Word of advise if you are going to "dip" your toes into this servicing your own car, I suggest you watch M539, that guy is practically a god when it comes to servicing BMWs. Learned a lot myself.
Ekse, I wonder how much he spends in rands when he's busy going through an entire vehicle. I suspect that man is already extremely wealthy to be able to afford all those OEM parts
Mr Sambo sir..... Here is some honest advice from a former long-term E90 owner. DO NOT FIDDLE WITH THAT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING. Yes! changing the transmission fluid will enhance the driving experience, but when you do decide to change the transmission fluid (which is not recommended by BMW, especially when it is still functioning fine), do it this way... 1) Only use transmission fluid from BMW. Very important!! 2) Get an experienced person to change the transmission service for you. Otherwise, just enjoy your car my guy until your gearbox gives you issues. It's an old car, something expensive will eventually need to be replaced and no amount of preventative maintenance will save you from that fact.
You can change the oil dnt change the filter and dnt flush the transmission as you could remove too much friction material (metal) that the old oil had. Just drain and refill.
If you’re not sure if it’s the right decision to change your automatic gearbox fluid because of the possibility that it will start to slip or develop shifting issues I have a suggestion for you. The way I usually do it on an automatic transmission is that I drain the old fluid in a clean container carefully making sure that it doesn’t get contaminated. After draining it I store the old fluid and fill the gearbox up with new fluid(in your chase u need a specific zf-fluid). If the transmission shifts well after the fluid change you can consider it successful. If not just drain the new fluid in a clean container and put the old fluid back in and in chase you lost a bit just complete with the new fluid till it reaches max level and you are back where you started and the car won’t behave any worse than before. Good luck and don’t be afraid to do the job just document yourself before and if you are not sure of something just take it slow and take a step back and do some more documentation. Ps on the M47 engine is a really good reliable engine just make sure that you use quality diesel fuel and change the fuel filter regularly so that your injectors last a long time. Only specific flaw of this engine are the swirl flaps which I suggest you delete. Last tip:When you reach around 400.000 kms you should consider replacing the timing chain due to possible wear on the tensioner and stretching of the chain.
Yeah it's Deep Sort 95 and Muzi said Deep Sort 95 is big fan of this channel so he made it specifically for Muzi and he didn't release it to avoid being flagged for copyrights.
Well done on the oil change! Pretty sure a bunch of people just learnt how to change the oil on their own car for the first time :D This is inspiring though, there is hope for high mileage cars after all!
What a great job you did there. Doing your own services is the best thing you can do for your car and your pocket. Since your oil filter is on top there is no sequence necessary my friend. Puting in 5 liters first is great because all the oil doesn't come out when you do an oil service. Just be careful when you titen the oil filter housing so that you don't over titen and end up cracking it. Since your car is high mileage you can also cut the service intervals by half and do your services at 7500km or 12 months, this will extend the life of your engine too. You can do the Automatic oil change my brother, just do an oil '' drain & fill' and not an oil flush. The idea here is to itroduce clean oil ever so often if you are not sure wether it was done before. The gear box takes about 8 to 10 liters from dry and you will be only introducing 2-3 liters only. Maybe if you go to the dealership they can scan your key and check if it was done with them before. Also don't forget the engin air filter. Yes the cabon/aircon filter is a job right. Keep up the good work and keep well.
High mileage goes hand in hand with DIY on basic maintenance. Gearbox service is needed to prolong life span of Gearbox and even the DIFF needs an oil service.
Thanks for the video. Its crucial that you replace gearbox fluid at least every 100k km otherwise it could lead to gearbox failure. If unsure, rather a mechanic do it. The manufacturer really means its for the life of the vehicle which is normally a maximum of 250k km.
I have he E90 320d lci, air filter is much easier to access. Only thing I do different is open the oil filter first then drain. Once the oil pan plug is back, I put in the oil filter and fill some oil in the oil filter housing to prime the filter and then fill the engine oil.
personally I only recommend gearbox oil changes to my clients if the car is equipped with a cvt or dct/dsg automatic transmission. but if your car comes with a gearbox oil filter then you should also get it done, though it can be difficult to diy it because many german cars have one plug which is used to drain and refill the oil
Some advice for you .. consider an aftermarket warranty plan when things go south you covered.. My BMW x3 is sitting on 400 000km .. still going strong .. always make sure your oil changes are done using correct oil at an approved RMI workshop ..
On the gearbox oil change, BMW says "Its for life" but in real world if you think of it an want peace of mind, CHANGE IT. The OEM OIL is kak expensive but if you go to Golwagen they will give you the applicable 6 speed ZF specific oil bro. Buy with with gearbox oil filter pan and i would advice you check guys who do it to service because there is some little trouble shoot about temperature measurement after putting new oil, driving the car then come back measure if oil level is accurate so please dont do DIY on this one for now. Buy service kit and go to proper workshop. I can only refer you to guys in Gauteng. I dont know anyone in MP
I had the same Gearbox dilemma with my Runx 1.5, i was scared to change it, because everyone said its a life long fluid, When i changed it, the car felt better and fuel consumption improved.
The gearbox is 60000km and engine is 15000km but those figures are for a new car with low kilometres.the older the car u drop the figures due to wear.what is recommended is (30-20)000km and 10000km for gearbox and engine respectively.i drove mine from Jozi to Tanzania via Botswana and Zambian to Dar ES salaam.3 times with no issues.its my daily driver.NB.i drive a W202 C 200 Benz 1998 model.with almost 500000km.😂NO ISSUES 😊
Watching this video with the same car but on 380 000km with no issues. This tractor will run forever....if this is an experiment car I think you should consider stage 1 tuning
Ive always changed transmission oil on all my cars , if your car is equipped with a zf 6hp. Best yu take it to a ZF aftermarket , they will analyse the fluid and advise if you can still do a service, most of the bmws use a zf transmission and while bmw states it is lifetime oil, assuming its lifetime of the car until motorplan. Zf wil tell you otherwise that the fluid does require changing , and kit is about 5litres with the sump but capacity of the box is much more , so when you do the oil change i assume its fine because you just removing most of the old fluid and mixing new fluid with it
For a high mileage i would prefer a 10 w 40 for a thicker viscosity to compensate for the metals wear inside the engine and better cushion in hydraulic lifters
Great video I have the LCI and also do the minor service myself. I see you poured 10ppm instead of 50ppm diesel, when did you switch and how is your engine responding to it?
