Madeline Miller Q&A | Hurricane Diane at People's Light

In May 2024, People's Light, a cultural and civic center with theatre at its core in Malvern, PA, produced Hurricane Diane by Madeleine George, in which Dionysus returns as lesbian permaculture landscaper Diane and whirls her way through a cul-de-sac of suburban New Jersey housewives.
In 2023, 4,240 unique book titles were targeted for censorship, a 92% increase from 2022, many of those targeted titles featuring LGBTQ2IA+ themes or content. So, as we looked to produce this play, People's Light became a book sanctuary, committed to stewarding endangered titles now and in the future.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller matches so beautifully with Hurricane Diane - Greek gods, queer love, adaptation of classics for today by way of creative exploration. Madeline Miller was already a fan of Hurricane Diane, we were lucky enough to chat with her about all that and more.
