    Big Softie sounds like a thought-form. It sounds like this one originated from the dudes tormemt and isolation as a kid. And because he imtentionally spent lots of time visualizing a presence with him and spending time with them, he accidentally manifested a representation of his darkest emotions. The vicious bullying gave it the emotional energy it needed to interact with the physical realm. And it fed on the fear and torment of Ian until its master could give it the extra "push" to become physical.

      if you pay close attention, you'll notice that usually whenever the blue sunflowers are mentioned in some form, it's right before the entity of the story strikes or appears, like in this one the magnet fell from the fridge right before the protagonist visually sees Big Softy again. Another one of this author's stories explains that they're kind of like beacons or lighthouses for eldritch beings, like they attract them to our reality or something, and it seems to not only be the actual blue sunflowers themselves but anything resembling or depicting them. A few of their stories center pretty much entirely on the flowers themselves, especially earlier ones.

    I figured I'd repost here.
    From the ages of 5 to 11 years old I had a imaginary friend. I referred to her as "The Crying Lady" that I use to sit by a old japanese rose bush we had in the yard of my childhood home in Western North Carolina. I would visit her what time she wasn't crying. She would wave to me from our large balcony style front porch and I would walk down the hillside on the centerblock stairs down to our mailbox to meet her. I made a habit of stopping by to pick grapes from Dad's vine take to her which she seemed to enjoy. I would find the seeded pits of those grapes laying on the banister right outside my bedroom window the next day along with a few petals from our rose bush. This periodically happened as I didn't have any friends in school as bullying wasn't dealt with well back in the early 90's I was subjected to regular beating by 3 boys from my Martin's Creek class of 39 kids so I looked forward to coming home from school to talk to the lady that sat by the rose bush of red and white blooms and vented my frustrations of the day. She would take off her large white sun hat and sit shoulder to shoulder to me and hum a tune that to this day I remember to be the song "I'm Walking on Sunshine". During the weekend in the summer a few week from my 12th birthday I had been in my room when my older brother had said a black truck had almost hit him but swerved to intentionally hit a small dog that had followed my brother down to our mailbox that was mine, a mini beagle dashhound mix that I love greatly. I was in shock at my little dogs death that I went down and picked up my dog and sat under that rose bush balling with blood covering my T shirt. My imaginary friend came out from under the bush and tried to console me and like the cruel child I was I yelled at her, my only friend in the world to go away and leave me alone. I cried till it made me sick, till I had a fever so bad my nose bled and I had to be put in the hospital in a bath of ice water to get my temperature down. After that day I never saw the Crying Lady and during my stay in the hospital my mom had buried my little dog under that very rose bush. It's sad to lose something dear but even more so to lose a friend real or imaginary to help you cope with being alone. I wonder even to this day what I had befriended under that rose bush as a child, cause after that regretful and painful day I yelled at my only friend that rose bush failed to bloom from that day to the day my childhood home burned to the ground in 2022 which flames took the house and that very rose bush I sat under as a child.

      Can I just give you a huge internet hug right now?!! Your story really tugged at my heart strings, I too suffered from the bullies, but I grew up in the 60's and 70's so when I got bigger, I let the bullies know I was off the menu! I grew up on a farm and my best friend was my horse. I would cry on his shoulder all the time and he would always let me. He was born when I was 7 and my sister and I had raised him because his mother tried to kill him before he even took his first breath. When I was 16 my mother sold him while I was at school because she was a drunk and needed the money to fund her f'ing beer tab. I never saw him again.
      The pain of being bullied, the pain of family, and the pain of the loss of my best friend almost ruined my life. I am a happy old lady now though!
      I would bet that your friend was not imaginary though. I believe she was real, maybe not alive anymore, but definitely real! I loved your story; I will think about it for a while. Peace to you from me and keep your eyes open, maybe she is still around? you never know!

    okay so this story was made a lot less terrifying for me personally at the end when what the protagonist was saying made me mentally picture a 7-foot-tall weird (but superficially human-looking) guy in a suit with a teeth-clicking tic saying "maybe you wouldn't believe it, but I'm kind of a...Big Softy" all dramatic like in a raspy voice, and for some reason, that mental image made me laugh

  • @HappyMatt12345
    @HappyMatt12345 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Tulpa. Definitely. Probably a manifestation of the protagonists darkest thoughts and desires given strength from their own belief in it.

    • @Isaac-hm6ih
      @Isaac-hm6ih 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm only a little way in, maybe a quarter, but I don't think this is a tulpa. It showed up without the protagonist believing in it first, or even knowing about it. I think it's more of an "accidentally channelling a spirit of some sort into the regular world" situation.

    • @HappyMatt12345
      @HappyMatt12345 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Isaac-hm6ih that's an interesting theory. I personally think what happened was that OPs mystery imaginary friend was the side of his subconscious that was depressed/angry/vengeful due to being isolated and picked on manifesting itself and when OP was under attack by a bully, his desperation brought that side of him out with enough focus that it gained autonomy but was still relatively weak, but years later it manipulated a situation where it could make OP desperate in the same way to gain a full physical form in our world.

    • @Isaac-hm6ih
      @Isaac-hm6ih 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After finishing the story, I still think it was PROBABLY something with an external origin. Its origin seems too distinct from the others and feels like it appeared to unaware bystanders too easily in my opinion. But it used the protagonist to give it shape and access to the world somehow, leading to tulpa-like elements. A tulpa is possible but seems less likely to me.
      I'm reminded of the monster in a horror movie, the lockdown movie Host. MINOR SPOILERS:
      After someone makes up a person and gets a psychic to contact them "You created a sort of mask. And then anything could come through wearing that mask."

    • @venga3
      @venga3 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tulpas are purposely created. Why do you need to use words you don't understand? Check Wikipedia for their origins, it's an interesting rabbit hole.

    Mr. Grupe, with the great stories you write yourself, what's in the dark and twisty corners of your mind? There's got to be a Hannibal Lecter, Sam Peckinpah's the Wild Bunch, Quentin Tarantino's Hateful 8 type story locked away in a dark, dank little closet in there? One writer to another, will be be able to be privy to it? Please.
