An important plus about Tepoztlán not mentioned: There are no corporate businesses--no Starbucks or WalMart. It's all local and family run. But you can easily go to Cuernavaca for those. It is so refreshing not seeing those monstrous stores.
Watching from Toronto, but we have a home in Tepoztlan (Barrio San Pedro). One thing to note is that there are many more neighbourhoods than could be shown in the video. There are 8 traditional barrios, plus several outlying colonias, and several more surrounding smaller towns and villages. Each barrio has its traditions and celebrations, which have been passed down through generations. Tepoztecos are very proud of their history and traditions. There are many ways this is manifested, from the Fiestas del Barrio (each barrio has its own date or dates for these traditional celebrations), parades, Carnaval with el Brinco de los Chinelos, El Reto del Tepozteco, the Posadas, Día de Muertos, etc etc. While tourists may come to see these celebrations, it’s important to remember they are not done “for” tourists, but are rather a very traditional and authentic expression of Tepoztlan’s history and traditions. Always remember to be respectful and considerate. Too often people from Mexico City come, especially the younger crowd, just looking to party hearty and get drunk. There is quite a lot of resentment towards this kind of attitude among the townspeople. But if you come with respect and genuine interest in the local “usos y costumbres” (traditions), you will be welcomed warmly.
I was in Tepoztlan for a couple of days 34 years ago. It was a magical visit, hosted by a friend from Mexico City very familiar with the town. Then I was young, with big dreams and no money. Now I'm an old man, ready to settle down somewhere in Mexico. I've been to many places in Mexico over the years but I never returned to Tepoztlan. After watching your fabulous video, I think it's time to go back. Who knows?
Im on my way. Just got my temporary visa from the Mexican Consulate and now Im moving on to the next step to complete myTemporary Residency/Canje at an INM office in Mexico. Soon enough I'll be there in Mexico. Thanks for this video
@@kellyname5733 how hard was the process? and how much did it cost you? Did you use a lawyer? Thinking of doing the same. Let me know how you like it! Thanks.
Loved seeing this town with so much green vegetation and gorgeous flowers. The shamans and emphasis on healing was great to know. Naming food dishes without describing them was a head scratcher. Thank you from northern California.
I spent a week in Tepoztlan in April 2022 for a retreat, and just loved it. It's at the top of our list for retirement destinations in Mexico, partly for its proximity to CDMX, as my husband just adores the city! But we love rural life. While I was there we could not hike to the pyramid because of wildfire. Next time. I did do a temazcal while I was there and that was a wonderful experience.
Thank you for this tour of Tepoztlán! I had no idea how green it is or that it has a spiritual significance which is so interesting. The surrounding mountains look beautiful as well, I may have to check out this town.
We had taken Tepoztlan off our list because we thought it would be more expensive than what your video said. But now it is back on the list!! Husband is fluent in Mexican (not Spanish, there's a difference). We are excited to check it out.
Watching from Northern New Jersey. What a pretty place. I look forward to traveling slowly through MX when I retire in 3 to 5 years with the intention of finding a landing spot❤ Thank you for your informative videos.
TORONTO CANADA, I was surprised that the rents were that high on the first town. My bracket would be between 500-750. Nice to know that those rents are available. Thanks.
Hi, I am watching from Dallas Texas, I’m original from Taxco de Alarcon, it’s about 1 Hour 30 min south of tepoztlan. Love Tepoz I visit Mexico every year and wouldn’t change it for the world.
@@martharoman3138 Unfortunately it has changed much over the last few decades. It’s still my favourite place on earth, but honestly a lot of the growth has been unchecked with no overall planning to ensure the infrastructure can support all the new hotels, etc. It’s especially challenging during the dry months in this water -stressed region.
Hello from Austin Tx! I remember reading about Quetzalcoatl in like 2nd grade bilingual school in US border town. I only spoke Spanish a very long time ago😃
I was there in 2018. For a day. Cery nice. Many artists / artesans. Also quite a few Europeans. Not far from Cuernava where I spent 2 weeks 👍. I was also at Las Estacas Water Park. All great places
I was surprised to find out that the rents are lower than I expected. I am definitely interested! I lived in Cuernavaca many years ago. Saludos desde Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawai'i.
Guatemala City, moved here earlier this year from Costa Rica and now researching my next destination. I travel at tortuga base, at least one year in each country. Mexico is perhaps the only place I can qualify for temp or perhaps even permanent residency, I want make MX my base. Close to but not in CDMX and temperate climate is very appealing to me.

It certainly is good to be fluent, but working towards that is what locals recognize. One need not come here with fluency
