HOME!!!! ❤ WHOA! YOU'RE IN MY AREA! This place, De-Na-Zin, Dééł Náázíní, translates as “Standing Crane,” which is a reference to crane petroglyphs found south of the Wilderness. This place is also a HUGE sacred "playground" to our Warrior Twins. It is said, the warrior (Hero) twins, Born of Water and Monster Slayer, are the twin sons of Changing Woman and were born to rid the earth of the monsters who were killing the Diné (navajo). Monster Slayer is the elder twin, known as Nayénzganíí in Diné, and Born of Water is the younger twin, known as Tobadzîschíníí in Diné. With that said, they used that entire area as their "playground or practice" field. They hid behind the boulders, hoodoos, and other natural formation. After all they were the ones who rid the area of Yeí's (monsters), with the help of their father. Our father, the sun Jóhonaaʼéí. Enjoy our lands, even if it BLM or if it's a NP, before all of that. "This" place belonged to my people, The Diné. 😊
Don't worry about the regular gas. That 4.7 motor in the LC was also in that generation Tundra. It's arguably the most robust motor Toyota ever built. If you Google it there is a lot of info. But many have run 86/87 octane for 100's of thousands of miles without issue.
My 4runner has the same engine, and I've never put anything besides regular in it (85 octane here in Colorado). I'm surprised the land cruiser calls for premium. Sure they could tune it different for different models, but the horsepower numbers for the land cruiser are not impressive.
This is an area of New Mexico which is remote enough to be off the beaten path and isn’t considered a destination. Thanks for showing us something special.
Hey Tristan, you're like the brother I never had. U rock. Thank you so much for taking me on so many adventures with you. Your solo hiking must be heavenly. I enjoy doing the same. Keep on making great videos and I'll keep watching them.
The 'alien throne' echoes forms Antoni Gaudi used in his Barcelona buildings! The large petrified tree makes you realize this surreal area was once much wetter. Thanks!
Silverleaf nightshade is a common weed of the Southwest that is starting to become popular as plant used in xeriscape gardens. I just returned from the Bisti / Ah she sli pa / Chaco area, what an amazing area.
Hi! I found a couple locations you might like: TOP OF THE ROCKIES SCENIC BYWAY, COLORADO, TRAIL OF THE ANCIENTS SCENIC BYWAY, NEW MEXICO, BRIDGES TO BUTTES BYWAY, NEBRASKA, HISTORIC ROUTE 66, CALIFORNIA TO ARIZONA, and the BADLANDS LOOP STATE SCENIC BYWAY, SOUTH DAKOTA. We really enjoy your hikes and exploration. Thanks!
You used that octane booster for exactly the right purpose, to boost the octane of fuel that was lower than specified for your vehicle. Having said that, octane only matters if it's low enough to make your car engine knock/ping. The 91 octane spec probably allows for situations like towing up a mountain at full throttle pulling a trailer, the situation most prone to causing knock. Depending upon how low your tank is when you filled it with 87, the booster adding about 2 octane points may or may not have been needed, but better safe than sorry. If you ever do get in a situation with engine knock, just ease up on the power and torque you're asking the engine for. Slow down, gear down, and rev up to stop knock. The other pro/con of using the booster is that it's also a pretty serious cleaner, so there's a risk of releasing dirt that will clog fuel injectors, and a chance it will clean injectors. So it's a roll of the dice, likely at a time when you don't want to roll dice. A more modest octane booster is ethanol, available most commonly as "yellow bottle HEET" in the auto/oil section at Wal-Mart. I use it as alcohol-backpacking-stove fuel myself. My car runs fine on 87, and there's usually no way of knowing how much ethanol (up to 10%) is already mixed into gas. Many cars can't handle over 10% ethanol, some can. As with most auto questions, read and follow what your car's owner's manual says. Which is pretty much what you did by using octane booster when forced to use 87 octane due to availability.
One of my most favorite hikes in NM! I am always amazed at the colors the "desert" can display. Every time I go I find a new amazement. Truly otherworldly. The plant is Silverleaf Nightshade, a toxic invasive found most everywhere. 🙁
Beautiful & very unusual rock formations! Loved Valley of Dreams. Hope none of the earth destroyers like to hike & come trash this natural beauty of Mother Earth. Thanks for the trip Tristan. 😊👍🏻
I really enjoyed the video from my little slice of Heaven. I was raised in NW New Mexico and have lived here for almost 60 years. I’ve spent many hours in these badlands. I love them. I wouldn’t be afraid of putting regular gas in your vehicle. Don’t waste your time with the high-dollar additive. Engines with high compression use higher octane fuel but the computer compensates nicely. Just don’t expect peak performance when you try to drag race it. Don’t try to hot-rod with low octane fuel because you might get “pre ignition” which could damage pistons and valves.
Awesome. Putting regular gas in your vehicle once in a while, like an emergency will not be an issue. However doing it often or all the time, will cause engine breakdown eventually.
Just so you know, your computer in the Cruiser will retard the ignition timing if it senses spark knock. With most cars running regular fuel in the car that needs premium will do fine until you put the car under some stress, as in lugging the car up a hill in a higher gear. You could see a reduction in gas millage but on flat land with no head wind most cars will do fine. For the most part your computer will keep your engine safe, so no big deal, plus it's not 100% regular fuel in your tank. We have a 200 series Cruiser and it uses regular.
I think the octane booster is the perfect answer to putting regular gas in a premium-only car. It's better to add it before filling up, so it's mixed by the gas flowing in, but driving where you did probably sloshed the fuel around enough. :) Great video, just a few weeks ago I was looking at images after a Google search of the Alien Throne. If only the Valley of Dreams wasn't so far off the beaten path, although maybe that's part of what makes it special.
Excellent alien landscapes; the tumbleweeds at the beginning reminded me of a Outer Limits episode(way back) that we’re alive. Less octane can damage the engine, the booster was fine😎🤣🤩⭐️⭐️
Great video as usual, Tristan! Your calm and reverent presentations of nature make the virtual adventures so enjoyable. You're like if Mr. Rogers ventured out into the Great Outdoors. I hope you take that as a compliment. 👍🙏😉😊
Cool. Have you been on top of Helper Utah mountain. It's called balance rock. I have been up there on a boy scout trip back in the 90s. A latter is on the east side and you can come down down on the west side where the highway 6 is.
I went to Ah-Shi Sle-Pah a few years ago but didn't have the coordinates for Alien Throne and such, so I wandered for a few hours. Saw some cool things, but not the REALLY cool stuff. As for octane, no, one tank of regular won't hurt anything as long as you drive moderately. Contrary to what many people think, high octane gas isn't some kind of super fuel that gives your engine more power. It's needed in higher compression, higher power engines to avoid pre-detonation of the fuel-air mixture. High pressure creates heat. Create enough heat and the fuel-air mixture will start to burn a little before it's supposed too, causing stress on the engine. Octane makes fuel less volatile, harder to burn. But digitally controlled engines can adjust the spark timing somewhat to reduce pre-detonation/knock. (There are knock sensors on the engine.) Octane booster can help, but I had to chuckle when the label mentioned jet fuel. Jet fuel is essentially kerosene with some anti-icing and corrosion additives. Kerosene is less refined than gasoline.
Some of the rock formations could be seen as offerings to the gods...one thing we know for sure is that they are amazing! I have been a subscriber for a long time and you have taken us to incredible places. Thanks! 🏜 🥾🥾 🐻 🗻
Hi Tristen, I lived in Farmington for a year while working on the Navajo Irrigation project , Every weekend we got out to explore. Never saw this. Thans for filling in the blanks.,
Yes, that area is so remote and some very interesting landscape features. I drove through there a number of years ago, stopped in the middle of the dirt road for lunch and a potty break and continued on. I don't think I saw another person all day. I love it except when the gas tank is getting empty, there is no cell service to ask the Google maps lady where the next gas station is.
I think that place looks really Seussical. So strange and fantastical. One formation you didn't name really reminded me of Greece. It could easily have been transplanted.
Wow, just found your channel and what a great video! I just got my van and Im working on getting her road worthy for these exact types of adventures. Thanks for sharing!
Octane Booster will help, and you should use it when you can't find premium fuel. If the octane is insufficient, you will hear a light knocking (detonation) in the engine when you try to accelerate, especially from slower speeds. If you don't hear any knock, you're good.👍
Plant looks like horse nettle. Not edible, but pretty "fruits". Great video, as usual. Loved the rocks! For an octane booster, I've used a similar product, and it made me "feel" good, too!
So glad I found your videos as I will be visiting valley of dreams next weekend. Glad you pointed out the rock formations by name. I also loved the video you made of Chaco ruins so ill be going there as well. You videos are very professional and informative. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
What a great location and video. A "premium fuel" engine will only deliver it's maximum advertised torque and power using the design octane fuel. Some engines designed for premium will deliver slightly better mpg on premium vs regular. Sometimes cost per mile for fuel is the same due to efficiency gains. Sometimes not. Modern engines have technology that adjusts the engine tuning to protect itself if a lower octane fuel is used. Olden days engines did not have knock sensing technology and can be damaged by allowing excessive "pinging" running fuel that is too low "octane".
It has to be the alien throne! But, I also enjoyed all of the others! Like the wing you hiked to was pretty incredible too! Definitely added the badlands of New Mexico to my must see list! I'm a huge fan of petrified wood also! When you were walking next to that perfect log I thought you were going to not touch it and literally said out loud toch it! 😂

Only American history that makes any sense to me...ty☺
Cool!
Wow, thank you!
I just want to remind everyone not to climb on, or even sit on (👆) the formations.
Thanks for the info!
The yellow berries are the dried fruit of silver leaf nightshade, Solanum elaeagnifolium
Thanks for the info!👍
Which is actually related to a tomato. 😃
Don't eat them. You can make cheese out of them
I have seen that in Zion.
Poisonous

Agreed. It's a long way to here from anywhere!
Felt like you were on a different planet. What an amazing place. Again, thanks for taking us with you on this unique adventure. Keep ‘em coming!
Definitely feels alien! Thanks for watching, Susan.
Oh! You,ve been at Bisti. Thank you so much!
According to the click and clack brothers on NPR, there’s no difference.
Your videos are the favorite part of my weekends! Thank-you!
That's great to hear! Thanks Cecelia 😁
I look forward to your videos every Saturday morning! Thank you for sharing our beautiful country!
Hey Tristan, you're like the brother I never had. U rock. Thank you so much for taking me on so many adventures with you. Your solo hiking must be heavenly. I enjoy doing the same. Keep on making great videos and I'll keep watching them.
This is an incredible site. There are so many spectacularly eroded places in the 4-corners area!
Wow! What a gorgeous area. Thanks for taking us along Tristan. Really appreciate all you do!
Thanks for tagging along!
I'm really happy to see more NM content. It definitely has it own personality. ..and the best food.
Wow, thank you.
What a unique place. And you, Tristan, are best narrator which helps make your video so special. Plus, you find all these neat places!!!! 😀🙏
Thanks Lynn 😁
I suggested this place to you a few months ago and you responded back. Glad you made it there. That place is unreal in person
It's been on the list for a while!
The 'alien throne' echoes forms Antoni Gaudi used in his Barcelona buildings! The large petrified tree makes you realize this surreal area was once much wetter. Thanks!
Yes. A 40 minute walk to that would be worth it. 😁 Bisti Badlands are amazing. 👍
Yep, it was worth it 👍 Thanks for watching
100% agree. That is the most amazing set of rock formations I've ever seen. I see hundreds of fantastic photos at every turn.
Silverleaf nightshade is a common weed of the Southwest that is starting to become popular as plant used in xeriscape gardens. I just returned from the Bisti / Ah she sli pa / Chaco area, what an amazing area.

6:35 Hi Tristen, @ 6:35 this rock formation looks like a woman with long hair or a braid sitting looking into the distance.😊

Sorry, I meant METHANOL, not ethanol, as what yellow HEET is. Old folks call it "dry gas", although sometimes ethanol is called that also.
Looks like bones sticking up out of the ground. I guess once there were giant trees in that area? Now they are rocks.
You can tell that at one time long ago there was water flowing thru that area. So cool how we have petrified trees! Really neat area to visit.
One of my most favorite hikes in NM! I am always amazed at the colors the "desert" can display. Every time I go I find a new amazement. Truly otherworldly.

I love your adventures and how you explain things!
I absolutely love ❤️ this!! This would be a great place to film 🎞️ like a sci-fi movie 🍿!! So surreal! Bless your heart ♥️ you have made my day !!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video! The rock formations & topography are astounding. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventures!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I appreciate you watching.
The plant is probably Solanum elaeagnifolium, silverleaf nightshade. It is quite common in New Mexico.
A new term: Swiss Cheesiest! Those rock formations were just incredible! This was so fun to watch. Thank you!!!
I think this is definitely one of the coolest place by far! So otherworldly!
That's a good word for it! 👽
Beautiful & very unusual rock formations! Loved Valley of Dreams. Hope none of the earth destroyers like to hike & come trash this natural beauty of Mother Earth. Thanks for the trip Tristan. 😊👍🏻

Awesome. Putting regular gas in your vehicle once in a while, like an emergency will not be an issue. However doing it often or all the time, will cause engine breakdown eventually.
Wow!!! Two great videos in a row! Love these landscapes.
My Lexus sedan recommends premium but I run mid-grade and on rare occasion regular in it without problem. It's never been an issue.
Thank you Tristan! I just finished it! Sorry for delay!❤️😀🌏🇺🇸
What a unique landscape.
What a wonderland of shapes-and nice & lonely thanks for taking us along 😍
Wow, you find and show us the most unusual and distinct places on Earth! And they are ALL HERE IN THE USA! THANK YOU!
Great video and location. The rock garden is amazing.

I'm in Farmington now... the river is rising
Lots of fun things to do in the area!
My hometown!
"like a diamond set in a ring" Great allusion, Tristan. It does look like that.
Usually at higher elevations, vehicles need lower octane. So you are probably okay with regular gas.

Thank You Tristan! Stayed under cox canyon arch last night. It was dreamy.
This place was insanely cool. It was so surreal. Thanks for showing us.
some weird stuff, cool place, thanks
Excellent alien landscapes; the tumbleweeds at the beginning reminded me of a Outer Limits episode(way back) that we’re alive. Less octane can damage the engine, the booster was fine😎🤣🤩⭐️⭐️
The bigger worry about gas is rural stations with few customers. Old gas will do more damage than gas with a few points lower octane.
what a cool place, thanks again for taking me along !!!
Neat place, thanks for taking us along.
Great video as usual, Tristan! Your calm and reverent presentations of nature make the virtual adventures so enjoyable. You're like if Mr. Rogers ventured out into the Great Outdoors. I hope you take that as a compliment. 👍🙏😉😊
What a cool location! Definitely adding it to my "must visit" list! Thanks for another great vid!
What a strange and unique landscape. Very otherworldly! Thanks for the tour! You rock.....literally 😊
Thanks for watching!
Just a great video!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Walking on an ancient ocean floor. So beautiful
Such amazing adventures. One of my top 3 channels related to to camping, hiking, van life and Suv adventures
It's nice to learn about place in NM I didn't know about.
Beautiful video, thank you for the excellent information, what a spectacular location!!
Don't worry about not using the premium gas. You just got 12.5 to 12.9 mpg versus the 14 to 15 mpg. My Sequoia is the same engine and drivetrain.
Thank you for showing me these places. Awesome. Thanks.
Love that geology and thanks for taking us all there.
I just added this to my list of MUST hikes. Thanks! 😊
Cool. Have you been on top of Helper Utah mountain. It's called balance rock. I have been up there on a boy scout trip back in the 90s. A latter is on the east side and you can come down down on the west side where the highway 6 is.
Really neat footage in this! Love all of those crazy rocks!!
Mother nature is allways up with a surprise. Also providing shelter from the rain. Thank you for showing things like this.
Thanks for watching!

Wow!
Most amazing video! I love love love your adventures, especially since I’m unable to make my own! Thank you!
You take us to the most fascinating places!!!
I try!
Thank you for sharing Tristan, awesome rock formations!
That’s a really cool place. I have never seen pictures of this before. Awesome hoodoos. Be safe and happy trials 👍😎👍

glad it was a little overcast, so everything seemed to shoe up better
Plant looks like horse nettle. Not edible, but pretty "fruits".
Great video, as usual. Loved the rocks!

I've driven that road many times between Farmington and Albuquerque, I didn't know those unusual sites existed.
I love the desert and rocks. Enjoy your videos so much. What a fabulous place
You're ok on the occasional lower octane fuel. Mix in some premium when you can and you'll be fine.
Thank you, Tristan. Valley of "Nightmares"... incredible! Could you have driven to Valley of Dreams in your RAV4?
You go to the coolest places Tristan❤

thanks for sharing, nice landscapes, enjoyed the drone's eye view...
