Agreed. They shouldn't get special treatment for any reason. It's the NFL - there needs to be hitting and tackling. If the QB doesn't like that, then he should stay behind the line and pass it or hand it off instead
They are, mahomes just like to bait flags on the stepping out of bounds, and as far as “fake sliding”, Pickett made a small move, just like when a player jukes, and late sliding, I’ve never seen a “late slide” and Trevor Lawrence didn’t even late slide on this
One of the things I've noticed about Mahomes is how he'll approach the sideline as if he's going to scamper out of bounds, and when the defender slows up to avoid the inevitable flag, he scoots up the sideline for more easy yards. I guess you could call that clever, but in a different era, he would have paid dearly for his cuteness ... 15 yards be damned.
Brady calling out QBs for being shady is peak comedy. All of these BS rules that treat QBs as untouchable are mostly a result of his whining and crying
@@jvatExactly, when Brady slid he slid. I don't blame players like Mahomes for faking the slide, I blame the league for not balancing the rules. If you're going to make the QB a super-protected position you shouldn't build in exploits for them as well.
And? You make hits with your arms and shoulders. This is football. There's hitting. If you don't like it, there's always WNBA, volleyball or Taylor Swift music videos for you to watch.
People arm tackle and push with their elbow/forearm all the time. Just say you don't watch football. If that was a hit on a WR/RB yall same people winning about it would say good hit. Don't act like a RB if you don't want to be hit like one. If QBs want protection they need to stay in the pocket. On e you're out you're a ball carrier on your feet with the ability to go down at any time. Don't want hit on a football field? Don't be the one carrying the fucking ball down the field. Stupid.
These QB protections should only happen in the pocket. If a QB wants to run the ball, he should be considered fair game like a RB or a WR. Advance the ball at your own risk.
That is already how it is, once a QB is past the line of scrimmage they no longer have all the QB protections which is WHY they usually slide to avoid being tackled & potentially injured. Also, any player can slide to surrender. The problem is that defensive players intentionally headshot QBs that are sliding when they are technically already down. The best way to deter dirty plays is to increase the penalty for intentional acts like this one on Trevor.
Tell us you never played football without telling us you never played football😂 He HAD to hit him to prevent the first down. Shair is dirty, but not this one. This one was literally football 101 You clearly dont understand sports or reaction time 😂
@@firewfire Umm ... I played football, and I agree, Lawrence deserved the hit for trying to take advantage of the protection the NFL give QBs. The NFL sucks anyway. You clearly never played football if you can watch that garbage, may as well be a two-hand touch league.
Big hits are part of the game but actualy he was trying to prevent the TL from getting the first down just as TL was trying to get it. I'm for player safety but QB's are abusing their entitlement. Get down sooner or get blown up.
So that's illegal just because the guy plays a certain position? If you don't want treated like a running back, don't play like one. Always hated the protect the QB shit Brady started while he was in league, and this is the result of letting it get out of hand. If that's a WR or RB on same exact hit, I guarantee you and all the others bitching about the hit are screaming "what a tough football hit".
@@Musicdudeyoutub Josh Allen absolutely did not fake a slide against the Steelers. Allen stutter stepped. He froze the defenders and then ran by them, because they didn't know whether he was going to go left or right. In no way did he make any kind of move indicating he was going to slide. He froze the defenders with a stutter step and then blew by them. All he did was a normal running back move.
That guy doesn’t have a point, but you’re also not telling the truth. Fake sliding is banned now, but they did not call that play back. It stood as a touchdown.
While I agree that a lot of rules meant to "protect QBs" are dumb, exploitable, and make the game of football worse, the hit on Lawrence is not really the example I would lead with; that play was Burfict levels of dirty.
The hit was a bit off but not dirty.. i doubt it was intentionally to hurt him..Brady and other QBs speaking up for the defense says it all... fans are getting soft... and QBs know they are so protected they take advantage of this crap...Then cry when they get hurt... defenses are screwed either way... people want the defense to stop build them a road and allow them to go by.. The rules literally benefit the QBs so much they can exploit it both ways.. slide late get free yards with a penalty or run knowing you are protected up the ass and your getting the yardage you need cause the defense doesn't want to get called dirty for stopping a QB. NFL needs to stop Protectiing QBs this much, it's ridiculous..
TL's knee is down at 44.5 yd line, when Azeez is waiting at the 41 yd line- waiting, not running forward, not bang-bang play, not whipping around trying to see what's happening, just waiting, the QB is sliding, knee is down, then Azeez launches and his helmet ends up passing over where the ball would be down. That's a defender who can't control himself, evident in how he's acted ever since.
@@alienatedbean12it was definitely intentional. He didn't lunge into him until after he started his slide, and he has a pattern of late/dirty hits. That was his 5th this season
No fake slides and no pulling a Mahomes or faking out of bounds, doing either results in the play blown dead and a penalty. Defensive players should have a half yard leniency out of bounds to hit quarterbacks within reason.
@@Maintenance_Markyeah - spot of foul penalty for fake slide of 5 yards. That would stop the fake slide being useful just past the line to gain. Not sure for running down the sideline because any player can do that and a late hit out of bounds is a penalty anyway on any player, not just QBs
This! A million times, this. If players get fined, penalized, and suspended for hitting quarterbacks “as they slide” or “as they go out of bounds,” then quarterbacks should be penalized, fined, or suspended for faking the slide or going out of bounds.
While I agree in principle I don't think people are thinking this through. One of the biggest complaints by ALL fans is officiating, and adding any judgement call to the rulebook is going to make it that much worse.
I've been saying to my friends for years, if a player makes a motion that can be interpreted as a slide, they should be considered down at that point. With that added to the slide rule, there is no more possibility for a "fake slide". If you fake a slide you are down, now the defenders know that they can not hit you and you can't just continue your run for extra yards. Problem solved. Also, the hit on TLaw wasn't about hitting him after he slid, it was about how DIRTY the hit was, leading with the elbow to the helmet.
If a QB begins to start a slide, it is a slide. The rule on a slide is that the ball is down where the player started the slide at any rate. This will stop a Kenny Pickett-like play in the future and allow defenders confidence. Also, create more leeway for a defender. Unless it is clear that a player will or has stepped out of bounds before the motion for the hit is made, it should not be counted as a penalty.
For slides, the rule should be that the moment the QB starts a slide, or even fakes one, the play is over. For out of bounds, they should have to be at least a yard past the sideline, or they’re still fair game.
There already is a rule. The play is over as soon as the QB starts to slide. That's where they mark the ball and at that point you can't hit him. You literally can't fake slide because as soon as you make that first movement towards sliding the play is supposed to be over. The league just isn't enforcing it because the NFL is a joke. As for the out of bounds stuff, that shit is just ridiculous. Why give the QBs any protective equipment if you can't hit them anyway?
@@easportssucks4347 Nobody should be "hitting" anyone out of bounds, but contact resulting from a reasonable play that started in bounds shouldn't notmally be penalized. In other words, if the contact results from a move that started when you were a fair target, it should be allowed provided there's no positive evidence of intent to hurt or intent to hit a player who gave himself up. In the end it will always have to be a judgement call by the refs but the instructions to the refs should be to be more lenient on the defense than they are now.
@@Triadicarp Did you know that a 250# world class athlete NFL player can cover 5 yards in 0.0001 of a second in full stride? And physics says it’s impossible for him to stop on a dime. Also, you have the problem of the brain wanting to stop but the electrical signals traveling to the muscles takes a few milliseconds equivalent to approximately 4.99 yards of distance in full stride
@@TriadicarpYou can try it yourself. Mark about 5 yards from a brick wall and then start running towards the wall at 20 mph (the typical top end speed of an angry NFL defensive back) and then begin your stopping effort at the 5 yard mark. No cheating, you have to run around 20 mph. Let me know how that turns out
I believe the rule states that the play is dead and the ball spotted where the QB starts a slide. Some of your examples were of QBs starting a “fake” slide. You have to start a slide whether it is fake or an actual slide. Some of the examples included a fake slide and then a slide, two slides. The play should be dead when the QB starts feigning a slide. And I agree with some of the other comments that once last scrimmage, the QB is a runner. This is very important and mostly to put this in the QBs head. They will likely be more inclined to protect themselves, which is what the NFL really desires. Nice job, good topic.
Such a coward take trying to throw Mahomes under the bus here. Times he has beem hit outside and getting a flag had been cleat fouls and the footage from the Panthers game, he juked defender 3 feet from the sideline.
There is nothing wrong with them running along the sidelines and then stepping out at the last moment, running backs and receivers do this as well. They do need to make sliding beyond the line of scrimmage for a quarterback illegal though. Problem solved.
Easiest fix is to simply ban slides. I think QBs get hurt more often when they do slide because of plays like these. Remember Teddy Bridgewater and Joe Flacco. QBs are already protected enough; they should be tackled just like every other player
@@Jasper118 Yeah we know that lol that's not new. The point is that QBS most often are not the biggest and strongest players on the field, the other positions you mentioned are usually better suited to handle those types of hits compared to QBs. If you disallow QBs from sliding, you'll see less of these types of hits since they won't have rules or protections to take advantage of.
@ that’s utter nonsense. Go watch games from the old league and tell me how many hits the QBs took. Taking away slides would destroy some of these QBs and the massive amount of money they bring in and cost a club. All players are allowed to give themselves up. It’s very rare to see a player fake any of these. including the plays in this video where maybe all but 1 were normal plays. No one is faking a slide in the NFL on a frequent basis.
@@Jasper118 You aren't making a fair comparison though. Do what you said and look at the old league (old for a reason) and you'll see that the QBs didn't have the same protections then (even in the pocket) as they do now. I'm not saying I agree with the idea of making that kind of change though. It's football, contact is part of the sport and every player knows that of course. Taking away some of the excitement of the game isn't the best option, but what can you do if you need to protect players while still making the game fun for fans? Personally, I don't think it's up for the league to decide. At the end of the day, these QBs are getting coached on doing this, they need to be taught how to protect themselves better. Fake slides are rare, but they happen; we can't keep penalizing the defense just because the QB is trying to be cute on the field lol
@ so for every few hundred normal qb slides there might be a fake slide sprinkled in there so we should make rules and change the game even more because if that? What better way to protect your self then literally giving your self up on the play to avoid a hit? If a QB fakes a slide then gets plastered there will be no flag on the play so I don’t understand what you mean by your last sentence.
Those Mahomes run are completely legitimate we see receivers and RBs do that every week. A defender can easily usher him out of bounds and not get a penalty. The Williams run also was not a fake, he was trying to juke the guy and wasn’t even really close to the boundary
Defenses need to be told to follow all the rules but still fully engage in ALL situations. QBs will learn to stop being cute. You can still hit quarterback while keeping the rules and keeping each other safe.
You should have mentioned that Lawrence is going on IR due to a shoulder injury he will undergo surgery for. It's not because of the concussion. The team decided that with the recovery time from the concussion AND the fact he's been playing with a shoulder injury AND the fact that their season is lost, they might as well put him on IR and let him get the surgery and heal for next year. If they were in the playoff hunt, he's more likely not on IR and back on the field when he's out of the concussion protocol. Also, we don't talk about the terrible impact the field has on the play. While it was a big hit, it's the smashing against the field which is so jarring. There is nowhere for his head to go. By sliding, it seems like it might put the QB at more risk of getting knocked back into the turf. QBs either need to give up much, much earlier so defenders are able to pull up and not hit or they all become runners after they cross the line of scrimmage. It is one thing when you have QBs from the 1990's who rarely ran except when the pocket broke down. These days, we have designed plays for QBs to run. Some teams have it as a significant portion of their offense. As such, it is no longer a protection in a few cases, it's a protected runner, who gains as much as he can and then slides.
Ya...get rid of the slide. Make it down by contact like it's always been. You get out of the pocket and you become a runner with no protections of a QB while in the pocket. Same with going out of bounds. Treat them as runners.
Players have always been able tog I’ve them selves up. All players on the field are allowed to slide this has nothing to do with being a QB. As soon as the QB is outside the pocket he is considered a runner
Mean Joe Green used to say that when rushing the passer, he would visualize the QB's head as a grape, and his goal was to "pluck the grape". Of course this was tongue in cheek, but it wasn't far from the truth. I'm in favor of penalizing late hits against a player who is already down or out of bounds, but this hook slide nonsense is absurd. If they don't want to get hit, they should take up tennis.
Just to be clear, the hit against Lawrence was dirty and unacceptable. The defender should be suspended for the season, with or without the hook slide rule.
The overprotection of quarterbacks started when most qb’s in the league were primarily pocket passers and now almost every qb can “run” and 100% mahomes is seriously abusing these rules more than any other player. It’s already hard enough for defenders these days as it is so the NFL needs to fix this but let’s be honest they won’t.
What Mahomes does seems very cheap to me. The way he'll act like he's going out of bounds and the defender pulls up to avoid getting a penalty and then Mahomes will cut it back and run for another 20 yards. I don't think anyone is in the same stratosphere as Mahomes when it comes to this. The Pickett play would have been, but that as in college.
Please take your hater glasses off for 5 seconds and watch the plays. The Carolina run he didn’t even flinch like he was going out of bounds. Hit the outside and went up the sideline like nfl player is taught to do… the 49rs one he was following blockers. The defender took a bad angle and over ran the play trying to get around the blocker Kareem Hunt… you don’t have to take my word for any of this… you can just watch the play.. up to you. What ever makes you happy I guess.
correction: mahomes is too good at fooling the defense we need to nerf it🤣🤣🤣 all you have to do is push him out of bounds. don’t come in like a heat seeking missle, push him out or wrap him up. simple as that non of this is a problem
Or safely get to the ground. I've been saying this since Trent Green got hit in the early 2000. It puts the qb in a vulnerable position. If they do get hit, they're more than likely going to get seriously hurt.
Isn't Tom Brady the reason why QBs can barely be touched? I agree with him. There are all these safety restrictions that defensive players have to abide by, but there isn't an equal amount for offense. I've always thought the same thing Brady asked. Why is it always on the defense? Why does the DEFENSE have to look out for the safety of the opposing QB and then suffer consequences as a result? Don't get me wrong, this hit on Trevor Lawrence was not right, but he did start sliding a little late, (I thought it was anyway). A lot of times, these defensive player are running full speed. They can't just hit the breaks and stop. Sh*t is gonna happen. But it shouldn't be all on the defense to ensure the safety of any offensive player, within reason, I still wanna see hits but, legitimate hits that result in loss of yards, not penalties or serious injuries.
I think the forearm to the face was deserving of a flag. Regarding QBs, all WRs/RBs cross the line of scrimmage expecting to be hit/tackled. They don't slide.
I can agree that the hit on Trevor Lawrence was far too excessive but also say that QBs really do bait some hits by running, seeing the defender is lining up to tackle and beginning their approach, just for the QB to drop and slide at the last moment and the defenders then hits them high. it might not even be intentional on their part, but you can either be able to hit and tackle the QB or make it 2 hand touch with them at this point.
Let’s say Lawrence didn’t slide then Shaair would have ended up put a forearm into his shin, which is not a typical tackle. So it’s pretty clear with how low Shaair was at the point of contact he intentionally was trying to hit a sliding player. All players are allowed to give them selves up by a slide, knee, going out of bounds, or other dive it is not specific to QBs
The NFL... Needs to change the rules, because some of the players are abusing the rules via fake slides, or illegally hitting people and causing concussions, or tackling a player wrong, and mangling their legs. And apparently there are some NFL fans who like seeing players collide with players? Kind of like watching a vehicle accident, minus the gore?
Kobe tells a guy, im gonna hack u and the ref aint gonna do nothing about it. Kobe proceeds to hack, no call, guy gets mad. The superstars know the game within the game. Is it fair? No. Is life fair? No. Play the hand ur dealt
It’s not controversial for Pickett. Both defenders literally froze feet away. That’s on them not the QB. A normal defender would be way closer and be prepped to stop him if he faked. They weren’t
15 yard penalty from original line of scrimmage for fake slide. QB commits to sideline and runs upfield same penalty. When someone lays out Malhomes you will have a new rule. Or if the Jags weren't 2 and 9..
QB is the money for the NFL, they will always be treated special. It ruins the integrity of the game. But for fun, let’s explore. Given the number of “late hits”, perhaps, the refs stop calling late hits when the slide starts within 5 yards of the defender. Add a penalty on the offensive player if the slide starts within 3 yards. I wonder how many QB will run under those conditions. I wonder how safe these slides actually are. It seems more players being concussed during slides than just running to be tackled.
Take the slide completely out of the game. If QBs want to run then they must risk getting drilled. The NFL wants to have it both ways. They want Lamar Jackson style running QBs but they also want QBs protected. This creates a gigantic grey area.
To clarify to everyone advocating that QBs become “normal runners” after a certain point (out of the pocket, beyond LOS, etc): The rules that exist now aren’t there because the QBs “don’t want to get hit”, it’s that THE NFL doesn’t want them to get hurt because nobody wants to watch teams’ backup QBs. Nobody outside of Buffalo is watching the Bills if Allen is hurt, and nobody is watching the Bengals without Burrow (probably not even in Cincinnati). Since the rules aren’t there to protect the QB because “the qb wants it”, but instead to protect ratings, there isn’t any circumstance where THE NFL wants QBs to be fair game for a devastating hit, regardless of what they are doing.
@ I agree entirely. I don’t want to see people getting hurt on the field, or blowing their brains out 25 years later due to cte. I like the athleticism of the league now. It’s more fun for me than the old game.
Your take is completely foolish. The run you show of Mahomes running down the side line against the panthers was not him taking advantage of the rules. He started to make his cut up field around the numbes on the field. Know what you are talking about because your statement is laughable. In the nfl if the QB starts to slide or fakes it the play is dead right there.
To be fair Lawerance was trying to get the first down before he went into the slide. Justin Fields almost cost the Steelers a game by sliding too early. The problem here is the hit will force the league to make even more rules.
"Exploitation rules" on top of player safety rules would be difficult to govern imo. They're more subjective than "2 feet in", or even "forcible contact to the head". I do think Trevor Lawrence attempted to get more yardage than he should've and forgot he was playing a violent contact sport. They need to be reminded that while the rules are there to protect them, they carry part of the responsibility for their own safety during the game. And if it is clear that a defender intentionally targets a QB like this, then the player should be suspended for a certain period without pay. For "fake running out of bounds": I could see this becoming a reviewable play, either by challenge or by the officiating crew. If it is determined that a quarterback shows intent to run out of bounds (or give themselves up in any way), and then they continue on, then penalize the offense from original line of scrimmage and add a loss of down (like intentional grounding rule).
What if they add in a signal a running QB can make with their arm before they slide. Similar to a fair catch. Call it a safe down or something. The spot of the signal is the spot they are down. No more faking a slide to get extra yards. Probably add in rules for how far away a defender has to be before they make the signal so the defenders have time to react and don't get called for late hits.
NFL tries to bubble wrap a contact sport. The biggest problem is that there are only like 7 or 8 quality NFL quarterbacks. Once backups are playing, the play gets atrocious.
Once a qb is past the line he is a runner idgaf about the number on is back LAY HIM OUT. If he wants to protect himself go down like wrs who just make the catch and don’t want to risk a hit.
I do think this was a dirty hit. Very high, very hard. But honestly I WOULD be ok with abolishing the QB slide altogether. It's dumb. Either scramble out of bounds or don't run if you don't want to get hit. It's dumb to just LET them get a 1st down or try to pull off when you're already beginning your tackle.
I say get rid of the slide completely. The only reason a RB or WR would deliberately give themselves up in a game is for clock management purposes. If a QB decides to run they should have the same mindset. You want to run that's fine, but you WILL get tackled so you have to decide if it's worth it.
NFL needs to somehow rid itself of the RPO game, it's ruining pro football. How about, if the quarterback leaves the pocket "Roughing the passer" is no longer in play. Take the slide rule out and let Mahomes, Jackson, Hurts, Allen start taking those shots that the defenders are afraid to give. The sooner the NFL switches back to a pocket passer league, the sooner great NFL football will return.
I disagree that Mahomes abuses a rule… he has talked about it numerous times about his active decision making. And also, why not protect the most expensive player.
Whatever happened to QB's pointing at the ground before they slid? If players are having a hard time figuring it out make a rule if the QB doesn't point he can get smacked
The slide should be replaced with something similar to a fair catch. The QB can make a signal to give up on the play. Maybe consider also implementing a 5 yard zone in which this has to be initiated. So if a defender is within 5 yards of the QB or the play is behind the line of scrimmage, the QB is considered a runner and the signal or even a slide is nullified.
This is an excellent idea! My biggest issue with making fake sliding a penalty is adding any judgement calls to the rules IMO with how bad NFL officiating is is a recipe for disaster. Just look at how bad refs have botched roughing the passer calls in the last few years, those are all judgment calls. If you have something like you suggest it would be a black and white thing, either the QB made the signal or they didn't. How many people do you see complaining about fair catch interference calls? No one.
Make it reviewable, then the dirty player is out without pay as long as the injured player is out (with some protection for a team falsely keeping a second tier player out to remove an A-list player on the sidelines).
Not much that can be done, the slide rule is not unique to QBs, any player can "surrender" with a slide & doesn't need to be touched even to be considered down. Taking an knee also is downing the ball. The injuries that happen on the slide plays is almost NEVER accidental, those players know exactly what they are doing. I think if they really wanted to eliminate the injuries like Trevor just suffered they need to stiffen the penalty to a season-long ban(17 games minimum for intentional) & a lifetime ban for repeat offenders.
I don't know, I'm not exactly sure what's dirty about that hit. It looked like he went for the hit right as Trevor started sliding and he happened to hit his upper body. Just an unfortunate accident to me it seems.
Real easy, put a sash on the QB and a one hand touch past the line of scrimmage = tackle. Any QB who lowers their head playing hero ball = 5 yd penalty + loss of down.
Brady said it and I've been saying it for months. Slides should be banned or at least not protected. It especially makes no sense when Mahomes, Jackson, and Allen who are practically running backs when they scramble.
Sorry the Mahomes part of this is a bad take… it mainly comes from Mahomes haters… he cuts up the sideline like every nfl player ever since the dawn of the league and somehow he is cheating. The Carolina one he cut right up the sideline. The 49rs one he was following blockers and the defender took a bad angle and over ran the play.
Theyre ignoring the physics of it to, defensive player is running full speed at QB, right before contact QB slides. The defensive player cant just magically stop on a dime and not hit the QB. This late hit bullshit is just a symptom of this soft league.
This is such a dumb take. Players know exactly what they're doing. They're going for a big hit and they don't care about the consequences. These guys need to stop aiming for other guys heads. It's really not that hard
@@johnlinks No, you have the dumb take. Anyone who runs can potentially get past a defender, so the defender will do anything within his grasp to take them down. Sliding as a concept is fine, but in practice allows for shady calls on a defender doing exactly what he should be doing in the scenario. You’d be aiming for someone’s head too if you were running at them and aiming for their waist they suddenly started sliding. It is unavoidable.
@@kobblestonemc someone's head is not suddenly going to be at waist level in an instant, especially because going into a slide means their head should move farther back you also shouldn't be aiming a forearm or shoulder if you want to tackle at the waist, you should be wrapping them up
Once a QB becomes a Runner . . . he is "Just another 1 of the 53" - there cannot be certain rules for Certain Players. The game is getting to Soft-already.
The nfl used to flag players who flopped after getting hit. I say when a qb decides to run he should be treated like a a regular ball carrier. When you choose to run as a qb you forfeit the extra protection a passer gets. This is football, these players made a choice to play. You get paid lots of money and get famous to play a physical sport. The only way to guarantee to not get hurt is to not play.
That is already how it is, it's like you don't even know the rules... that hit on Trevor would've been illegal on ANY player & any position player can slide surrender, they do it ALL the time especially late game to keep the ball inbounds & the clock running.
@@damnice I don't think people DO know the rules, and that's the problem. There's so many people here proposing things that are already the rules. It's really just up to the refs to enforce those rules consistently. That's the problem with ALL the NFL's rules problems, QB hits or not. There's too much subjectiveness to a lot of them that leads to inconsistent application of the rules. There's too many people who think that certain rules should only be applied in certain situations, like NOT calling holding or PI on a Hail Mary for instance. If something his holding in the 1st quarter of a Thursday night Jags/Titans game, it should be holding in the waning seconds of the NFCCG as well. "Just let them play!" is screamed by a lot of people, but only when it's their team getting penalized.
Mahomes has nothing to do with the cheap shot on Lawrence. If he's in bounds, then he can be hit. Simple as that. The hit on Lawrence was a kill shot. Plain and simple.
You use Mahomes as an example but you post videos of him cutting up field 10 yards before the side line and another where he stops to allow a defender to get blocked out of bounds. So a QB can’t evade the defender.
I'm sure I'm going to get flamed to ever living Hell for this by a bunch of meatheads, but honestly I don't really like massive hits in sports. I'm not gonna lie there have been a few that I enjoyed at the time, but as I've gotten older I just see it as wholly unnecessary. Now I'm not saying the NFL should be flag football, but instead of hitting I think the league should move towards a tackle only one, so pure hitting only no longer becomes a legal defensive play but tackling is. I await the flames.
Psalms 51:1-2 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. This is a good prayer to use if you need to repent
0:38... Talks about Mahomes "abusing" some fake slide sideline nonsense made up "greasy" rule... then proceeds to show him just use his blocks like any other skill position player would on two consecutive plays. 🤦♂Then you try to equate what he just did in those two plays to an actual play where a QB fake slides on the Kenny Pickett play. That is some PEAK hater shit, you got to let that go. A universe doesn't exist on those two plays where any defender "gave up" or just decided to not tackle him... they were literally just blocked or pushed off their angle (here is where you applaud both Kareem Hunt and Justin Watson, good job boys). Now if you show all the times he runs towards the sideline and just gets tackled as he is going out of bounds, like any other player (I know you won't... doesn't help the narrative right). It's like these people's brains are broken and stuck on a single play where he was ACTUALLY pushed almost 2 yards out of bounds, not touched until he was damn near passed the white lines on a legit call vs the Bengals like 3 years ago.
As a bengals fan, Mahomes 100% is the king of that, considering it's the only reason the bengals lost the last Afc championship. Nfl is becoming pretty boring to watch tbh. The bengals suck now. Every other game I watch seems to have unreasonable penalties that benefit the team with better Vegas odds. Not really worth my time I check out highlights and this channel.
If a guy is 1 inch off the sideline you do not need to freight train him to force him out. Mahomes doesn't do anything exploitative or unfair when he runs along the sideline just like a WR would. If you see players missing him and think "oh they're just scared to hit him", you're being stupid. I also think human reflexes should make it pretty easy to not FOLLOW a guy down as he slides to hit him. Stop whining.
The QB slide was the worst mistake the NFL ever made. It absolutely did ruin this game, and noone will ever convince me otherwise. Running 15 yards across open field then laying down is not football.
If the QB crosses the line of scrimmage, they should become counted as runners.
Won’t happen they make too much
Agreed. They shouldn't get special treatment for any reason. It's the NFL - there needs to be hitting and tackling. If the QB doesn't like that, then he should stay behind the line and pass it or hand it off instead
They are, mahomes just like to bait flags on the stepping out of bounds, and as far as “fake sliding”, Pickett made a small move, just like when a player jukes, and late sliding, I’ve never seen a “late slide” and Trevor Lawrence didn’t even late slide on this
I agree that the flag baiting is BS stepping out of bounds
They already protect qbs to the max they literally can’t do anymore
One of the things I've noticed about Mahomes is how he'll approach the sideline as if he's going to scamper out of bounds, and when the defender slows up to avoid the inevitable flag, he scoots up the sideline for more easy yards. I guess you could call that clever, but in a different era, he would have paid dearly for his cuteness ... 15 yards be damned.
Yeah. Sometimes he'll even extend the ball like he's reaching for maximum yardage before he cuts back in towards the middle of the field. Awful.
Exploiting a shitty rule is not clever
Okay but I wouldn't say he does it that often. He does scoot up the sideline though. Other QBs have done it 😅
The defender could easily usher him out of bounds to confirm, it’s such a stupid excuse for bad defending to say the QB is dirty
@@easportssucks4347It's clever and evil
Brady calling out QBs for being shady is peak comedy. All of these BS rules that treat QBs as untouchable are mostly a result of his whining and crying

To be fair to Brady: I've never seen him fake a slide and run into the endzone 😂
@@temptation_wrld9702there are NYG fans in this thread. Sssshhhh!
@@jvatExactly, when Brady slid he slid. I don't blame players like Mahomes for faking the slide, I blame the league for not balancing the rules. If you're going to make the QB a super-protected position you shouldn't build in exploits for them as well.
He lead with his forearm. That’s the only discussion for the Lawrence hit. You don’t tackle with the back of your elbow.
Exactly
Pussy
And? You make hits with your arms and shoulders. This is football. There's hitting. If you don't like it, there's always WNBA, volleyball or Taylor Swift music videos for you to watch.
You've never seen a safety or cornerback go low with arms and shoulders to take out a TE? Ya...sit this one out.

So that's illegal just because the guy plays a certain position? If you don't want treated like a running back, don't play like one.

If its about safety they shouldnt be able to fake slide
No fake slides and no pulling a Mahomes or faking out of bounds, doing either results in the play blown dead and a penalty.
Defensive players should have a half yard leniency out of bounds to hit quarterbacks within reason.
@@Maintenance_Mark I like it. Youre a gentlemen and a scholar
There should be a grey area where pushing is okay but much harder contact isn't.

The difference is you're allowed to hit them. How do you not see that?
Easiest fix is to simply ban slides. I think QBs get hurt more often when they do slide because of plays like these. Remember Teddy Bridgewater and Joe Flacco. QBs are already protected enough; they should be tackled just like every other player
All players are allowed to give them selves up with a slide, a knee, or some other dive. It is not just for QBs
The run against Carolina he's not even close to the sideline.
@ yeah this video is goofy as hell
Defenses need to be told to follow all the rules but still fully engage in ALL situations. QBs will learn to stop being cute. You can still hit quarterback while keeping the rules and keeping each other safe.
Eckharts ladder
Gotta be
You should have mentioned that Lawrence is going on IR due to a shoulder injury he will undergo surgery for.
I dunno if you know this but, when RBs, WRs, TEs, and QBs run up the sidelines, the defender can push them out of bounds and it's a legal play.
If your going to pay QBs 200+ million dollars, you can't have them getting slaughtered.
I agree, that hit on Lawrence was dirty as hell. Can’t deny a forearm to the face.
Simple fix for this, ban the QB slide. If they want to run, they either have to get out of bounds or brace for the hit
Good video, great clip selection, I've been looking for that close-up shot at 1:28 and couldn't find it anywhere
I think the forearm to the face was deserving of a flag. Regarding QBs, all WRs/RBs cross the line of scrimmage expecting to be hit/tackled. They don't slide.
Idea (but would hurt the value of some QBs like L. Jackson and J. Allen): QBs past the line of scrimmage are down with two hand touch.
If I was a QB I wouldn’t slide. I would go down in a more protective manner. The slide makes the runner nearly defenseless.
Just create a penalty for " Motion to slide" where if a QB makes the motion to slide the ball is automatically down and a penalty is applied.
Get rid of the slide rule, they wanna run, they get hit
The cope is real... showing the mahomes panthers scramble is ridiculous xD he was 3+ yards from the sideline until he went out of bounds. Cry harder
I don't want to see anyone get hurt. IDGAF if they're a QB or a punter. If I wanted to see people get hurt I'd watch UFC.
Mahomes Derangement Syndrome is a thing.
If the NFL was truly interested in player safety they would ban hits entirely and play flag football.
Al-Shaair used his 'injured' arm as a weapon. He deserves a season's suspension IMO. This was not like anything I have ever seen before.
That hit was crazy..
The truth is American football is the most flawed of all US sports.
They did change the rule in college so you can’t fake giving yourself up
I do think this was a dirty hit.
Get tackled?? In football? The audacity!!
just make it challengable that a D can use against a QB 1 per game
NFL needs to somehow rid itself of the RPO game, it's ruining pro football. How about, if the quarterback leaves the pocket "Roughing the passer" is no longer in play. Take the slide rule out and let Mahomes, Jackson, Hurts, Allen start taking those shots that the defenders are afraid to give.
The sooner the NFL switches back to a pocket passer league, the sooner great NFL football will return.
I disagree that Mahomes abuses a rule… he has talked about it numerous times about his active decision making. And also, why not protect the most expensive player.
There's a solution if they don't change the rules... Following the Dan Campbell's way of dealing with Caleb Williams.
Defenders can take the hit if they are a step away
Whatever happened to QB's pointing at the ground before they slid? If players are having a hard time figuring it out make a rule if the QB doesn't point he can get smacked
No not the players the NFL scripted football that is what destroyed football.
The Trevor hit is not a good example of your point. it is in fact the opposite and a truly gross that people defend it.
SLIDING IS FOR BASEBALL...
BAN THE SLIDE IN FOOTBALL...
FOOTBALL IS A CONTACT SPORT. BE A SMARTER QB IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET HIT... 🤔🤯
COMMON SENSE
How about making it easier to block without endless holding penalties?
Am I a bad person for wishing Mahomes would take a hit like Lawrence did?
Not much that can be done, the slide rule is not unique to QBs, any player can "surrender" with a slide & doesn't need to be touched even to be considered down. Taking an knee also is downing the ball. The injuries that happen on the slide plays is almost NEVER accidental, those players know exactly what they are doing. I think if they really wanted to eliminate the injuries like Trevor just suffered they need to stiffen the penalty to a season-long ban(17 games minimum for intentional) & a lifetime ban for repeat offenders.
Just make sliding illegal
Treat him as a runner. Btw, even if he's a runner there, that's a bad hit
I've heard a lot about this hit. Now that I've seen it I don't think it was that dirty
@@kobblestonemcall I'm hearing are excuses here. The dirty players go for the big hit in these situations every time.
@@kobblestonemc someone's head is not suddenly going to be at waist level in an instant, especially because going into a slide means their head should move farther back
you also shouldn't be aiming a forearm or shoulder if you want to tackle at the waist, you should be wrapping them up
Honestly lawrence took to long to slide , he should have gotten down sooner
Once a QB becomes a Runner . . . he is "Just another 1 of the 53" - there cannot be certain rules for Certain Players. The game is getting to Soft-already.
@@michael_caz_nyc then stop watching
If the Texan hit a running back the same way he'd still get penalized for it Dude knocked him out with his elbow
People don't like to watch football with backup QBs.
Lawrence was targeted. No doubt.
Mahomes is the main that does it.
Mahomes has nothing to do with the cheap shot on Lawrence. If he's in bounds, then he can be hit. Simple as that. The hit on Lawrence was a kill shot. Plain and simple.
Maybe just put the QB in a dress ,then the other players would know dont hit the women on the field .
You use Mahomes as an example but you post videos of him cutting up field 10 yards before the side line and another where he stops to allow a defender to get blocked out of bounds. So a QB can’t evade the defender.
I like you target Mahomes for this even though Allen does it 10x more
Are quarterbacks football players or not? Should not be any special rules for quaterbacks. How about just making it the National Flag Football League?
what if the ball was spotted where the QB. slides his foot no matter how much farther he runs this would stop the fake slides
It is, as written, already that way. They just don't enforce it because it's "exciting" to see a QB running apparently
Just play flash football at this point lol
Not allowed to tackle
I'm sure I'm going to get flamed to ever living Hell for this by a bunch of meatheads, but honestly I don't really like massive hits in sports. I'm not gonna lie there have been a few that I enjoyed at the time, but as I've gotten older I just see it as wholly unnecessary. Now I'm not saying the NFL should be flag football, but instead of hitting I think the league should move towards a tackle only one, so pure hitting only no longer becomes a legal defensive play but tackling is.
I await the flames.
National Flag league
Too bad the call against the Bengals was a good call
Taking advice from Brady? He was a cheater and crybaby!
He lead with his forearm.
