    Modest Mouse is the only band to make your depression worse, yet be kind enough to help you through the roughest patches.

      So true especially when he said he wrote "float on" as a response to critics saying their music was too depressing... lol it's a great song but really it's just as depressing as everything else.

    My son played this song on his keyboard and sent it to me in 2008 along with the original. He was out of the country studying abroad. He passed away in 2014 from opiates, my god he loved Modest Mouse.

    This song was shown to me by someone I love with all of my heart. I got him clean and spent every single day with him for months. He ended up dying in an accident on January 12th
    This is our song...
    Im going to visit his grave in May and I'm playing this for him on my guitar one last time

    This song will forever take me back to when i was 14-16, chilling with my best friend who now lives 600 miles away. When we had no cares in the world, spending the majority of our time together exploring this world. What I would give to go back to those days for just a little while.

      I'd give the rest of my life for one day back when life was, i dunno, fucking awesome I guess. No money, shwag weed, big dreams, old 70's car (in mid 90's) you had to enter through the window, Not that everything was perfect, but thinking back, they were as good as it gets. the biggest thing was the friends. where did every one go? did they just get old, like me? when did it end? It's too bad all good things must come to an end, and it sucks that it's always too soon. When I go to bed I always make a wish, to go back in time in a dream. It often works. Sometimes it works so well I want to cry when I wake up, of happiness. That's the only way to go back in time I think. If I didn't have those dreams, I don't think I'd stick around. But that's just me.

      Alexandre Ginnsz Reading this comment made me realize how much I need to appreciate the small things in life, instead of hoping for bigger, better things. I'm only 18 so I can't pretend I know what it's like to be old, but I know I'm not getting any younger, and from here onward life will never be the same as now. I hope someday you manage to find happiness in reality, because this comment has opened my eyes to do the same. And until that day comes for you, I wish you the best of dreams.

    I have always thought that a guitarist that can make a simple riff sound amazing is a better guitarist than one who can make a complicated riff sound alright. Isaac is the master of making simple riffs into audible gold. Dramamine is a perfect example of his ability to do this.

    I believe Modest Mouse as a group has been thru so many moments in life and their experiences overall are the lyrics that are misunderstood to many except the handful of people that get it and can relate. I have made some bad decisions in my past as far as when I was finding myself and that struggle throughout the process was me to begin with. When I was trying to understand the person starring back in the reflection in the mirror. I was looking for the answer and it was right there all along. I had been letting this confusing society/world get to me and take over who I am. In the days long before I was confused and now it is all making sense because I wanted it to. I took the steps to make it that way the best way I could. So, with that being said, Modest Mouse as a group seems like they are trying to make sense out of what they have been thru via the lyrics, the beat, the way of how I feel and think so much when I listen to a tune from them.

    Reminds me of summer 2016. I hung out with the same 3 or 4 friends like every day and it was beautiful. My friend asked me to learn this song on guitar because it was one of her favorites. I just remembered this one today and thought of her. I've reached out a couple times since then but no luck. Guess that's how it goes sometimes. Maybe I'll see her again one day. I really miss her. She was one of my best friends. It always stayed platonic which was the best part for me. We could just be real with each other and never had to worry about the impression we made. We got along well and I loved those times together.

  • @kylebroussard5952

    This song reminds me of coming down off of shrooms for the first time. Driving home after a 6 hour trip where I spent all my time in the woods, alone, marveling at the beauty I had never taken the time to see in the simplicity of the world - feeling and experiencing the true power of the human brain and the immense amount of phenomena around us we fail to perceive. Only to realize as soon as I got home, all of that would fade, and slowly I would fall back into place - words came back to the forefront of all interactions, manmade things became real again, and slowly my sensory dulled back to its base level.
    The serenity in realizing the beauty around us, but simultaneously coming to the realization that alone, I could probably never appreciate it for what it truly is on a consistent basis without completely ostracizing myself from all that is modern life... that feeling forever lingers with me, the way this song just patters on in repetition. It's like being lost, but found at the same time, in a cycle. Never knowing where you're going, or where you are, only that you belong somewhere else.

    Travelling swallowing Dramamine
    Feeling spaced breathing out Listerine
    I'd said what I'd said that I'd tell ya
    And that you'd killed the better part of me
    If you could just milk it for everything
    I've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
    But I still can't focus on anything
    We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves
    Travelling swallowing Dramamine
    Look at your face like you're killed in a dream
    And you think you've figured out everything
    I think I know my geography pretty damn well
    You say what you need so you'll get more
    If you could just milk it for everything
    I've said what I said and you know what I mean
    But I can't still focus on anything

    The absolute most beautiful song put out by man. But can we really say man, since Isaac Brock appears more and more like a god? With exception to their newest track, this band has showed over and over that it digs from an indefatigable source of creativity and originality. These guys are here for you for the best and worst times, always playing a melody to haunt your mind as the days and years pass by. Compliments to the maker of this video, it fit this song better than perfect, and compliments to the band themselves; this track fucking rocks.

    • @crewskater06
      @crewskater06 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +noah kologinski What newest track are you referring to? I take it you didn't like their new album?

    • @Abraxas948
      @Abraxas948 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +crewskater06 Modest Mouse is one of my favorite, if not my favorite band of all time. Maybe it's just because I love their old stuff too much or I'm just hostile to music produced in this terrible day and age, but there was something missing for me there. They really changed as a group with the Good news for people who love bad news and with We were dead before the ship even sank, but I kinda liked it then. Of course, nothing sounds better to me than Dramamine, custom concern, styrofoam boots, polar opposites, wild pack of family dogs (I like the live version), etc, but I had enjoyed them evolving as a group. But with this new album I'm really on the fence about it. It's got some catchy sounds to it but the songwriting just can't compare to Isaac's older stuff. I just fear they're dabbling into the mainstream sound a bit, but maybe them just switching things up. Either way, I find their older tunes to be a lot more enjoyable than their newer stuff

    • @crewskater06
      @crewskater06 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      noah kologinski I can understand where you're coming from. New music by anyone rarely sounds as good as their old stuff. Modest did lose their bassist Eric Judy right before the release of their newest album which might be the cause of their new direction/sound. I feel as if this album reaches their roots more than the last one. For example in ground walks with time in a box, you can hear the Dramamine sound at the end of the song. There's also lots of references existentialism which is usually Isaac's theme. Hopefully the album will grow on you like it did for me.

    "Bad song on mushrooms"
    Ok listen ... A bad trip on shrooms is nothing compared to the paranoia and dysphoria created by dph and dipenhydramine. That's what this song is about. Taking more than the recommended dose of dramamine to get high. You get spacy and confused and hallucinate--not like psychedelic hallucination though. Like realistic hallucinations. And you enter a state of delerium. That's exactly what the song is portraying.
