FYI: The 12 big universities in Cebu seemed not part of the Sinulog Festival contest proper but they perform during the opening launch parade which is about 2 weeks before the start of the actual street.dancing and staging. It is participated by the baragays, the cities and towns of cebu and from other provinces in visayas and mindanao. If the universities and colleges were to join at the final Sinulog Festival, it makes it too long of street dancing and presenting in the stage performance. They were part of it years before when Sinulog was from morning till midnight event due to the many participating contingents. Now, its just the winners from Sinulog sa Barangay, Sinulog sa Lalawigan and the contingets outside Cebu. Also the colleges and universities do performed their religious Sinulog Dances and show off their elaborate costumes at the Basilica del Santo Nino de Cebu Pilgrims Center during the 9-day novena. Sinulog is indeed the most spectacular and grandest in magnitude of attendees in the country today as it is participated in by the entire Cebu Province and neighboring islands.

Guys to those who are confuse and comparing the Sinulog to Dinagyang Festival. I would like to say something that we have 2- Category to perform and dance Sinulog.
1. Free Interpretation - Any tribes or Costumes to a different places perform their honor dance and showcase their beliefs and traditions to everyone. While
2. Sinulog based - consist of works tradition and belief of every cebuano when Magellan brought Sr. Sto Niño in Cebu from Spain. The characteristics, behavior and also the beat, style of dance (Spanish pleasant movements), Vision is different.

Sinulog was inspired by atiatiha, you can research it .the festival started back on between 70's and 80's . Atiatihan is the first festival ever in the Philippines. But how ati atihan dance by dancer was actually how the native or negretos dance in ritual. And its similar to Dinagyan festival, which you can the native people in the islan are also Negretos that how the Spanish called several islands calked NEGROS Province. Basically the Ati-atihan in Panay , Dinagyang and Sinulog celebrated sane third Sunday because of sane Patron de Santo Nino.but the only differences between the three festival are the history of the peoples living in different islands .they giving us there history and cultures. So yes , the Spanish canne 500 years ago and the Ati-Atihan just start celebrated back on 70's/80's, but the dance / ritual might be more than even 800 years ago. Dinagyang is such a boring festival. Walang katao-tao. Pang baranggay festivity lang. Kung maglalakad ka sa daan kung saan nagsasayaw mga contingents, sobrang dali daanan kasi walang tao. Tapos mainstage nila,sus walang kwenta. Walang foreigners or balikbayan na kusang umuuwi yearly para manuod ng Dinagyang. Hindi rin napupuno mga hotels nyo, jusko! Sobrang liit ng contingents, walang out-of-town contingents. Liit ng premyo. Walang grand fireworks sa mga malls. Well, wala naman kayo masyadong bonggang malls dyan in the first place. Kaya instead na mang-aaway kayo sa Sinulog, tulungan nyo ang nagma-manage ng Dinagyang Festival kung paano nyo mapaganda festival nyo, paano kaayo dadayuhin ng mga tao, at paano nyo palalabasin yang mga Ilonggo mismo na nasa bahay lang na ayaw manuod ng sarili nyong festival. Saang anggulo tingnan, sa commercial man o religious aspect ng Sinulog, dinudumog ng tao, ang novena masses sa simbahan o sa carousel route mismo. Jusko! Nakaka-awa festival nyo. And they dance their main performance in the Cebu City Sports Center stadium in a *big stage* in front of a huge tiered structure with *hundreds of spectators!* Hindi barong-barong! We only build lots of scaffolding platforms along the Sinulog route for the audiences lang for streetdancing, not for main performances, watdahek!

Admit maganda ang Sinulog at bongga pa, pero para sa mga cebuanong bitter jan wag sanang mang lait ng ibang festival, d lang naman sinulog ang magaling, to prove na mahahambog ang mga taga cebu, visit nyo mga video ng Dinagyang sa aliwan videos, dun mababasa at makikita nyo ang mga comment ng mga cebuano, lumad basakanon daw pinaka magaling, magaling ba yong simula 2006 hanggang 2017 ganun parin performance nila ?Yong performance nila ngayong 2017 ganun din ang performance nong Aliwan 2014..Pero nagalingan ako sa festival ng sinulog. Hindi sa ugaling cebuano.

Ralfie Apistar sinulog and dinagyang is just like triplets (include the ati atihan) are all dances for santo niño and also in sinulog feathered costumes are very known since before, so to be exact sinulog is not a copy cut because sinulog started since the mid 1940's - 1950's and dinagyang started in mid 1960's.

Emperor D 87 kitang kita naman eh. Masyadong creative ang dinagyang at taon2x iba iba ang concept. D kagaya ng Sinulog o lumad basakanon ganun at ganun lang rin ang performance nila. Dati sinulog dance lng din naman ginagawa dyan. Bakit ngayon may story line narin kagaya ng dinagyang. Pero maganda ang sinulog actually, mas energetic, lively at native lng cguro ang dinagyang.

Josephance Arch-Mac Kaya nga mas maganda nga Sinulog sa Dinagyang. Pero bakit binabash pa ng mga cebuano? .. At bakit paulit ulit nangyayari sa Sinulog? D kagaya ng Dinagyang na iba iba ang concept taon2x. Mga taga ibang lugar lng naman nagpeperform jan sa Sinulog diba? Sa Dinagyang schools lng within the city, at bongga sa sinulog kasi milyon ang cash prize, sa Dinagyang 150k lang. Mas konte ang prize ng Dinagyang. Pero every tribe gumagastos ng milyon para lang mapakita sa mga manunuod. At Dinagyang Festival lang ang bukod tanging Best tourism event ng Bansa. Hehe pero gusto ko ang Sinulog.

Dinagyang is such a boring festival. Walang katao-tao. Pang baranggay festivity lang. Kung maglalakad ka sa daan kung saan nagsasayaw mga contingents, sobrang dali daanan kasi walang tao. Tapos mainstage nila,sus walang kwenta. Walang foreigners or balikbayan na kusang umuuwi yearly para manuod ng Dinagyang. Hindi rin napupuno mga hotels nyo, jusko! Sobrang liit ng contingents, walang out-of-town contingents. Liit ng premyo. Walang grand fireworks sa mga malls. Well, wala naman kayo masyadong bonggang malls dyan in the first place. Kaya instead na mang-aaway kayo sa Sinulog, tulungan nyo ang nagma-manage ng Dinagyang Festival kung paano nyo mapaganda festival nyo, paano kaayo dadayuhin ng mga tao, at paano nyo palalabasin yang mga Ilonggo mismo na nasa bahay lang na ayaw manuod ng sarili nyong festival. Saang anggulo tingnan, sa commercial man o religious aspect ng Sinulog, dinudumog ng tao, ang novena masses sa simbahan o sa carousel route mismo. Jusko! Nakaka-awa festival nyo. Puntahan mo cityhall nyo at makipag-brainstorming ka doon!
