Brent, your growth thru adversity has been amazing to witness. Watching your body language and listening to your voice during this video is light years better than after some of the past weather events you have been thru. My family and I met you a year and a half ago when the mineral society came up to spend the day and you gave us a tour of town. We talked a little about how rugged and unforgiving the desert and eastern California mountains can be, but also how it just seems to reach out and grab onto your spirit with the beauty and love of this rugged land. You are becoming a different person right before our eyes in ways that you yourself probably never in your wildest dreams ever imagined. Please keep up the good work, stay strong in your goals, and be safe. Looking forward to coming up to help celebrate re-opening the new hotel my friend!
Oh wow, thank you so much. That is really nice to hear. I’d like to think I’ve grown in the time here. And I remember that day! Hope you all can make it up again sometime
My dad lived for many years on the only private land for thousands of acres overlooking Ridgecrest, CA. I loved it and learned some of the local history and lore in my time out there. Continuing to see water in Owens Lake is so wild and wonderful. Super proud of all you're doing, Brent. Keep it up and we'll keep supporting you.
I love seeing the bats. We have a wonderful group here in Texas, Bat World Sanctuary, whose mission is to educate people about bats and to care for those bats that are rescued and cannot be released back into the wild.
Beth, I need to put out flystrips, but am afraid of ensnaring bats (its happened once and animal control insisted on putting him down despite no contact). Im rabies vaccinated, but still crazy careful...but whats the best humane way to unstick a bat from flypaper, just in case?
You need to talk with Miller Towing in Lone Pine about fitting your truck with "Trackor Tread " replacements, he has them for work in the Winter months.

Hey Brent, regarding the water collection, here in Europe in the Alps they have collection basins. Essentially a big ‘pool’ dug in the ground and lined with a certain fabric which can hold many cubic feet/meters of water. Maybe such a system could be added to the sum of system in regard to collection and storing large amounts of water.
There‘s no way this is suitable for collecting water! Storing water like that will make it disappear even quicker, did you not realize he lives on the hills of the hottest place on earth!?😂

Look up rainwater tanks in Australia. We are the driest continent. In rural areas almost every house has huge rainwater tanks to collect rain off roofs.
I drove past you last week and wondered how you were doing up there. Saw the "town closed" sign and couldn't imagine what you were dealing with up there. You have to really love a place to manage living like that and I enjoy seeing your love for Cerro Gordo.

I pre-ordered the book. Thanks Brent. My Dad was a geologist and retired from the USGS. As a kid, I spent many summers with him working the NW quadrant of Wyoming. So you will understand how I appreciate what you have accomplished.
That is awesome! Thank you. He may enjoy the "Merriam" report from the 1960s from the USGS. It's a 60 page report about the geology at Cerro Gordo. If you search for it, it's free online.
What incredible history! can you imagine the relief of those families when their love ones were rescued? In Australia we have an Opal mining town called Coober Pedy some of the folk who live there have long lived and made their homes underground to escape the heat using old mines for their businesses, homes and even hotel conversions. What a special place you have and looking closer at the wild life is so unique in those areas too. And God bless all that snow!! god gave you some water, no fighting required.
20 years ago I would be the 1st one down to the 900ft level! However as I get older I find myself having more panic attacks just thinking about it and all the "what if's?"! ✌🐢

My husband and I have been watching your channel since you started ! It has been so exciting to see what you have accomplished over the years ! I cannot wait to see how much water you can save from the snow ! Sounds like you have a few great ideas to get water ! We were so sad for you when the hotel was destroyed, so it is so exciting to see it come back to life ! Looks like it will be a great year !!
I seem to recall when we use to go hiking up there about 40 years ago there were some natural springs by mine number 6, 19, and 23. It was refreshing to soak in them after a long hike.
Brent you are the most amazing adventurous person I have viewed on U tube, and a great story teller, stay safe up there, the world needs more people like you.
The metal roofing on the hoist barn could quite possibly contain lead, so I would be very hesitant to capture the water for any drinking purposes. I do think collecting rainwater is smart, especially for the area, but choose your run-off point wisely!
He could construct a concrete slab cistern above the town, mainly a spot with heavy snow then run piping down hill. Who knows he could eventually dump snow right into it.
Very cool seeing progress on the hotel. A major upfront cost but massive production gain is paving Cerro Gordo rd. There are ways to manage the rainfall as well as snow accumulation. It may appear impossible but it only helps the town's rebirth. Maintenance will have its difficulties but you will generate more productivity and access for visitors.
It's wild how small a structure looks with no walls up. The American looked so small until it was closed up. Now It looks really big. Love seeing it come back!
After watching this episode I went and pre-ordered a signed copy of your book, I can't wait to read it and put it on the mantle! I'm always excited when I see a new upload because unlike a lot of social media I know this will be original and upbeat with problem solving, not just more biased news nonsense. Great episode
Thanks for allowing me to live vicariously through your shared experiences. And your words on PURPOSE are much appreciated. Someone needs to hear that. I know I did. 👍🏾👊🏾🙏🏾 I hope that I can see the town for myself someday. 🙂
I am amazed at what you have done thru true grit and determination. I remember spending a week in Death Valley as a a child and made wonderful memories. My Uncle was also the owner of two gold mines in Arizona so I remember hearing him speak about his mines. Your stories about the old miners and those in the town are so interesting. I’m looking forward to getting your book.
Brent, I get so excited when I see that you’ve posted a new video. I’ve been following your channel and GTL almost since the start. For half an hour I just disappeared into your world and every time I’m always blown away by your drive, knowledge, curiosity to learn, sense of adventure and a true desire to thrive. I was very moved by your last words regarding drive, the fact that it’s better to at least try and to learn from any of our failures. It was very prophetic. You inspire me and for that I am truly grateful. Love from the UK my friend.

Lost Mines collab!!! Admittedly English (I'm pretty sure) but STILL would be badass. If you're happy to host folks look up 'Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places', 'TVR Exploring', 'Exploring Abandoned Mines', 'Lost Mines' and 'Mines of the West' here on TH-cam. My grandpa was a geophysicist for the (USA) Department of the Interior, USGS Unites States Geological Survey, and the now-abolished Bureau of Mines. Took me to the now off-limits Soudan Mine in northern Minnesota when I was a little kid and was honestly one of the craziest things I've ever seen. I think it's an underground laboratory/research center of some sort now. He also went to Antarctica twice with the US Navy back during the Cold War. Would LOVE to see overseas mining comparisons! What they looked for, found, what's left etc.
Bless you Brett. I've really enjoyed being a spectator to your whole journey. I hope you accomplish what you want to accomplish. Sending you all the positive waves
Your speech at the end was awesome, it really meant a lot to me. I had a very bad time in college and dropped out to spend several years in a slump doing nothing. In 2022 I finally started taking some small steps, and this year it may be possible for me to actually move out to live by myself, and be a part of the world on my terms doing things I find joy in doing
A snow chute, like a crusher feed chute but for snow that melts and goes into the water tank. You can then use a flotation launder plug to blog off in the summer to save rats etc falling in. Trap door at the side to hose out the chute of dust or just have a dust cover in those months. I could even built one out of timber and line with linatex. Once the main tank is full you could have a directional hose going to other smaller tanks.

Brent is definitely more polished in his narrating these videos. If he gets tired of ghost town living he might have a new career in narrating videos.
Thank you! I enjoy the history around Ridgecrest too. Owen’s Lake is definitely looking good these days
I have to admit. I don’t think I would have enough courage to be down that deep by myself. Much respect to you.
I love seeing the bats. We have a wonderful group here in Texas, Bat World Sanctuary, whose mission is to educate people about bats and to care for those bats that are rescued and cannot be released back into the wild.
i have helped many bats in my life, will always help!!!!🥰
That's awesome! Mike was a great source of information
I loved this segment 😁
Beth, I need to put out flystrips, but am afraid of ensnaring bats (its happened once and animal control insisted on putting him down despite no contact).
Im rabies vaccinated, but still crazy careful...but whats the best humane way to unstick a bat from flypaper, just in case?

Brent, you are an inspiration to many of us! I have always appreciated how genuine you are and open yourself up to the hundreds of thousands of folks you don't even know. Thanks for being you and sharing your journey!
Thank you for the support and checking out the videos!

He's alone and makes it seem fun lol u must feel inspired. I can do this to lmfao lol ogm please no
I was so glad to see there are at least 3 of you guys up there in the snow, with no power
I really appreciate your statement, “ I don’t like to give up.” It reminded me why I’m still here and the guys in my company got to go home. Looking forward to the audiobook.
💪 thank you! I feel some good things happen on the other end of not giving up. Thanks for the support with the audiobook!
Don't ever give up and don't ever get old! I tried to bring stuff to the table also but it ain't nothing like this.. This man right here got something special going on! I have a channel also but it's not special I plan to go meet Brent one day.. And I guarantee it's going to be on my channel!

@@tomasviane3844 haha man I wish I had that problem 🤪 I'm over here struggling
I just realized your situation reminds me of the movie Snowball express. How the main character buys an abandoned ski resort and ends up building it back up. It's very interesting to watch your journey and I wish you as much luck as they had in the movie!
I have never seen that but now I want to!
The bat info was some of the coolest info off the channel so far!!!
Mike is a great researcher and teacher!
It surprises me that anyone would scoff or sneer at what you do. I think it's outstanding! With a wife and four kids, the choice of an unconventional existence wasn't practical for us despite it being incredibly compelling. OTOH, the kids turned out to be the best thing ever. I love and admire them more than I can say.
Seeing the snow reminds me of your first visit . I’ve followed your journey since then never knowing what you will uncover or what your next challenge will be . I only wish I had the ability to support you in person but being in the uk makes meeting you and touching the town in person some what a dream or bucket list for the future . Well done Brent I have never stopped watching and never believed you will fail a signal challenge the town throws at you. Good luck .
Thank you very much! It's definitely been a journey with some twists and turns. I appreciate the support and kind words!
Recording the audiobook in the mine is a great idea! You're making history like others make cookies.
People make cookies in ghost towns?
Hey Brent, regarding the water collection, here in Europe in the Alps they have collection basins.
Essentially a big ‘pool’ dug in the ground and lined with a certain fabric which can hold many cubic feet/meters of water.
Maybe such a system could be added to the sum of system in regard to collection and storing large amounts of water.
There‘s no way this is suitable for collecting water! Storing water like that will make it disappear even quicker, did you not realize he lives on the hills of the hottest place on earth!?😂
@@Elektrotechniker You seem to have zero grasp on how mountains work 😅
Lol they do this is usa also. We dig holes to hold water everywhere.
Best video I've seen all weekend regarding content (which I always know that will be tops), videography, narration, quality, subject matter, invention, science, gemology, drone cinematography....the list goes on. Never should have any doubt about your purpose, you have plenty. May 2024 continue to be what you imagine it there and for yourself.
Thank you so much! That is really nice to read. A lot goes into each video and I appreciate you noticing!
Look up rainwater tanks in Australia. We are the driest continent. In rural areas almost every house has huge rainwater tanks to collect rain off roofs.
The snow looks awesome up there 😎
it's stunning!
Love this update. When we lose purpose, we lose life.
I drove past you last week and wondered how you were doing up there. Saw the "town closed" sign and couldn't imagine what you were dealing with up there.
You have to really love a place to manage living like that and I enjoy seeing your love for Cerro Gordo.
The mountains in the snow are stunning!!!
I like the idea of putting stucco around your room and a sealed door so that you could have a dust free room with some kind of flooring. Your an animal
theres nothing wrong with doing what you love to do in your case your ghost town your love and compassion of the mine you share with us millions of people watching sharing a miners life weve never seen before you are a good narrator your attitude is such that we cant stop watching and want more thanks for bringin us cerro gordo
Ooh it looks so pretty in the snow
To me it looks like red dead redemption 2 the abandon cold mining town
@@Mr.idioticman yeahh ah that reminds me i need to get back to that game
Definitely! A beautiful time of year
What incredible history! can you imagine the relief of those families when their love ones were rescued? In Australia we have an Opal mining town called Coober Pedy some of the folk who live there have long lived and made their homes underground to escape the heat using old mines for their businesses, homes and even hotel conversions. What a special place you have and looking closer at the wild life is so unique in those areas too. And God bless all that snow!! god gave you some water, no fighting required.
Interesting! I'll have to look into that place. Thank you!
The Coober Pedy area isnt exposed to many earthquakes, though....a hefty quake in the area would be catastrophic for Cerro Gordo....
20 years ago I would be the 1st one down to the 900ft level! However as I get older I find myself having more panic attacks just thinking about it and all the "what if's?"! ✌🐢
scratch that off my bucket list...TOO isolated.
Should be the other way around who wants to be old? Nows the time to take risks
Have you thought about getting a snow mobile? I have watched your channel from the start, you have come a long way. You should be proud of yourself. You are blessed to live your dream.
It's amazing how much you have learned from living there for the past 3 years. Don't stop learning.
I never thought that Owens Lake would have water in it again. Very cool view from your vantage point. Great stuff. Thanks
That was a nice snippet about the fire and the miners. Looking forward to reading my copy.
It's amazing to see the progress you've made at Cerro Gordo. Your dedication and hard work are truly inspiring. Keep pushing forward!
Thank you!! Same to you, keep pushing!
I hope to god you are going to advertise the fact the books audio was recorded in the mine! That’s so cool.
Thanks! It felt like a really cool touch to do.
Geez Brent be careful on those roads covered with snow when driving, very dangerous drop and solid stone all the way down dude, amazing stories, the towns really coming along, the hotel looks amazing, love following your journey, you are making so much progress and restoring history, you are living the american dream, i wish you success.
Mike is spot on saying he doesn't trust computers! When the power goes out we lose everything.
Love what you do Brett we are so lucky you have such a passion for documenting and sharing your journey.
I love seeing your dream evolve with each new video! Rooting for you and Cerro Gordo, I hope to see it one day with my own eyes. I look forward to the audio book and hard back book. Keep up the amazing pioneering spirit. Sending prayers and love from the Midwest!!! 🤠🌻
Thank you so much! I very much appreciate that
Once you finally make it to cerro gordo you'll love it , luckily I'm only 4 hrs away & I went there I. 2022 for 2 days & nites it was Awsome, I love the view . Met Brent briefly & nothing but great energy.
@@davestevens4263 Awesome! That sounds like quite the pilgrimage then. Hopefully I will be able to see it.
Thank you both for watching! I really appreciate that!
I seem to recall when we use to go hiking up there about 40 years ago there were some natural springs by mine number 6, 19, and 23. It was refreshing to soak in them after a long hike.
WOW that first shot with the hotel. Makes me still cry watching the fire one.
I just love the beauty of the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is like the cherry on top of these videos for me. I appreciate it so much.
Brent you are the most amazing adventurous person I have viewed on U tube, and a great story teller, stay safe up there, the world needs more people like you.
🙏🙏 thank you so much!
Bats are a major asset. Installed bat house yrs ago, yet to be occupied by anything but wasps.
@@Hervert69 Yeah I'm envious. :D)
Blessed my dude
Brent, you should do some thing for the floor in the suite area so it isn't so dusty - pine shavings, pea gravel, outdoor carpet are a few options.
Dude, mad respect for this!
The metal roofing on the hoist barn could quite possibly contain lead, so I would be very hesitant to capture the water for any drinking purposes. I do think collecting rainwater is smart, especially for the area, but choose your run-off point wisely!
It's crazy to think that there could even be a law against collecting rainwater. That blew my mind.
He could construct a concrete slab cistern above the town, mainly a spot with heavy snow then run piping down hill. Who knows he could eventually dump snow right into it.
We need to get someone to donate this man a snow cat!! Would be an absolute God send to have up there to clear roads and the town!
The wealthy do not need donations... Read up on how this town was purchased .
Or at least a snowmobile.
Brent, your dream project is inspiring so many to keep going on their own crazy dreams.. this is what TH-cam is made for! Keep GOING!!
Love your videos about restoring\saving Cerro Gordo. All efforts, projects, failures that you turn into success. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for checking out the videos!
It's wild how small a structure looks with no walls up. The American looked so small until it was closed up. Now It looks really big. Love seeing it come back!
Get the rail system up and running. also UV Lighting if the rocks glow
After watching this episode I went and pre-ordered a signed copy of your book, I can't wait to read it and put it on the mantle! I'm always excited when I see a new upload because unlike a lot of social media I know this will be original and upbeat with problem solving, not just more biased news nonsense. Great episode
Oh yeah, and a good generator hooked up to the house..👍
Solar. Generator needs costly fuel. That hotel roof ought to be all panels, collecting rain water too.
The water off the solar panels will not have the zinc contamination. Just dust.
I am happy that you are rebuilding everything there. I love the Suite in the mine! I cannot wait to see you put that bar into place!!
Thank you! We’ve got a lot of things happening. Can’t wait for the bar to be in place either! Hopefully all done this year
Brent, I get so excited when I see that you’ve posted a new video.
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that note and kind words 🙌
Hello
Just a thought in the mine
I believe you need fire Extinguishers At all levels especially the bottom where you're have your room and of course at the top
Hope this helps
Thank you so much for saving Cerro Gordo!
So much going on in this video. Action packed content!
I’m glad to see you persevere in Cerritos Gordo.
I hope that you find people to function as medics 24/7/365. I also hope that you have a variety of options for power, especially for warmth.
Why does he need "MEDICS" 24/7/365?😂😂
Any special reason you're calling it Cerritos and not Cerro which is its actual name? Inside joke ? To call it Cerritos is to say little Cerro, I get that but??? The point is? Curious
Love the Bats...been a fan since i was a child wish i could visit there ...love the history
You should come visit Wales and do a special in our mines and caves. Happy to host you. Also we had horses down our mines so it's a new thing for you
Lost Mines collab!!!
Sounds good
That would be a cool video.
I have messaged Brent about it so let's hope for it
What an amazing journey you're on - thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Your fortitude and perseverance is astounding. Thank you for all that you do to share your adventures with us who sit at home in our warm beds.
thank you Brent for giving 2024 a new meaning for me. Your inspirational talks at the end of your videos really help.
A plow and snowmobile would be good investment. Look into homemade setups. They have hitch mounted even I know money doesn't grow on trees
I am impressed with your perseverance in all you do including willing that Tundra up the snowy hill. Good job guy. Love your channels.
Thank you very much!
Can't wait to see all your new adventures!

Watching your channel puts me in the right frame of mind. Sometimes the chatter of the people who like to criticize a man gets to him. It’s nice to take a breath, hear it from someone else who is in the arena. Thanks for keeping it positive. I needed it today.
