I laughed that she took herself off to live in the temple with the nuns because she couldn't get the general. I love this drama and it's one of my absolute favourites. I think I've watched it about 15 times now, possibly more as I've lost count. A lot of people don't know what they're missing by not watching Chinese dramas. There are some fantastic shows that are extremely entertaining. I much prefer them to our western ones now. Lol.

Can someone explain why Wu Lei is known by so many names in this drama? Ling Buyi, Shiyilang, ZheShiang.. ??
don't quote me but wulei official name in this series is Ling Buyi, his nickname among family (his family and the imperial family) is zheshang while i think the public gave him a nickname shiyilang.
example - ice skater yuzuru hanyu (official name) yuzu (nickname among friends) goat (nickname by fans). 😅
Ling Buyi is his birth name. ZheShang is his style name given in adulthood. Shiyilang refers to him being the 11th son of the imperial family (Shiyi means 11 and Lang means lad/son).
I’m pretty sure they have a bunch of names in China that they get at like birth coming of age etc something like a courtesy name don’t quote me on that though I need to do research I’ve only seen some things in novels translated to English that are vague on it
I think you already got a good idea from below, they are all right with small correction can be made to them. So Ling buyi is his “official name” known by everyone and anyone. Zesheng is the name called among families or close friends. Shiyi lang , yes means 11th son/boy. According to the novel, the empires has 10 children, and he being the “adopted son” he was given the order 11th.

Now i understand why they separated full well. I didn't exactly get why they separated while watching the show. Now i knows she was right on her part for her decision. She never knew what he was doing, what his true intentions were, though it's true, he always protected her, and cherished her.
@@Iekha_DiveTripleS-lp1ts i know this is kinda a late reply (i just discovered this gem recently haha) but he could have not attended the banquet and just observed prince xiao from the shadows. he made his presence known because he knew shaoshang would be there. although with everything that was happening, i could see why shaoshang cannot see that and would feel used.

Came down here looking for this!!! I started watching from the middle and came across Wan QiQi way too late! She's an absolute gem and her fierce friendship is the best!
NN and QiQi are my type of girls, we'd be friends for sure. The pampered girls are like hyenas, they can't stand on their own and have to run in a pack. NNs feisty, free spirited, genuine, funny, smart nature attracts all the guys. NN is a rarity and the guys haven't encountered anyone like her before. Love her and love LBY with her. He is so focused on her and only her.

To any Chinese speakers out there! I'm really confused as to why they call General Ling/Zisheng 十一郎. What does "shiyilang" mean? Eleven something? I understand 3rd lady (三娘子)and 4th lady (四娘子), because it refers to the order in which they were born, but I don't understand 十一郎. Sometimes they call him that, and sometimes they call him General Ling. Hmmmmm
Cos the king have 10 children and ling being the adopted is known as the 11th child hence 十一郎

@@taeblends The emperor has five boys and five girls. Usually another boy would be counted like the sixth, but he's kinda honorary, plus he only came into the emperor's care when he was around 8/9, so I guess that's more of an informal monicker.
