I love the history lesson. These younger generations need resources like your channel, so they have the DIY tutorials and the history of how these projects came about to begin with. I've always had a thing for the history of fashion and of music. Combine the two, even better for a geekgasam, haha
I haven't worn my bumflap in years, but it's hanging on the wall in my room. I never put a secret pocket in it, but one of my friends had a crotch flap with one. Basically a punk rock fanny pack lol.
I really love how you took a moment to show just how easy and accessible it is to upcycle. Those stupid zipper bags are everywhere. I've never seen these bumflaos in my local scene, and it was interesting learning a bit about the history of them.
Laughing my flap off @ 1:55 because YEAH. If I go to a bar with my mohawk up, some rando office slob is going to challenge me with 'What do you think of the current state of ElectroGoth music today?' and WOW I wish I was making that up.
DAMN!!!! What a good idea about those free zipper bags!! Dude, I have so many and also make my own pockets on my punk gear, but never thought to combine them. MIND BLOWN. That alone was worth the watch, but amazing video overall.
Love the vid! Just a tip for ironing, press and hold a flat piece of wood (like a scrap 2x4, as long as its uncoated) on ur seams after you iron them. It absorbs the water giving you super crisp fold that is much easier to work with when ur doing welt style pockets like this
I've been getting into sewing and customizing denim jackets, so I've been watching sewing tutorials. This channel is definitely one of the more unique. Lol. It made me realize how much of a princess I am with my sewing machine and cutting mats 😂😂
Nice one, Reptil. I've heard of people incorporating bicyclye tire tubes into their bumflaps to make them even more comfortable to sit on the sidewalk, though I've never seen that in practice myself.
Haven't visited the channel in a while but this vid makes me miss my old flap when i was still on the road. Shit was so cash. Leather outside from a dumpster couch, two layers of upholstery fabric i thrifted with yoga foam stadium seat from walmart sewn in between, then another piece of the upholstery fabric on the closest to the butt (not sewn at the top and angled so i could just drop stuff in easy if i needed to). Keep up the vids fam, love the history that most kids don't know.
I actually have an old video covering this, I do plan on making a new tutorial on studding soon. Check out the time stamp 12:29 on this old video th-cam.com/video/Bm01Gq8uSoQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Bc6A7jk44H1LjMGf
Me and a coworker were just talking about bum flaps and how people would make more Fanny packs style instead of actual bum flaps. Never made one myself but I’ve seen cool ones out there
You ever see the kilt like flaps on the pants of some Native Americans in movies? I don’t know what they’re called that’s more of a prairie native thing I’m a coastal, Either way you ever notice a lot of punk things low key look like modern versions of Viking and Native American stuff? I always thought that kinda ruled
You can also make your own studs out of soda cans by cutting the metal into a pattern that creates a cone shape! Tends to look a little less polished than commercial studs, but that's how it goes.
Comment before watching: First saw this from 80s Bands in germany 😂 they hat this to protect their pants from "sitting through", you know These pants are a lot of work you dont wanna crush by sitting on the ground while asking people for Money 😂😂
Bum flaps are there because back before they made stretch jeans for men, we used to cut the ass seam and sew women's stretch jeans to fit male hips. These would often split at the seam, so you'd use a bum flap to cover it. You'd also safety pin them to the back of your thighs so it wouldn't fly around like a little loincloth.
Hahaha, I actually love the history and comedy in this one: "if you're not a woman, they won't ask you to name three songs anyways"

Stoked you enjoy, thanks for watching 🦖🦖🦖
You could also integrate a softer more insulating fabric in the middle of the flap, incase you sit long times on cold stones for example.
Great idea 🦖
these give a vibe of like punk rock medieval loin cloths and that's badass
Love it, might put a QR code somewhere on mine to share some cool stuff.
* cyberpunk intensifies *
That’s such a cool idea !

Yeah it is crazy how they get made to be thrown away. Bumflaps are not as popular as they use to be tbh
crustpunks watching this before leaving their dads mansion to go see some shitter internet hardcore band like gel or spy
*I have been hand sewing forever and have never used dental floss, you have inspired me to give it a go.* *So happy to have found your channel.*
Waxed thread also works great 🦖🦖🦖

The guys I knew used to put foam or cotton in the pocket to make a pillow for sitting. Great vid btw🤘

You have inspired me a lot with diy clothing and I've learned a lot from you , thank you for keeping the roots of the culture alive
Omg why didn't someone tell me 15 years ago??? I was the queen of "i sit where ever i am right now". This would have been really useful!
I have been making and fixing my own clothes for a while this is some cool shit! I wish I had found this channel earlier!!!!!

Your commitment is commendable

Yup! They definitely do.
I‘ve been thinking about making this and crust pants for sooo long but crust pants are so time consuming 💔 really great video thank you for this!

Great stuff as usual!

Im native, i loovveeeee using trad inspired pieces and bumflaps are another cool thing to use fr
Love using mint floss for sewing, smells so fucking good! Also the cinnamon is badass whenever I can find it
This is perfect, thanks :)
it's funny I found your channel last year looking for bum flap videos
I actually had a very old tutorial up a out bumflaps but I wanted to make a legit video 🦖
Again as always love your videos man 😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
I might need to make this
holy shit, your channel is the best find in quite some time! wish you the best!!
Have you ever heard the band The Ramones? They are super punk. You should give them a try! 💪🏻
Can't believe there ain't a punk band called "The Bum Flaps"!
Unfortunately just the Krum Bums
@@reptil_diy cheers, I will check them
@@reptil_diy Yaye, I like. they seem like a great night out good tunes! Thanks
Great live shows too, check out Starving Wolves as well. They have the same front man David Rodriguez
Where do you get all of your studs? They’re pretty difficult to come across from my experience and they can get pretty pricy even at local punk shops
I only order studs from studsandspikes.com
I avoid buying them in shops because the prices are gouged and the quality tends to be low
You can also make your own studs out of soda cans by cutting the metal into a pattern that creates a cone shape! Tends to look a little less polished than commercial studs, but that's how it goes.
Don't call me an influencer, but I call mine a "fartflap."
