great video, i visited here recently and its amazing to see how it was when working, i recognised some of the rooms there, i even stood in one of the things the digesters empty into!
I’ve got some cracking memorabilia of this place, some of the 1950s archer magazines and a workers notebook belonging to a ‘glenn’ it was a C machine recipe book, containing all the different papers made on the Beloit machine. Plugwraps, PE panda and ivy verge papers ect…. All documented with instructions on how to start the machine and change speeds!
7:38 I remember working at paper mill when 17 and seeing that Light and siren and seeing radiation sign and guy slowing it down changing a roll and all the paper coming out the side and having to jump on it to flatten it
what is that second roll on the beaters used for, i've heard it called a washer, it's usually turned by the same motor The use of a bevel gear, what does it do?
+Levi Heidle Hi Levi, Thank you for your question. The video does not make it too clear, but the main job of the Potcher was really to wash the fibre whilst doing some cutting to reduce fibre length. Later in the process the beaters were used to fibrillate the fibres. Inevitably some cutting goes on at this stage too. Any more questions, please ask
