    Rocky and Erik’s comments are spot-on. I was mildly apprehensive the first time I wore my kilt in public. I went to an upscale bar. A female server called out from 20 feet away, “Nice kilt!” ❤️
    I went from “mildly apprehensive” to “perfectly comfortable” in 37 nanoseconds. 👍🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    I started with my first kilt 5 years ago at a Renaissance Faire and had so many positive comments I was amazed. Two years later I was performing at Renfaires as 'The Auld Celt" thanks to some wonderful people I had met who ran one. No Faires in our area this year due to covid and I had just started at senior centers and retirement homes when social distancing shut that down. I have been kilting on regularly and started visiting a large flea market (several thousand people on a weekend) where I am now recognized and welcomed in one of my five kilts. Never heard a negative comment from anyone and the ladies do indeed love'em! Like Rocky said, "Just DO IT!!!".

I got so many positive looks and also found numerous fellow American Scot heritage immigrants. One cousin told me to go all out & wear it all the time. Great advice from USA Kilts. The message is, get out and wear a kilt if you want to, it's a very practical item of clothing that feels different, but a whole lot better than trousers, shorts etc. You will only need to master kilt etiquette, like keeping your knees together when sitting etc. although that actually helps with your deportment, just ask a woman! I'm a piper so I'm used to it but never forget how good it feels wearing a kilt, in fact it's a privilege. I have ten kilts and two pairs of tartan trews I wear for various occasions, mainly heavy weight and made-to-measure, together with tweed jackets, vests and evening wear with is incredibly smart.
    It does take a while to gather confidence wearing a kilt in public because you're not used to it, but you have to remember no one actually thinks it strange at all. Quite the contrary, you will have to get used to to men and women (especially women) approaching you giving the greatest compliments, which you may never had experienced about your appearance before.
    Yes, you eventually get used to that too, it's tough being admired so much!

    • @davidmaule3266

      @maxwellfan55 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmaule3266 That rather depends on what angle the camera is facing or who is looking where, so in this video these guys are ok. Keeping your knees together (yes it can be done) is the fail safe way, the advice I took from women who know about these things.
      No-on wants to see your bits, neither do you when you look at the photograph afterwards with your mates.

    the words 'JUST DO IT' is key to getting comfortable wearing a kilt... It does help if you are Scottish or of Scottish descent, but is not the main factor, the thing I keep reminding myself is that it is considered "MENS" attire by the public, it is true that I get a lot of good comments, I have been wearing Kilts for every day wear now for about 2 months, I have had so many new (good) experiences in my life that at this time I cannot imagen going back to pants... I do not own any utility kilts, but am looking to get one some day... I currently own about 6 kilts and have more on order... I am all in on this.... JUST DO IT! .... you won't regret it.

    Hey Rocky and the gang, love this video that you put out 2 years ago.
    As far as wearing kilts, you folks should really listen to Rocky because he makes a lot of sense.
    Ever since I was a kid growing up I always thought that kilts were cool, and as I got older. Bought my first Kilt from stumptown kilts, and love wearing it all the time.
    But the very first guilt that I ever had was given to me as a gift, and that was the Spartan kill period from utilikilts in Seattle Washington, it took me about a year before I could actually get it altered and fixed and I wear it like I wear the ones from Utah kills.
    Every time I go into Knoxville Tennessee, I'm always finding one or two people that just love the Kilt, and a matter of fact I had one young lady at trader Joe's says you rock that kills.
    Like you said Rocky it's a mindset thing, and I do get people asking me questions from time to time
    And on that note you guys at USA kilts you guys rock

    I always laugh when I hear someone say "a guy in a skirt, how messed up are you?"
    My response is normally along the lines "I can wear this because I'm sure of who I am and completely certain about my sexuality, it's a shame that it makes you confused about yours.....but hey, that's your problem, not mine."
    You want to wear a kilt, get it on ! ! !

    Did we have Kilts in Ireland back in 1972. LOL
    I remember my first time seeing men wear kilts.
    They were the "strange" nationalist in my local village. They would march up and down the village on certain days like St Patrick's day, Easter Sunday etc. That was way back in the 1960's.

    I first wore my (utility) kilt in public to my HEMA (historical European martial arts) classes. But that really only half counts as some other's in the club were modern versions of 15th century pants so we make an odd looking group none the less. The first time I wore it in general public was we were in a long heat wave and I just stopped caring and wore it to my college classes. From that point on it was fairly regular to see me in it and as you said mostly positive feed back from it. Now I just need to get more then the one.

    I live in Pataskala, Ohio, (20 miles East of Columbus). I went out in my kilt today (MacLean of Duart Modern Dress). I visited four stores making sure I walked all over each store. Most people didn't even acknowledge that I was even there, much less wearing a kilt. It wasn't until I got to the last store, (Lowes) before somebody said anything and then it was Very positive compliments. Kudos to the folks at Lowes for that! So yeah, like Rocky & Eric said; "Just do it! There's Nothing to it. It's a road block the size of a paperclip." Doesn't take much to get over that. Oh yes I complemented a well dressed Gentleman, (My Senior) at Half Priced Books on his Plaid Button up Shirt because it was almost a dead match for my Tartan. (Imagine the odds). I think he rather enjoyed the compliment, I told him it was a very hansom shirt and he looked very smart in it! So I guess as I am writing this I am feeling pretty good about myself. I was a proper "Kilted Ambassador" today, And when you kilt up, you can be too! MAJOR KUDOS to USA Kilts!!! For doing what you do best.

    I wore a kilt the first time in Vegas, to a ren faire. Went to the bar afterwards and everyone was cool, except one older lady who thought she would check if i had anything on under. She was sitting in low booth that i was standing next to so it wasn't a flagrant lifting of the kilt, more like a sneaky move. I didn't know her though so she got a stern look and finder wag.

      If you think you can't afford one you are mistaken . If you really want one...and I include an 8 yard wool kilt as well then stop buying a takeout coffee everyday for a year and put that money in a kilt jar instead . If people add up what they throw away everyday on inexpensive treats they would be surprised at what they have spent at the end of a year . I would rather have a kilt than 300 cups of coffee that I can make at home . I use coffee as an example . Everyone has their treat they can do without for the sake of saving money !

      @@rickmoore3730 Far be it to tell someone else how to spend their money but I tend to agree, it's a matter of priorities. If USA Kilts can offer a light weight kilt for 120 dollars then it's affordable, and as you say, just sacrifice something you don't really need and save.
      Yes, I still strongly recommend a heavier wool kilt any day, particularly if you intend you get good use from it, because it should last a lifetime. But there's no harm in starting inexpensive to discover if a kilt suits the wearer which it always will-once you have the confidence (which comes quick and fast with the compliments!).

    Broached wearing the great kilt in public today for the first time, got wolf whistled, LOL, I hardly even know how to put one on yet... But as you say the mental curve is only so big... even though this ain't America, no-one in my town wears a kilt casually, in fact I've never seen anyone in my whole country wearing a kilt for casual day-wear, ahh they'll get over it...

      @@tacticalministries3508 The Scots culture did indeed come from Ireland, but much like any migration and cultural change the people themselves don't really change much. The Picts, weren't replaced wholesale by a Gaelic population, it was a combination of migration and cultural synthesis.

    • @galoglaich3281
      @galoglaich3281 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mel Beasley Thats a load of bs ,the vast majority of those tartans are for the american market,the local population of these countries don't know these tartans exist. County identity is a big thing in ireland and each county has a representative gaelic sports team which most of the county supports,so if county tartans were a genuine manifestation of irish culture,you would see Croke park 82300 fulll of county tartans on all ireland final day which of course is not the case.

    • @galoglaich3281
      @galoglaich3281 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mel Beasley I have no objection to anyone wearing these tartans so long as they know that they are not really intwined into the culture they supposedly represent.Maybe it is the case welsh people are latching onto the kilt good luck to them,but in ireland i see no evidence of any interest in kilts or tartans

    The fact is we wish people were more complicit or at least seeing new things of others as normal *because we're all different* but as long as mankind walked the earth after Adam and Eve ate forbidden fruit, low self-esteem was norm during all of human history & so they'll think you have some kind of that, *and that's* what human morbidity finds as an interesting story.

    Well the question I have is I am interested in wearing a kilt but how in this day and age do you have the confidence to go Camando in a garb with "easy access". Because as I see it all you need is someone calling you a perv and getting police involved then you end up on some sex offender list because some mellenial figured you shouldn't be wearing that

      First, going commando is optional. When wearing the kilt, I'll go commando under some circumstances, and wear some undergarments in other circumstances. I would recommend adjusting to the circumstances. (e.g. If you're going to the local nursing home to spend the afternoon climbing up ladders to hang decorations, you might want to wear something under the kilt.) Second, people's assumptions might not match reality. One evening, my wife overheard a gentleman SWEAR that I wasn't wearing anything under my kilt. But on that evening, I was. (We were out dancing, and I assumed my kilt would swirl up when I spun, so I wore a little something underneath.) Third, the gentleman who assumed I was commando was either a Boomer or ... er ... what's the generation that's older than Boomers? He was definitely ~50 years older than a millennial. (I'm Gen X. My wife is a Boomer.) Fourth, if the police want to look under my kilt, they better have a court order (regardless of what I may or may not be wearing under it). Though, after wearing my kilt a couple hundred (or so) times in public, I consider a police inquiry to be an unlikely consequence during a day/night out. I live in Houston (southern, but not a small town). My primary experience from wearing a kilt (in Houston and other urban centers) is that people pretend to be too cosmopolitan to pay any attention to the kilt. The few people who comment are usually making positive comments.

    Just wear your kilt when and where you like, it's male clothing, invented in Lancashire in 1715,ano the scots don't like the fact it was invented by an Englishman, but then I'm English, from Lancashire, live with it, your problem, not mine! 😂
