglets are too young still, go and look for your life mate else where , or come back some other time"! Oh UH! Here is the thing. I always wonder how in the world do they recognize each other? I mean they are all beautiful, but they have the same feathers, same color beak, beautiful eyes, same talons , same beautiful brown and white feathers!................................???????????
No, he is too young to be interested in a mate- he is looking for food! Hoping that one of the other eaglets is careless and he can steal some scraps or maybe the whole meal! But Thunder says that they already have enough mouths to feed here, and she doesn’t want her own kids going hungry.

Yes it is banded; just hard to read the numbers, but we know Dr. Sharps banded this juvie!
