MAGDEBURG: “People were knocked over like matches!” How the survivors of the attack are doing!
In Magdeburg, public cultural institutions will remain closed in the coming days following the alleged attack on the Christmas market. As a sign of mourning, all municipal cultural institutions, including the theater, the puppet theater and the museums, will remain closed, the city announced on Saturday. The closure will apply for “the coming days” - the city did not provide any further details.
Two people were killed and more than 60 injured in the attack by a man with a car at the Magdeburg Christmas market. The city administration asked the population to avoid the entire area around the crime scene, the Old Market, as much as possible.
The city also announced that it would create a place in front of the west portal of Magdeburg's Johanniskirche where people could pause to reflect and thus mourn and lay flowers in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene. A memorial service will take place in Magdeburg Cathedral on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
