I went to all of his parties. He was amazing with his mixing. The Furious Five was everything! And I thought I would fall out when Flash introduced the beatbox at CES 109 school. He and FF would play and they would emcee. It was the BEST! They would form a circle around me and my dance partner and watch us dance. The Furious Five would battle the Fantastic Five and sometimes the Funky Four plus One at the PAL but they were no competition. The FF couldn't be touched. And Flash is a musical genius. He was so smooth with the mixing. I hope to be able to talk to him one day.
The Pioneer! I'm a 57yr young White dude who was front row center for the beginning of this incredible musical genre. I've stayed true to myself and true to the hip-hop culture. Take it back to the dances at the gyms, the Fresh Fest concert, the days when DJs could play what they wanted. Pre Autotune, when 2 turntables, a cross-fade, a microphone, and a boatload of talent was what it took to make history!
This is one of your most informative in-depth interview from a Hip Hop legend that was there when this whole thing started.Shoutout to my Carribbean brother from Barbados Grandmaster Flash.
Class was in session. It’s good to get a history lesson straight from the source. Hope to see more people from this era do the same and hopefully all together in the same room. Gotta do it now that they’re alive. Thank you Drink Champs for getting the ball rolling.
I ran into the great grand master flash 25 years ago in the Bronx. I asked for his autograph he graciously said yes & made it to my son.i still have it till this day. Real solid dude. Thx Flash👍🏽👍🏽
2 things.... 1. Thank you for bringing on Grand Master Flash, the way he told stories and taught us important hip-hop history that was captivating and phenomenal! 2. This is for the Drink Champs production team: please improve the microphone, sound, lighting, the camera equipment and amateur operators. In this and many other episodes, the footage is blurry, shaky, at times not even in frame. The sound or microphones are not placed correctly, sometimes the lighting is off making a person look too bright or too dark. Drink Champ production team, please elevate your production, stop using amateurs or low budget methods. The platform has grown and viewership has increased, fans need you to continuously adapt and better the production for quality sake.
Damn. This is my history class. I got in to djing, I always wanted or searching the history, I always hear about grandmaster flash and grandwizard Theodore or hear other interviews. This one did it for me. I love hiphop.
That's why we need guys like Flash and the Original- Original OGs to share these stories while they're still here and cognizant to teach. This is stuff you can't get from a book.
Seeing Grandmaster Flash on this at this stage of his life got me emotional. I was a little boy when he was in his prime. Seein him on this getting his recognition is a beautiful thing. More old school artists on this show PLEASE.
Glad to hear him shout out the original Grandmaster who is the Foundational Black American Grandmaster Flowers that all of the early DJ’s got the game from. Foundational Black American culture birthed Hip Hop music/culture and we welcomed the other contributors from other lineages that were influenced by our culture.
Y'all gotta stop this. Notice grandmaster flash isn't talking about who's American/Jamaican/etc. it was black culture in the Bronx. That's all they cared about. Nothing was done in the name of "lineage" lmao that's clown shit. I keep seeing this "he's not black American" from a couple weirdos. That shit doesn't matter he's still American, most importantly a new yorker
Created the beat box??? Yall be taking things to far! Henisntryingbtontake LL the credit for himself when it wasn’t 4 people who created hip hop it was way more people then that the bboys don’t even get their credit when it started with them ain’t no hip hop with the funk of James brown and many other Black Americans DJs like Jim brown & Dj Mario but it started with the bboys not the Dj it started with the Black Americans community who are the real creators of hip hop the entire Black American community who none of these people give credit to without us there is no hip hop!
I noticed that. As a DJ he was on cloud 9, things he always wanted to know. Nore isn’t following a lot of the technical stuff but EFN it’s all on it. Lol
Hip Hip was going in Bronxdale before 1973. I find it funny how these dudes never wanna mention how they were going to rosedale park to see Mario or Kool Dee
I do to and it’s funny how nobody ever ask that question and put it on the table even though they have heard the truth of hip hop but I wouldn’t expect more or the wight dude to do it because they have narrative to paint nore who claims PR and the other wight dude Colombian I wouldn’t expect them to make a stand for the truth dude looks nothing like a Latino but that’s all he claims I get it it’s part of him but not the only part of him! Never gives props to his Black side so that should tell you a lot right there but he is entertaining though!
@@Black_unity597 Man Tex was literally bori bro. Idk what y’all are talkin about, we can get the full story of Hip Hop without bein like racist whites and erasing folks or shuttin em out just cause of where they from. Even Coke said himself a lotta dudes wasn’t saying where they were from or their background, so a lot more cats coulda been “latin” or “Caribbean” and folks wouldn’t even know.
why is that necessary? Flash names who he names. he claims what he himself did and gives props to those who influenced him. how would you know where he was going or who he was or wasn't seeing? bizarre how folks would rather detract than simply learn.
Been djing since 1986. Def give a big salute to Flash (a legend) for being a pioneer and making a way for others like me to make a way in the game. From the clubs, to the dances to the house parties. I want to give thanks to u and the others for paving the way so we can find our own roads. Salute
Grew up on fox Street, and 138cypress, went to ps 43. In the 70s before moving to EL BARRIO / HARLEM LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIP HOP GROWING UP!!!... keep up the great work!!
Actually there are FIVE elements of hip hop 1. Graffiti 2. Break Dancers 3.DJing 4. MCing 5. Fashion Been down since day one!!! Uptown. Northeast Bronx 216th St between Laconia and Paulding Aves. DJ Breakout was a constant on my block hanging with his boy Richie T. (1973-78), then on to the Valley ( Haffen Park) where all DJs came and did " jams" in the park where the music could be heard for 3 blocks!! Classmate of Rahiem at Truman HS ( English/ Mr. Fink). Great show guys.
5 was knowledge not fashion though fashion is apart of hip hop but never heard of it being the 5th element graffiti is kinda strange because those graffiti artist never claimed to be hip hop booty bandit bam did that he claimed them but they never claimed hip hop the rest is on point I just disagree with the 5th and graffiti don’t know what that has to do with music dancing DJing & Mcing this story that booty bandit bam has out has to be taken apart it wasn’t true then and it isn’t true now even Herc used to correct people about that story and told the truth now he doesn’t but back then Herc told the truth!
One common theme that I don’t think he and a lot of people seem to always try to separate but it seems like the Disco played a large part in the formation of hip hop like it or not!
Rap / Hip hop is Black America’s gift to the world. Funk and R & B are the DNA of hip hop. Black Americans have always been hipping and hopping for our survival in a racist country
@iam hip hop Why not it is racial everything has to do with race in this country he has every right to state facts about our culture who are you to say he can’t??? When it comes to our culture we verybidy wants to say don’t make it racial but when it comes to salsa or reggae nobody ain’t saying that even though Black Americans had hands on created both! We are not supposed to homer our history in this country after all we have been thru in this country and still we were able to produce these great things that world enjoys but don’t want to hear the pain behind it all but we are supposed to respect others cultures but yall don’t want to respect ours this is our fault we are to inviting to outsiders this has to stop!
The Mutha FKng legend!!! You cannot celebrate 50 years of hip hop without Grand Master Flash?!?! Are you serious??? The inventor of mixology and DJ’ng!!! 🔥🔥🙇🏽♂️🙇🏽♂️

IM SO GLAD HE SAID IT !!!
STOP BREAKING THE LAW OF DJ'ing when spinning at parties/clubs, trynna throw 🥷's, F'n up the vibes.....!
Class was in session. It’s good to get a history lesson straight from the source. Hope to see more people from this era do the same and hopefully all together in the same room. Gotta do it now that they’re alive. Thank you Drink Champs for getting the ball rolling.
I'm smoking all of my weed while I'm enjoying this history lesson❤❤
I'm two with ya😂😂😂😂
I ran into the great grand master flash 25 years ago in the Bronx. I asked for his autograph he graciously said yes & made it to my son.i still have it till this day. Real solid dude. Thx Flash👍🏽👍🏽
Flash is what Jamaicans called a sound man. The early sound systems were DIY built, we used to build our speaker boxes too.
🎩👌🏼
This was an absolute joy to watch.
Hip hop culture master class. Thank you
Gotta respect this episode … gems
Magic Johnson WAS a DJ in college at Michigan State. His name was EJ The DJ.
This was well needed for the culture of Hip Hop. Best Drink Champs interview so far!!
King Disco Mario, Kool DJ Dee, Tyrone the Mixologist, Smokey??
This honestly felt like school... I was truly amazed. I could literally just listen to him talk about mixing
FACTS!
DJ Grandmaster Flash is a legend, icon All these DJ should praise this man that started to quick mix the beatbox enough respects to you my brother
This has been the best episode ever! No one can top this anymore. Flash is the one who started everything.
Flash out here sounding like a whole rocket scientist ❤ this interview made me nostalgic. It was a pleasure to watch! Great job @drinkchamps 👏
Best episode ever this made EFN ,s day all DJ⏺️ legends , what’s good Scram!!!
I noticed that. As a DJ he was on cloud 9, things he always wanted to know. Nore isn’t following a lot of the technical stuff but EFN it’s all on it. Lol
This is an important episode. This is from the source. A real living legend and inventor
They Don’t want to give FBA no. Credit
@@Ishamel88 who bro? whoooooooo? who don't want to give fba no credit man? WHOO?
Been djing since 1986. Def give a big salute to Flash (a legend) for being a pioneer and making a way for others like me to make a way in the game. From the clubs, to the dances to the house parties. I want to give thanks to u and the others for paving the way so we can find our own roads. Salute
Hip Hop Masterclass 🎚🎤🎧🎓
THESE STORIES NEED TO BE HEARD AND DOCUMENTED! THIS IS THE BEGINNINGS OF HIP-HOP!!!!! WELL DONE DRINK CHAMPS!!!
this what i been waiting for
Grew up on fox Street, and 138cypress, went to ps 43. In the 70s before moving to EL BARRIO / HARLEM
LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIP HOP GROWING UP!!!... keep up the great work!!
Actually there are FIVE elements of hip hop
1. Graffiti
2. Break Dancers
3.DJing
4. MCing
5. Fashion
Been down since day one!!!
Love it. I’m a DJ in Flash era. He tweaked my skills. Mad knowledge, damn good teacher.
BabyD Mercedes Ladies.
One common theme that I don’t think he and a lot of people seem to always try to separate but it seems like the Disco played a large part in the formation of hip hop like it or not!
QUESTION: How was instruments created? Who created music and singing?
I dare say, this is one of the most (if not the most) important episodes to date‼️
Rap / Hip hop is Black America’s gift to the world. Funk and R & B are the DNA of hip hop. Black Americans have always been hipping and hopping for our survival in a racist country
Don't make it racial
@@IAMHIPHOP974STFU HISTORY OF REAL FACTS
@@IAMHIPHOP974says the prejudice person that always say racist things about Black Americans
@iam hip hop
Why not it is racial everything has to do with race in this country he has every right to state facts about our culture who are you to say he can’t??? When it comes to our culture we verybidy wants to say don’t make it racial but when it comes to salsa or reggae nobody ain’t saying that even though Black Americans had hands on created both! We are not supposed to homer our history in this country after all we have been thru in this country and still we were able to produce these great things that world enjoys but don’t want to hear the pain behind it all but we are supposed to respect others cultures but yall don’t want to respect ours this is our fault we are to inviting to outsiders this has to stop!
@@Black_unity597 AND WE HAVE TO STOP GIVING THEM TO MUCH OF OUR ENERGY. IGNORE THEM SOMETIMES
The Mutha FKng legend!!! You cannot celebrate 50 years of hip hop without Grand Master Flash?!?! Are you serious??? The inventor of mixology and DJ’ng!!! 🔥🔥🙇🏽♂️🙇🏽♂️
Lord have mercy put the crack pipe down
He did not invent DJing you wilding straight bugging Flash is stroking his own ego he was never bigger that Booty bandit bam which everybody knows he didn’t create anything at all he watched Dj Mario & Tex Hollywood doing their thing played on their set that’s where he got it from the leaders of the Black spades Mario!
I love the fact that he brings school into this for all the young ones yes you can do it with hard work but school does something to you and it’s an experience I think everyone is also entitled to… god bless
HE IS THE HISTORICAL AUTHOR OF HIP-HOP OKAY
In ur Charmaine voice 😂
Lord have mercy, this man is a fraud taking credit for what the real pioneer s created
@@undisputedtruth6176 explain plz
This is by far the absolute best episode of the drink champ Grandmaster Flash one of the true architects, of hip-hop number one of my top five👑📀🔥
