Luz is a must-see if you are staying in Lagos, Portugal, a quick cab or bus ride away. It's such a beautiful and quaint beach town with a chill and laid-back vibe. We hope you enjoyed this video :)

Wow! Praia da Luz was our family's vacation beach from 1971 to the early 2000s. In 1971 we rented an apartment in the tallest building in the village, a three storey building near the church on the roads to Burgau and Espiche.
Luz got its name for a light house to help the peregrines to Santiago de Compostela. It was part of the southern route as Luz de Tavira and Aldeia da Luz in Alentejo, now submerged by the Alqueva dam. The tiny beach you see from Bull's is called Praínha. It used to have much more sand. The row of houses directly built in the rocks is called "Comboio" and they are the best in Luz. Glad you like it. The water is freezing, though.

Hello, I have recently come across your channel and enjoy watching your videos. I appreciate how thorough, thoughtful and honest your presentations are. We are a (not early) retired couple that lives in Florida. We are very much interested in exploring Algarve this fall.
FYI: we are originally from Romania. Glad to hear you're visiting. Hope you are not going to miss some of Transylvania and Bucovina. Enjoy!

Thank you, Sanda! We are having such a great time in Romania. We spent four days in Bucharest and just arrived in Brasov a couple days ago. We won't make it up to the Bucovina region but will be in Transylvania for the next two months. Such a beautiful country!! Thank you for watching and supporting our channel!
      Cheers!!!🍻

Hi Felicia, great idea. We always talk about it and never do!! We were in Spain mid-Sept. to mid-Dec. 2021 Then we spent Dec, Jan, and Feb in Montenegro and Albania before heading to Greece from mid-March to mid-April. We then had perfect weather in Portugal in May and June. We are now in Romania for July and Aug. We are going to start putting dates in the description of the videos. Thank you for watching Felicia!!

    Hi,
Nice video again. We prefer larger cities (such as Lisboa) to beach towns but vet instructive nonetheless.
My wife and I just turned 50. We’re about to retire but, being economists, we have “economic” related questions for you:
    1. Do you make/have a budget? Do you target or want to have a monthly spend? Max, monthly average yearly target..
    2. What was your motivation to leave your jobs or retire early? Was there a specific event for which stars were aligned?
    3. Do you own a house or are you completely “homeless”. If you don’t own real estate somewhere, how do you feel about it? Would you prefer an “anchor”, do you feel more free, or are you looking at the moment to buy something when you find your perfect spot.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, great questions.
We do have a budget depending on what country we are in. We try to stay within $1800 in total expenses for the month. In Montenegro and Albania that was easy. In Santorini not so much. The idea is to balance it out over the year. We haven't been on this journey for a year yet so stay tuned.
Nothing really "happened" besides the idea was in our heads for a 5-year plan. We just decided our situation wouldn't be that much different in 5 years than now so we just went for it.
We sold everything so yes, we are homeless and it feels great not having the responsibility! It is very freeing to even sell your car and rid yourself of stuff you have but don't need. We don't see ourselves buying any property anywhere anytime soon if ever. e have years of travel ahead of us before anything needs to be decided.
We have a video called "Retire Early and Travel" that explains a lot of our decision process leading up to quitting our jobs and doing what we are doing. Here is the link if you are interested. Thanks for watching!!
      Cheers!!!🍻 th-cam.com/video/DzDNp3hN19E/w-d-xo.html

    Great job Brian and Carrie!
We are really enjoying your videos and glad we have discovered your channel. Christine and I (Jim) are in the beginning stages of starting our own channel as well, talking about and showing people our passion of travel. We just have to take the leap.
We are scared to death, but it's inspiring to see you two making it look so easy. We have soooo many questions for you, lol!
Do you have any tips about starting a Vlog? (equipment/courses/etc.)
Who does the editing? ... and how/why did you decide to start this channel?
Looking forward to seeing more of your content!
    Cheers,
Jim & Christine (soon to be Midlife Travel Bug 😎)

Hi guys!! Sorry for the late reply, we usually try to respond asap but we wanted to sit at the laptop for this one! 🙂
Our tips for starting a TH-cam channel is just start!! If we started over however we would have done a few weeks of practice in front of a camera first. Those first few videos are a little rough and still being watched. 🙄
We have links to our camera gear in our video links under the description. You don't need two cameras. The Sony is excellent but you won't need one that complicated and the a6400 doesn't have in-body stabilization. The Cannon m50 is much less expensive and we use it 75% of the time.
For the primary videos that we release on Saturday Carrie has done all the editing. I will edit any video that comes out on a Sunday. You'll probably be able to tell the difference, don't tell anyone!!
We decided to start a channel just to see if we could do it and if it would supplement our monthly expenses. We have only been at it since October and can see the potential in it doing just that.
We have a video about our story and how we made the decision to travel, "Retire Early and Travel the World" It will answer any questions, that was the idea anyway. Thanks for watching and would love to see you to out traveling!!!
      Cheers!!!🍻

It is not pronounced as loose its luz the emphasis and sound looze and Lagos is pronounced as lagoosh the emphasis is on the goosh if you intend to travel and be followed do some history in pronunciations, otherwise not a bad tour of my old stamping ground for many years ,I had the bar on the front called in the old days as Cafe Inter ,now the Cabana.

Luz is not a hidden gem...it's PACKED in summer. And Portugal is very overpriced now. The Algarve has a very serious drought, down to 8% capacity in the local reservoirs. Salaries are terrible, housing is hard to find and property prices are extortionate compared to say Italy or Spain.
