My hat is off to you. In 1980 I started as a field technician for DEC. Loved hardware stuff but moved over to software, programming, and databases. One of the things that made me stay away from networking was the rate of change. I never felt I could keep up. Some of the fundamentals stayed the same but going from DECnet to Broadband to TCP/IP, Thicknet, Thinnet, Token Ring. Argggg. Networking is almost a calling, and I don't have it. Smiley face. One of my problems is being spread between working on too many things. It's hard to focus on going deep on learning things. I'm guessing you might have that as well. More power to you Tom. If I come across any Cisco stuff my company is getting rid of, I'll let you know.
Don’t forget Arcnet! When I started in 1992 there was still a lot of those topologies out there. I did mostly thinnet Ethernet with netx early in my career though.
