So Hyang is a CCM/Gospel artist and in Korea it's really not that popular like Kpop, kind of like here in the States secular music dominates the radio and the charts. Also So Hyang has over 15 Korean Drama OST songs in her catalog.

United States is around 70% Christian country and Christian music is not that popular here either. I would guess more than 95% of Americans don't listen to Christian music daily, only maybe 10% listen to Christian music on Sunday which is Church day for most of United States.

Lee Hi is the singer in red. She is one of the most famous singers in South Korea, as are all those present. They are younger than So Hyang and all have said they are in awe of her and to be in the same space and hearing her voice is transcendent. So Hyang is certainly one of the most skilled vocalists on earth. She can sing any genre. I just know you will enjoy her. She has some of the best live performances I have ever heard. I am an American and to say she is the 'Korean Mariah Carey' is far too limiting. She is far more flexible and versatile to me with more power and nuance, and I like Mariah and I love Whitney Houston who would have loved So Hyang. This lady can sit at the same table as any of the greats. BTW, she is now second only to Dimash in reaction videos on TH-cam, which is how many, many of us even found out about her. She wishes not to pursue fame but to sing with love. I really liked the way you two broke it down so thoughtfully. I will subscribe to you. 'I Have Nothing' from the DMC Festival with her in a dark blue dress, or 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' from KBS K-Pop TV are completely a different level, though this shows how incredible her voice is sitting outside in the wind on a dock. The young man in the background is an accomplished singer and musical genius. His name is Henry Lau and I recommend his live performance of Faded on two pianos at once. All the singers there are very much respected and accomplished and in awe of So Hyang. She is a powerhouse and yes Brideg over troubled water is taken to another level as is most of her songs. Best to you both

She is the epitomy of an artist, noble, passionate, with bold but brilliant choices. Her voice lost a bit after around 9 cases of pnemonia but thankfuly came back to us with more passion and dexterity. As she mentioned in one of her interviews ""when previously I was feeling like a race car on the road, now I feel more like a bus, I run slower but can carry more people"". For me personaly her brightest moment is "Bridge over the troubled water".👍👍👏👏👏

This is a group that traveled around Korea during the Pandemic to lift people's spirits. Notice that she is sitting on a wharf in the wind and also that she SANG the Saxophone solo? PLEASE do more of Sohyang! She is legit one of my favorite singers on the planet right now, absolutely phenomenal. The amount of vocal coaches I’ve seen watch her videos and just absolutely lose it is hilarious. She did the best version of “I Have Nothing” (yes, better than Whitney Houston) if that gives you any idea how amazing she can get, and it’s only one example. Literally the only reason she’s not more famous is because she doesn’t want to be, she’s never actually signed a contract with any studio despite being reached out to many times.

Your "Sohyang" pronunciation is good and your voice is very good, too.
When Sohyang performed for a crowd, she tends to mellow down. If it is a stage performance such as I Am A Singer 2, Immortal Song 2 and King Of Mask Singers, you will get chills and goosebumps guaranteed, esp IMS 2 and KOMS.
Sohyang is well known for her ability to belt. For me, her head voice simply takes the cake.

She won on a Michael Bolton’s special on a Korean show called Immortal Songs 2 so she was able to sing with him during his concerts. You can find it on TH-cam. The show/contest is about taking well known or not so famous singers (including KPOP idols) and having them remix popular singers/bands/producers/lyricists throughout Korean history (with some int’l singers like Michael Bolton). They also did a PDogg/BTS special.

Sohyang has stated that during the "Begin Again Korea" series of busking events her voice was only at 30% of normal, due to the eight separate bouts of pneumonia she had suffered through between 2016 and 2020. So you twins have some surprises in store for you when you explore all the other music she has made. She truly is the best singer I have ever heard. 👽🛸

BTW, Whitney's former manager saw the DMC Festival video of Sohyang singing "I Have Nothing", and contacted Oprah Winfrey, who in turn, contacted David Foster. They were all amazed. He invited her to sing on his tour in Asia. She did 8 shows in 4 days in Tokyo. Foster co-wrote that song. He arranged and produced it for Whitney for her album, and her performance in "The Bodyguard". Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards, including 3 for Producer of the Year, and has been nominated a total of 47 times.

Sohyang has a lot of performances that you can react to. If you want something that is original to her she recently released a duet with Petra called "The Star" and before that "Freedom" which is a more jazzy Christian song. The year before that she released "Stay" and there is video for that or I really like her singing it at Begin Again Korea 2021.

Hi, thank you for your reaction. Sohyang's performance is absolutely unique and touching. Very moving. She did a kind of drama, using also silence, which is a very powerful tool. What is amazing she made me completely forget the rough industrial surrounding. Her voice made it all dissapear - apart of the thankful audience. Listen to her version of "Bridge over troubled water". I'm afraid you would have to strenghten your famous seat belts...

These are my top 2 favorites of hers. she doesn't just do covers, she genuinely creates whole new renditions of these immortal songs and makes them her own, always taking it to the next level with her INSANE vocals. Music critics weren't exaggerating when they call her "The Korean Mariah Carey". She's definitely one of the best vocalists to ever exist, and arguably has the MOST PERFECT vocal technique in the world right now. It's actually insane. This performance doesn't even show a quarter of what she can do. You definitely have to check some more of her work.

I have always loved that song from the first time I heard it in 1974, hearing the different artist sing it I have to say she has to be one of the best versions I've heard. I lost my mom May 16, 2013 so I feel you guys when it comes to the emotional part of hearing songs but I agree with you it didn't make me feel sad but actually at ease. The PHENOMENAL So Hyang actually SANG the saxophone part.
As impressive as this performance was, trust and believe, it showcases a very small sample of the flexibility in her voice. So Hyang's range is RIDICULOUS and off the charts. Her breath control is INSANE and unmatched. Often times, So Hyang's song covers, make the original sound like a demo tape. She has the gift of updating and elevating these songs.

We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks five languages: Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading Greek!

She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. She just turned 44 on April 5, 2022, though in Korean culture she would be 45 because you are deemed to be one year old when you are born. After being sick with pneumonia eight times from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she decided to enter a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international attention from the performances being posted on TH-cam.
Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on TH-cam and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted Sohyang and went to Japan in order to have her perform eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. For those who don't know, David Foster was Whitney Houston's producer for some of her songs, wrote "I Have Nothing", her most iconic song, and is the most famous and influential music producer in the world. In a South Korean television interview Sohyang conceded that she struggled with her desire for fame for a number of years, going into the basement in her home numerous times and closing the door so she could complain vehemently to God that He was holding her back from becoming famous due to her health problems and other unforeseeable events. Then she later saw a Korean TV drama where the talented daughter of a very successful businessman was positive she would take over when her father retired. But he left the management of the company to a woman she hated, so she had a fit and lay kicking and screaming on the floor. “I think singers are very susceptible to arrogance, especially when they hear the screaming from crowds on stage. It can make you feel like as if you’ve become God.”
“And I’m perfectly okay with sharing my music via TH-cam, which can reach tens of millions of people all over the world without making me feel stuck up. Maybe that’s why I was born in this era.”
Sohyang is just the most amazing singer, Christian and human being. She is beautiful both inside and out, and so humble and genuine, with a stage charisma, facial expressions and smile that is off the charts.
In Korean dictionaries 소향--Sohyang--has several meanings.
• First is a type of Korean traditional music.
• Second is to burn incense on a burner.
• Third is to go toward.
But these meanings are rarely used today. Sohyang is also the name of a heroine in a Korean traditional novel. Yet for the definitive answer Sohyang has stated in an interview that her name means "enjoy the light." Her grandmother named her.

Well, one more gush. In an interview with a Turkish music producer Sohyang's assistants revealed (a bit to her chagrin, as she is a self-effacing person) that she can hit Eb7 and D7 in practise. However, she never goes above the 6th octave in performances. Since she starts at D3 that is more than a 4 octave range ... so how about them apples???! Oh, I just remembered, she is also a published fantasy novelist and has a theological treatise on the Book of Revelation in print. In addition, she is a very good stage actress, which she proved by playing Julie Andrews’ part in the South Korean production of “The Sound of Music.” Moreover, she sang the “Moana” part in the Korean version of the Disney film, does the musical vocals for many South Korean television dramas, and is a talented artist and cartoonist. She taught herself English by watching Disney's "The Little Mermaid" "about one hundred times" when she was just a kid, speaks English with a _perfect_ North American accent and has an outgoing and bubbly personality.
She can also play the piano and guitar. Is there anything this genius level woman can’t do? Ironically, Sohyang stated in another interview that both she and her in-law family were surprised to discover that she could sing so excellently!
Though she is less than 5' 4" and only about 100 pounds, Sohyang simply transcends the thresholds of music and takes you there with her. She becomes the song when she sings it, and then re-emerges when she is done. An experience like no other. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve spent _entire days_ listening to her, and shed more than a few tears of joy along the way.
I really must also compliment the choir, orchestra and audio/video production people Sohyang works with. They are all top notch from what I can see and hear, and that is important to note as these are _essential_ elements of any great musical production. The Korean people are easily as talented as anyone else.
