      Thanks for reacting to Alamat!... There are 7 different languages used in the lyrics. The boys came from different areas in the Philippines (We have 100s+ of languages)... The song is about "kasmala"=malakas=strong feelings for a girl. Also representative with the Filipino nation as a whole being so enamored with the "American Dream". The MV is about racism in the early 1900s and is elaborated in this video: th-cam.com/video/zH-LOvjneAU/w-d-xo.html

    As cute as it may look but the scene where Gami was eating stuffed animals 3:33 , represents how Filipinos are mistreated in 1904 St Louis World Fair. Filipinos eat dogs for very special occassions as part of their tradition but as living exhibits in the said world's fair, they are fed with dogs for the show.
    + In the Scene where Alas was scrubbed in the pool while holding a spear 2:35, is inspired from the famous political cartoon of judge titled "Filipinos first bath" where former president William Mckinley was holding a filipino holding a spear while scrubbing it.
    + Also, in the very first frame of the MV where Taneo was being tied in a pole is inspired by the photo taken in 1906' exhibit in Coney Island, New year where a Toddler was tied up and displayed for Americans to watch. Just like how we watch animals caged in the zoo. He may look hot in the MV but there is a horrifying story behind it.
    + In the second verse upto the second chorus, their outfits are inspired by the filipino manongs who were brought to the America to work in farm. These Filipino Farm workers were promised for a better life but in the end suffered from mistreatment and racism.
    That was part of the Philippine history that wasn't even taught in PH school oof. I had to google it myself. Thank you ALAMAT for this masterpiece.

      Only some tribes in certain provinces do but not everyone in the Philippines eat dogs, especially today, people who eat dogs in the philippines are like 4-5% of the population. It's just a small percentage. lol

    The mv is all about american occupancy back way then, it's really have a dark story line behind it
    Racism and exploitation that happen when americans colonize us the guys who have worn full white suit it represents them
    They are all pure filipino except MO half black american and filipino the one who has braid and hit the high note
    Thank you for discovering another PPOP looking forward at your reaction hope you to get a reaction on new EP SB19 medley track

    • @KayPopReacts
      @KayPopReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Wow that’s crazy but omg love the ethnicity mix it’s beautiful to see

  • @julienneloreto8561
    @julienneloreto8561 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Hello! Thank you for reacting. Yes, Mo is half-Black, but as the admin said some of them may have Chinese/other Asian ancestry. For example, the guy who was being taught A-B-Cs is named Ralph Joseph Lim in real life, so he most likely has Chinese ancestry. (Lim is a Chinese surname.) So yes, Mo isn't really the only one who is multiracial. But Filipinos are used to diversity.
    In terms of ethnicity, they represent different ethnic groups native to the Philippines as well! The Philippines has more than 100 ethnic groups and more than 100 native languages (not dialects, as some people may mistakenly call them). In the song, they smoothly incorporate each member's respective language. (Only 7 languages rather than 8 because Gami and Alas speak the same language, which is Bisaya/Cebuano. It's understandable, though, because Bisaya people are the second-largest ethnic group in the Philippines.)

    • @KayPopReacts
      @KayPopReacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Oh wow that’s so amazing. I love diversity I wasn’t aware of the ethnic variations but absolutely love it! Thank you for the details

    • @julienneloreto8561
      @julienneloreto8561 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@KayPopReacts Thank you for welcoming this information! The Philippines is fun to learn about, its history is so fascinating because it's not really a single country.
      If you look at a Philippine map, you'll see of course that it's made up of thousands of separate islands. Like, they're not joined together. And when you think about it, it's like... *of course* it makes sense that we have many different native ethnic groups and 100+ native languages. It makes sense, because these islands are separate and weren't one country until Spanish colonization.
      And just as a fun fact, the percentage of Filipinos with Spanish blood isn't actually that high. It's pretty low, less than 50% of the population. Stanford University even said it's only 1 to 3% (very low!) of the Filipino population who do have Spanish blood. The reason some Filipinos are darker or lighter, or have certain features, may have something to do with convergent evolution i.e. their skin color and features evolved to adapt to certain environments.
      For example, Indigenous tribes in the Philippines that are based in the mountains developed light skin due to the cold climate. There are also Indigenous groups in the Philippines once believed to be related to Black Africans, but studies showed that they were not; they were truly Indigenous to the Philippines, but thanks to the sunny climate, their skin evolved to be very dark.

      Not exactly true! As the admin said in the pinned, some of them may have Chinese or other Asian ancestry. R-Ji's real name is Ralph Joseph Lim, so we can safely assume he's part-Chinese. (Lim is one of the most common Chinese surnames in Southeast Asia.)

    • @julienneloreto8561
      @julienneloreto8561 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hunterxxx6121 What are you saying I don't understand? Chinese surnames *aren't* like Spanish surnames; Spanish surnames were imposed on the natives with the Claveria Decree. No such colonial rule was imposed upon Filipino natives for Chinese surnames, which is why you're more likely to have Chinese blood if you have a Chinese surname than you are to actually have any Spanish ancestry if you have a Spanish surname.
      And if you think I ever said the modern Filipino was "pure-blooded," you didn't properly read my reply. I was literally saying that Mo is in fact *not* the only mixed-race person in the group, because racial and ethnic mixing are common in contemporary Philippines.
      Also, Lim is common in other Southeast Asian countries; it's the second most common Chinese surname in Singapore. What was the purpose of your reply?
      Don't lecture me on things I know.

    The song represents how Filipinos are very friendly people (the woman). it's about the history of the Philippines: colonized by Spain and America and how they were treated (racism). Their costumes are from different Islands and they speak different dialects (languages). The part showing romance with white suits represents inter-racial, Filipinos are a diverse race. The Kali (martial arts) was hidden from the colonizer and the ABC part was pushing to change the Philippines alphabets.

So basically that happened in real life, igorots (a tribe and native Filipinos from the norther part of the Philippines) were put in a zoo along with other races such as Africans, japanese and etc to exploit their culture. That fair consist mainly of Filipino tribe, which they call the 'highlight' of the fair and depicts them as the lowest of all the human beings as they were people who recently got civilized by "Americans" and freed them from Spanish colonialism. They were treated as animals and entertainment. They were forced to fake conduct their ceremony of marriage and make them eat dogs everyday for "SHOW" (I know eating dogs is not acceptable, but yes that tribe particularly eat dogs ONLY if there is an important occasion) that's why you see Gami the guy with red contact lenses is biting the stuff toy while those people in white suit watches him, it symbolizes it I guess? They were shocked and called them savage dog eaters and bad guys (I mean... Culture guys! In today's Philippines eating dog meat is already prohibited and will be punishable of crime) Those people covered in white suit probably represents the Americans. Search it on Google or YT for clear explanation of what happened in the world's fair st Louis in 1904 to get more details about the history of it. I recently learned about this and it made me shock and sad at the same time that such racism happened back then 😟
    thanks to alamat Filipinos who didn't know was able to know about this through their music.🤎

    "Kasmala" is a playword for Filipino word Malakas which means strong. The song depicts the white washing of the American colonialists during their occupation in the Philippines. And yes, when they brought some Filipinos to United States in places like California, Nevada, Texas, and Hawaii to work in agriculture..and history will tell us that the American Dream isn't always peaches and apples all the time. Just like Jewish, Irish, Chinese, Arabs and the Black community..there was a time when that sign "No Filipinos, Irish or dogs allowed" was in placed in restaurants and stores everywhere. ALAMAT's comeback is on point!! 💪🏽🔥

    The video they are trying to convey here are the American colonial era in the Philippines which is the darkest part of our country’s history. Much darker than Spain and the Japanese occupation combined, which killed 4 million Filipinos (which is the 1/3 population of the Philippines at that time) as they attempted to transform the Philippines into a pure Anglo-Saxon nation in Asia, the reason why this isn’t touched upon in the Philippine history because the Philippine education system is very pro-American which is frustrating. The Philippine Exposition 1904 is actually a human zoo created by the Americans to showcase the indigenous ethnic tribes in the Philippines who were shipped to the US (mostly they’re from the Cordilleran Nation, specifically the ethnic Igorots). The white masked people are literally the [White] American men.
    At the video where Alas was brushed by the white PPE; it’s actually a reference of the “Filipino’s First Bath” poster by William McKinley. Since the US at that time implemented the Jim Crow laws, we are considered as undesirables together with African-Americans. The poster promoted white skin as ideal and that brown skin is considered “dirty” which has been ingrained to the Philippine society up to this day.
    From Mo when he was photographed by the white man; Filipinos under the US are equated as a monkey.
    From Gami, the Americans pour their money on Filipinos who are in human zoos as they find it entertaining. Filipinos (especially Cordillerans) were forced to eat dogs for entertainment, that’s why Gami ate the stuff toy.
    From R-Ji, learning American English and American culture is a must, to the point where Filipinos began to embrace and love the American culture, abandoning the mainstream Hispanicized Filipino culture in that era.
    In the chorus, it shows Filipinos are forced to “dance” to Americans for entertainment at human zoos.
    Valfer & Los Filipinos Tailoring symbolizes the success of a first generation Filipino immigrant in the US. Since Filipinos are very classy people and athletically built in the early 1900s, white American women fell in love with them which irritated the white American men. This led to anti-Filipino riots in California and Seattle where Filipino-Americans were killed out of pure hatred and jealousy.
    From Jao, it symbolizes as an independent farmer where they are killed on daily basis for speaking their rights, probably killed by Americans or traitorous Filipino hacienderos. Sadly, these kind of practice still exists up to this day.
    At Taneo when he was lying down with the white PPE, it’s a sexual connotation where Filipino women are brainwashed that white people are literally the ideal men. Sadly, this still exists (only applies to women that belonged to the marginalized sector of the Philippine society)
    EDIT: Or when white American women falls in love with Filipino men in the US, the explanation for this is already on Valfer’s scene but it’s vice versa anyway lol
    To summarize, Alamat is doing the American colonial era concept where Filipinos under the USA are second-class citizens in their own land, no matter what ethnicity you are. Even Insulares (Filipino-born Spaniards) are second-class citizens as well. Forced to speak English (because if they don’t, they’ll be killed for an attempt to spread sedition/resisting American leadership). Credits to Makio Ren
