  • Piazza San Marco, commonly referred to as St. Mark's Square in English, is the main public square in Venice, Italy. It is also commonly referred to as "la Piazza" ("the Square"). All other city areas are referred to as campi ("fields"), with the exception of the Piazzetta and Piazzale Roma. The Piazzetta, often known as the "little Piazza/Square," is the southeast corner of the Piazza that extends towards the San Marco basin. Together, the two areas are considered to as Venice's social, religious, and political center.
