Trevor Ariza doesn't move his family, or at least he didn't this year or last year. They stay in North Carolina while he plays with Miami. He usually visits them in the off-season or when he has a big break.

This is why there should be rules in place to prevent so much emotional suffering for these players. Why they ought to get a say in these decisions. They earn the money they do because we are captivated and inspired by their skill and performance. Not just to cushion the blow when they are treated like little more than cattle.
and there's only one way to guarantee that you never get traded. Set a goal and put in the hard work to be as good as Kobe Bryant, Michael or Steph Curry and you'll more than likely play for one team your entire career :)

Mistrust creates acrimony which leads to jaded players that feel threatened all the time. Its nice to have options but there is so much to be said for security and trust.
Look at how hurt so many players are when their teams toss them to the curb when they think they're career is on the down turn. Often times they come back with a vengeance. Brett Favre comes to mind. Bit players? I get it, but guys that have chemistry with your stars? Legendary players that created a legacy for your franchise?
