Oh, one of my absolute favorite songs! So hard and energetic.
I grew up in West Germany and for a long time I thought it was about the destructive relationship between two people. Then I shared my thoughts with my best friend, who grew up in East Germany. She looked at me in surprise at first, then with a knowing smile. That's when the penny dropped for me what it was really about. Because suddenly one or two lines of the lyrics made more sense.
It's about the GDR. Or rather, what it was like to grow up in it if you didn't agree with the circumstances.(A six band members grew up in the GDR)
The surveillance (I'll always be with you), no freedom to travel (with your feet in the cement), seeing how things are improving economically in the other part (there will be a garden outside).
So yes, in a way suffocating. A destructive relationship.
    With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻

You (actually she) really opened my eyes !
I always thought as (I believe many) others that it's about a toxic relationship between an extremely possessive man and a submissive woman or a child wife. He doesn't actually k*ll her , but it's as if he did.
To make the point even more horrible , he sings this type of topics (Wiener blut , e.g., and more) in FIRST person.
But this makes even more sense for half a nation under a sadistic rule. You had to have lived there to understand it.
And that is Till's poetry : many people will find different meanings , and it all can be correct. He truly is an artist.

    🪨 STONE BY STONE 🪨
    I have plans big plans
I'm going to build you a house
Every stone will be a tear
And you'll never move out again
Yes, I'm going to build a little house for you
    With no windows no doors
    It'll be dark inside
No light will get in at all
Yes, I'll make you a home
And you are to be a part of it all
Stone by Stone I wall you in
    Stone by Stone
    I'll always be with you
    Without clothes without shoes
    You watch me working
    With your feet in cement
    You brighten up the foundation
Outside, there will be a garden
And no one will hear you scream
Stone by Stone I wall you in
    Stone by Stone
    I'll always be with you
    I'll always be with you
What a pounding what a hammering
Outside, it starts to get dark
All of the nails stand at attention
When I ram them into your body-wood
    Stone!
Stone by Stone I wall you in
Stone by Stone I wall you in
Stone by Stone I wall you in
Stone by Stone, and nobody will hear you scream

My favorite song. For me, the one who stands in the cement and the one who builds are the same person. “Every stone is a tear": or conversely, with every tear I build my protective wall higher and higher. “... Has no windows no door": everyone can see the house, but ‘I’ won't let anyone in. “Inside it will be dark...": does this really mean the room or sadness and loneliness? “You shall be part of the whole.... I will always be with you": you split your personality and show a little ‘plaster’ to the outside, but you hide the real core behind walls = foundation. “Without clothes without shoes you watch me work": you build walls because otherwise you feel naked/unprotected, but you know exactly that this leads to loneliness = darkness. “Nobody hears you scream": you scream inside, but nobody sees/hears it. For me, this song gives a picture of a very big inner restlessness. On the one hand, you don't want to be locked up and alone, on the other hand, you feel unprotected/naked, so you force yourself behind walls. The bigger the wall becomes, the greater the suffering/scream. The song also begins more slowly, more calmly and becomes more restless “stone by stone”, until at the end you are just screaming, but the house is already finished (too late). “What a knocking, what a hammering outside, it's starting to dawn.” You slowly realize that it wasn't a good idea to bury yourself behind walls (it dawns). This part of yourself that you have buried deep inside you wants to come out: “All the nails stand firm when I hammer them into your body.” Your own body as a coffin? Is something perhaps trying to get out? Or is it about self-harm? Richard's solo seems to me to be more about this inner restlessness/scream and Till's reaction to the suffering and pain caused by this inner scream. The whole performance doesn't seem to me to be the narrative of a crime novel. The expressions on Paul and Richard's faces also show pain rather than darkness. I don't think this song is about two different people, but rather about inner conflict. But that's just my interpretation.

Rammstein fairly often write lyrics about dark and/or taboo topics, including paedophilia in church, homosexuality, suicide, cannibalism, parental abuse, insanity and so on and so forth. Fortunately the lyrics, videos, and shows they put on are entertainment purposes only, and they are in fact not sick in the head.

    • @hrma6313
      @hrma6313 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's about condemnation of the topic - he sings in first person - e.g. : "I built a love nest under the house ... where you will learn about DARKNESS , LONELINESS , SORROW for an ETERNITY... and then rapes his daughter for 24 years.
If he sang to a T.S. tune "there was one nasty man who was behaving badly with his daughter" etc. etc. , people would have waved their hands and lighted their phones saying "thoughts and prayers" and go home.
Singing "I DID THIS"... Till rubs the ugly truth in your face , the horror becomes more personal.
