Rijker is legit in both boxing and kickboxing. Those dutch and people of black suriname descent seems to dominate kickboxing. I always thought that was interesting. Remy Bonjasky, Ernesto Hoost, an Lucia Rijker to name a few.
A lot of that footage is from the documentary Shadow Boxers (1999), which is highly recommended. It shows her toughness in the ring, her extreme focus during training, and her admirable Buddhist philosophy. It also shows James Toney teasing her and everyone else during dinner at a fight camp. haha During the rare times that I'm asked to assist coaching, I always use Rijker's fight against Hallback as an example on how to deal with a swarmer. Roach gives her great advice between the 1st and 2nd rounds and she executes great. Rijker is in a league of her own. For contemporary fighters I like that Irish boxer Katie Taylor, Canadians Mary Spencer and Ariane Fortin, and of course the powerhouse American Clarissa Shields.
I have that DVD myself, well actually it is Hills. As for me, I saw Her fight live when I was in a fighters corner on the under card. What most people do not get is that most women who are good, fight like tomboys. Women who are great, fight like men. Her technique is far superior to 80% Of men fighters.
