  • The fuel filters must be changed every 2. year and this time I will like to try the cheap chinese brand Osculati wich pops up when you are searching for a alternative to the original Volvo fuel filters eg. type nr. 861477.
    Osculati is a equipment chain where you can buy different stuff for your boat, a store type as Biltema or Wallmart.
    Osculati then buy a lot of filters in china and then stamp on their logo and sell the filters for a affordable price.
    You can find the filters at different prices and somtimes dubble the price so watch out before you click the buy botton.
    Regarding the quality you get what you pay for, the Osculati filters looks like all the other filters but there is a different in the build quality there is splitting the good from the bad.
    The bad thing is the filters is hard to install due to the measurements don't quite fit 100% so the best thing is to stick with the Delphi 296 for the pre-filter and go for someting else for the fine filter.
    If you are on a budget the Osculati filters is ok, but as emergency filter the precision is just not good enough for a fast swap.
    I have also seen the filters sold under the brand "Solas"
    The filters I use in the video is :
    CAV pre-filter Osculati 17.666.00 - 7,5 US Dollars
    Spin-on fine-filter Osculati 17.502.02 - 16,5 US Dollars
    A good alternative to the Osculati CAV filter element is WIX, Fleetguard, Hengst, Delphi, MANN, Bosch, Baldwin and also the one from Biltema.
    Regarding the fuel samples the fuel will be more yellow when inside a black fuel tank or a jerrycan and it will get lighter in the color when exposed to sunlight.
    The point is to spot water or diesel bug in your tank and see how it develop over time, with diesel treatment and without.
    I use Liqui Moly Marine Diesel Protect in my tank, a product there is keeping the diesel bug away and also protects the diesel system against corrosion.
    I also bleed the diesel fuel system on a pretty easy and new way

    That was excellent. On my yanmar I use a suction pump on the fine filter just before the engine. That has gone now and a Volvo 2040 is on the way so this was very helpful, thank you. Good access to your engine there. I hope my new boat is as good.

    Fantastic video, thank you. Can I ask why didn't you just use your syringe to add a small amount of diesel to the top of each filter compartment rather than sucking out the air or pumping through, in the case of the fine filter? I think this would work to displace the air. Thanks😊

    Thank you for this excellent video!!
    This was very helpful, and in many ways.
    On my D1-30 (2006 Bav 33) it is very similar but getting to that bolt on the bottom of the bowl is in a very difficult place to reach on my boat.
    I accidentally broke off the bolt going at it from an awkward angle.
    A mechanic showed me how he never removes the bottom bolt and just removes the top long bolt, which is easy to get to, and let’s the whole filter and bowl fall into a container. He actually just uses an old plastic one quart oil container with one side cut out which seems to be the perfect size.

    Today I was changing both primary and secondary fuel filters on my Volvo MD7B and I tried your method. I worked great saving me time pumping the lever to purge the air. Thanks again.

    Hi for some reason, the Osculati prefilter did not fit. It's slightly too long for the long screw at the top to reach the screwpath of the bottom piece.

      You can get the CAV filters in two different lengths, maybe you have bought the long version.

    Hi Tino, a nice movie and help me to change the filters. I habe bought my Bavaria 32 from 2002 in die beginning of this year and it is no heating mounted. I will Install a heating and from this point can you make a short movie that i can see how is the heating mounted. Many thanks and always good luck

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :) - Yes I will make a video about how the heating system is installed. I don't know what heater brand you choose but there is of course Webasto there is a good well known brand, but also pretty expensive to buy. It is also possible to buy one of these chinese heaters out there, a ok quality and at a price around 200 US Dollars. Then you can get the air duct system installed and a heater without blowing the bank. A Webasto heater is around 2000 US Dollars + air ducts and so, but someting there also is important is to buy one there is big enough. Also where the heater is located is a bit important due to the quite high noise from the heater. Regarding Webasto it is possible to buy one used, clean it for carbon and it will pretty sure run until the day you sell the boat.

    I did the change yesterday and I find that the best is to change them both together at once instead of pouring diesel in the filter, it maybe takes 10-15 times to pump and you get the diesel through the both filters. pretty simple.

    Thanks so much for the extremely helpful videos! You mention at 25.30 m that you should make sure the engine is at top dead centre. I didn't find any mention of this in the manual when bleeding. So three questions, how important, how to check this, and how to adjust it if it is incorrect? Thanks for any guidance!

    • @twiper
      @twiper  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the hand pump at any point but at top dead centre the pump has the best function. The top dead centre is marked at the flywheel, but sometimes pretty hard to see.

    Thanks for the video. I replaced my primary (engine) and secondary (Delphi) fuel filters on my Beta 20. But I started by closing tap from fuel tank then attaching a Pela oil suck-out hand vacuum pump to engine fuel pump return hose, pumped a few times to build up vacuum then opened the Delphi CAV bleed valve on top of secondary filter. This sucked out most of the fuel between second filter and fuel return pipe. When I unscrewed both filters there was hardly any spill due to both filters now drained.
    With new filters now in place and all bleed screws closed, I used the hand vacuum pump once again, but this time I opened the fuel tank's supply tap and fuel system was refilled. Engine fired up fine. I did a double check on both filter's bleed valves just to make sure there was no air trapped. I don't have a manual hand pump lever on my engine's mechanical pump.

    Hi Tino, the orignal VP oil filter has a better quality then the rest. It has to do with the spring inside the filter.

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I know the Volvo Penta filters are the best, but also x6 the price of a Osculati ( 7.5 US Dollars for the Osculati and 45 US Dollars for the Volvo filter )

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Regarding oil filteres there is a different from eg. Fram to a quality oil filter, it is the way the oil is flowing when it bypasses the safety valve inside the filter. I have just made a "separation" of the old Fleetguard fuel filter and the quality seems to be very good. In the fuel filter there is no safety valve as build into the oil filters. The spring there is holding the filter unit where it must be is also of a very good and strong quality.

      @@pedropedroztravels8272 Yes the Volvo parts is almost insanely high priced. But you also get a good quality, an air filter is something there will last a good amount of years so the price is in a way ok....

    When I change the fine filter at my VP2020, I fill it with fresh diesel just before I mount it. Since there is only a very small amount of air left, it will bleed out when I turn on the engine. It only takes a few more seconds for the engine to start, than regularly. And after a few seconds running, the engine is running all stable.
