I just returned from the region and rode the Ruta 40 from Perito Moreno north solo. Not sure what kind of weather you faced at your trip, but in January 2024 there was a lot of rain in northern Argentina. The section from Cachi to San Antonio de los Cobres and especially the canyon further north of Susques can be tricky, depending on rain. In this canyon the Ruta 40 is effectively in the middle of the riverbed for some 15 km. It was challenging riding mostly in the water in loose gravel with uncounted crossings and a thunderstorm right behind. It might be a breeze in the dry season, but I went all-in to get out of that canyon. While the vast part of Ruta 40 is on tarmac and the main challenges are the winds, whether from the side or head-up, the northern part can turn into a real challenge, in off-road riding, the bike's reliability and, most important, the rider's own physical strength and endurance. One might be lucky, but you should know what you are up to. Btw: the police registered every rider passing La Poma north with the urgent request to notify the police at San Antonio de los Cobres after making the passage. Just to avoid SAR efforts for missing travelers, most probably for good reason.

Que grandiosas capturas
Como Argentino te felicito por recorrer unos 4000 km por la ruta 40 en una moto con cominos tan dificiles.
Gracias, Clausio. Una maravilla la 40. Espero poder regresar y recorrerla más despacio. Un abrazo.
How long did you drive for the route 40? 😁
Interesante!
