It wasn't until I clicked on the link for that I thought it be a NIN cover. I fuckin' love NIN and this is an amazing cover, Fightstar is a great band. \m/
i just love the guitar in this! i think some of you should stop criticising the other covers though because they are all done in different ways and they are all brilliant!
Think its a good cover, and the best i've heard. (mainly because i'm not much for Cash) there are probably better covers out there, that i just haven't heard. But the point that i actually want to make, is that if you for some reason don't like the music, or you have bad things to say about it, please, just mobe along. There's no need for stating your opinion, you are not forced to fo anything. Give good comments, or put up ideas for what could have been better instead. It's limited how many p
People trying to compare different covers is not the way to go. Every cover of a song is so different you take something different from it. Cash's you get the feeling of regret and reflection and the tragic end of his life. Fightstar you get the idea of hurting people you love and the regret that comes with it. The original you get the feeling of a drug abuse gone bad. Cover versions are not there to be compared but held in there own right.
Johnny Cash sang this amazing nobody can change that, but thahts because the past relation with the song gives it a stronger bond with peoples minds. Fightstar did a cover because Charlie is a big fan of this song, so i don't understand the critisism. He loves a great song so much he did a cover on it!!
This is a great cover by Fightstar, one of my favourite bands and can't wat to see Charlie live in March with his solo stuff. Johnny Cash still has the best version even if it is a NIN song. 1.Johnny Cash 2.Fightstar 3.NIN
@Weebleworm yes, it was the last song Johnny Cash sang before he died, in 2000, Nine inch nails wrote it on thier 1994 album the downward spiral, i like johnny Cash, but please dont belittle me by saying that im an idiot, when clearly johnny Cash died in 2003, and Nine Inch Nails wrote it in 1994
I love Fightstar and i love the song Hurt but i dont think play it as good as i thought they would, i think Johnny Cash's version was pretty good, as for NiN didnt live their Album version, but theres a live version they have on youtube and i think its the best version ever, so much emotion in it, but still i do like this Fightstar take, just thought it woulda been slightly better
its not a bad cover, there have been loads of covers and if i was to rate the top 3 versions of the song this would definately make it after NIN and Johnny Cash. Its very different from the other two and a good song but i would find it really hard to say that it was better than Cashs version and it cant be compared to NINs version, which is by far the best version of the song
I wish ppl would stop calling it ' the NIN version'; it is not a version; it is the original. The others were 'versions' or the original NIN masterpiece.
I have no idea what you are replying to or if you're right but I have to say that yeah, you win, you are the king/queen of all, your comments rule all and everyone will now shut up.. lolz... grow up...
Music tastes are dictated on what a person necesseraly likes. Therefore it changes from, person to person. IF you dont like this music then move on and dont criticise the other side. the only reason you should have for being able to call music shit is if someone WANTS your opinion (which we dont btw) Or if someone is playing it in ear shot of you. Therefore dont complain about getting flamed. Just move on. Because to *US* This is GOOD music
i dont like this version, but they have put effort in you can tell and they have given it their 'fightstar' touch, like johnny cash gave it his. I love charlie's voice tho, its really original, and powerful!
Fightstars version is better than NIN's version, but not as good as Johnny Cash's, mainly because Johnnys version had pain and suffering in his voice, his voice was old an decrepid, when the concept of the song was ''everyone i know goes away in the end'' and the end for him beckoned him. Its an emotional song, one of my favourites for life. I want it to be played at my funeral
This is a good cover, but anyone who's saying it's better than the johnny cash version is crazy. When Johnny Cash sung it, it was like him apologizing for all the bad things he did in his life, and all the people he hurt and pushed away as a result. Johnny Cash covered this song because he knew he was dying from his addictions. He lived fast and died in a lot of pain. I'm not saying this version is bad, i'm just saying it cant compare because it doesn't have that same meaning.
as good as Cash's and this one are, i don't think anyone can beat NIIN's... it's so powerful and haunting... and such an explosive ending... unbeatable
to be fair there are two singers in fightstar. i think charlies voice is the strongest by far. it doesnt really work with this song, it needs to be softer. think they did a much better cover of breaking the law. charlie loves this song though. its only natural that hed want to cover it, and really whats the point of a cover if ur just gonna copy a version that already exists. you need to bring something new to it and they did.
I don't think this is the best cover of hurt i have heard, but that doesn't make it bad in anyway... Fightstar is a decent band... Also I didn't get "butthurt" and if what i typed there made you think that then you really need to pay more attention to what i wrote... Also what in your opinion is decent music really? Because i consider my music choices to be fairly decent
charlies voice isnt awful. in ur opinion maybe. but its a matter of opinion. there are people like you who dont like it but also people who love it and prefer it to anyone elses voice in the world. everyone likes different things. anyway im a huge fightstar fan and i admit this is there worst cover. all there other covers are awesome though and there an awesome band in my opinion. theres more than enough proof of that in there other covers and lots of ther own stuff. in my opinion.
Why the hell are you going on about Charlie Simpson trying to be cool? He is already cool, he's in a wicked metal band. Nothing wrong. Why do you think Johnny Cash's cover get the recognition over Fightstars?
yeah people often bitch that either nine inch nails or johnny cash's version is better. I see it like this though each song is comprised of exactly the same lyrics but the singing style in each is so unique that each convey different emotions.... it ounds bollocks i know I'm rap at putting thoughts into words both songs are different but equally brilliant... and this.... good but not great.
failure. Cash wasn't seeking sympathy. And I'm willing to bet people will remember Cash FAR longer than Fightstar. I would consider this a textbook example of how to 'butcher' an incredible song.
Isn't the whole lyrics of the song emotional anyway? So couldn't you call nine inch nails and johnny cash 'emos'?? And it's better showing emotion than heartless lyrics, if you don't like Fightstar, don't listen to them and keep your negativity somewhere else..
The post at the top of this is really confusing when you look it at against this. Your a huge fan but Charlie's voice is awful, this is pathetic, and your angry people like this shit? I quite like it, but I prefer their covers of in between days and the days i recall being wondeful, which is better than the original. Fair enough you have your opinion, but you seem to contradict yourself a bit.
I think this is a really creative cover of this song and it doesnt sound much like either the Johnny Cash version or the NIN original.
This is a good cover, I feel the rawness and emotion.
When Chaz starts to sing, god, it feels like the best voice on the world!
LIA eres la mejor gracias por mostrarme esta banda ..
I wish this existed in good quality, it's so fucking good.
💯 Get requesting it on Patreon! He's taking requests right now and doing studio versions so let's get on it and make it happen!
the bass legend finally has something productive to say about music
It wasn't until I clicked on the link for that I thought it be a NIN cover. I fuckin' love NIN and this is an amazing cover, Fightstar is a great band. \m/
that's hilarious!
awesome song!!!!!!!! 5 stars and favorited
i just love the guitar in this! i think some of you should stop criticising the other covers though because they are all done in different ways and they are all brilliant!

i soo agree, i love them, there old stuff is really deep

great song, great cover-version
it would be great if the band publish the ong as a b-side on one of their next singles

Being the original doesn't stop it being a version. Granted, it's the original version of the song. The key word in that sentence is version though
NIN > cash > lewis > this
I cannot remember completley but ever since I read that is how I've remember what he said, but I may be wrong
I have no idea what you are replying to or if you're right but I have to say that yeah, you win, you are the king/queen of all, your comments rule all and everyone will now shut up..

NINE INCH NAILS THE BEST! ALWAYS!
LOL, i love it when people get owned :)
i dont like this version, but they have put effort in you can tell and they have given it their 'fightstar' touch, like johnny cash gave it his. I love charlie's voice tho, its really original, and powerful!
the guitar rules....infact...the whole song rules
Fightstar just rockoutloud.
mmm cant beat nine ich nails:/
or cash but this is my 3rd fav:)
btw dw i like fightstar
screw if charlie was in busted. fightstar make good music:)
Death car is my fav song other to this ^.^
always a pleasure
the chorus in this is soo heavy.
much better than that johnny cash dude
haha only winding people up really, although i do have issue with this particular song. good points though simon
i like all versions of the song. NIN is the original..the OG..cash's version is great and this one is fresh
This is an awesome cover from an awesome band. You want butchered, check out Leona Lewis' cover.
Were can i Get this version ?? 'Cause i've been looking everywhere.
@WoodenPotatoes Yeah, it moves into the direction of "mediocre" and "boring". This is within the same arena as Nickleback.
this song is so depressing...
Fightstars version is better than NIN's version, but not as good as Johnny Cash's, mainly because Johnnys version had pain and suffering in his voice, his voice was old an decrepid, when the concept of the song was ''everyone i know goes away in the end'' and the end for him beckoned him. Wow and I thought JR Blastoff was bad
I prefer NIN version to JC's, at first I didn't but it grew on me.
I think thats the first positive response i have ever got lol
anyone have a link to get this on mp3 perchance?
This is way overcompressed.
It's washing into itself.
This is a good cover, but anyone who's saying it's better than the johnny cash version is crazy.

I'm not saying this version is bad, i'm just saying it cant compare because it doesn't have that same meaning.
So NIN nails did first, then Cash then Fighstar?
@Superally333 The only feeling of hurt I get from this cover is me. I'm hurt that such a travesty fucking exists.
@therealmistman Cash>this> NIN
Its good but it sounds like he's trying to sing like Trent. He should add his own flare to it like Johnny Cash did.
as good as Cash's and this one are, i don't think anyone can beat NIIN's... it's so powerful and haunting... and such an explosive ending... unbeatable
despite the fact trent reznor said johnny cash made it his own?
Thanks, But meh try not to wind people up, because it can do shit loads more damage than you'd think.
to be fair there are two singers in fightstar. i think charlies voice is the strongest by far. it doesnt really work with this song, it needs to be softer. think they did

@Onslaughttitude
LOL
even if nine inch nails did it first.. johnny cash's version will always be the best
as in trent reznor said the johnny cash version was better then his.
its a good cover but nothing will beat johnny cashes version for fuck sake trent reznor even said johhny made this song his own
charlies voice isnt awful. in ur opinion maybe. but its a matter of opinion. there are people like you who dont like it but also people who love it and prefer it to anyone elses voice in the world. everyone likes different things. anyway im a huge fightstar fan and i admit this is there worst cover. all there other covers are awesome though and there an awesome band in my opinion. theres more than enough proof of that in there other covers and lots of ther own stuff. in my opinion.
you must be fucking kidding.
shockin
Why the hell are you going on about Charlie Simpson trying to be cool? He is already cool, he's in a wicked metal band. Nothing wrong. Why do you think Johnny Cash's cover get the recognition over Fightstars?
I love this song but I would still rank it slightly below both Cash and NIN's versions
yeah people often bitch that either nine inch nails or johnny cash's version is better.

NIN > This > Cash
The lyrics, the music is Trent's. The Cash version is boring.
Did you grow a heart 6 years since posting this?
Nine Inch Nails did it better.
no need to get so butthurt. try listening to some decent music then you wont have this problem
The post at the top of this is really confusing when you look it at against this. Your a huge fan but Charlie's voice is awful, this is pathetic, and your angry people like this shit?

this is a disgrace
Oh my god this is terrible...
Cash > This > NIN ........ > Leona Fucking Lewis
bloody hell, that is awful! and i love fighstar, NIN and Hurt! oh dear..lol
