What an ugly period the early days of dereg were, and as we in the industry predicted back then, it's ended up in the hands of a few monoliths, serving shareholders not passengers. Same for all privatised public services. Government sanctioned theft.
I grew up in Sheffield in the '70s and the bus service was brilliant, just a pity that they had scrapped the comprehensive tram service a decade or so earlier.
Well said, complete shambles today. How they dare call it a service nowadays I'll never know. "Passenger numbers are down! We must raise ticket prices and cut routes!!"
The thing I noticed, viewing in 2021 is there's a ridiculous number of companies running buses...I think they were deregulated in the late 80s...in 2021 two big companies run buses ..first and Stagecoach
Are you joking dude? Cars are the only way to get anywhere on time? Have you tried driving to Sheffield city centre? There's no where more anti car. LTNs, one ways, no entries, bus gates, concrete blocks and bollards at every twist and turn...... Leopold St, how do you get to it, then where does it go? I'll give you a challenge, Surrey St, never mind trying to get to it without getting a ticket, get out of it, it's blocked off at Fargate, so turn yourself round, turn left, down past the Crucible, turn right? No!!! Turn left, go down to the Park Square roundabout, all the way round it and come back, all if you originally wanted to turn right onto Arundel Gate. Little London rd and Edgedale rd blocked off so Abbeydale rd and Chesterfield rd are now stood still all day, roads blocked off everywhere 👍
I was 7 years old and still remember these like it was yesterday
The place where all dreams for snooker players can come true.
Eager Beavers!! I always wanted to go on those small buses when I was little. And the Little Nipper!
Looked better in 90s ❤❤❤

Plenty of buses and cheap fares, not the monopoly it is now 👍
My god a bendy bus now i do feel old haha!
Back when using public transport was a viable alternative. Sheffield is a disaster nowadays, cars are the only means to get anywhere on time.
