This video was for me, I was a bit down about not being able to have my band but it has really helped me to put things into perspective thank you so much, I am excited to lead worship alone in the few days to come
Being part of a worship team , when the presence of the holy spirit begins to manifest i dig in deeper and strum harder in to my Taylor acoustic guitar and it responds with ease. Love the power that flows from Phil when the presence is manifesting.
Oh my @PhilWickham you're so talented, i feel super proud of who you are, I'm learning and this makes me want to learn to play the guitar noe, thats how inspiring you are here. Thankful for Phil and his incredible God gifted talent. 😍🙌💝
I like worship accoustic guitar and am growing in music confidence and gifts since becoming a chrisitan the last 16 years. I never had music abilities before that. This was my favorite music interview and was deeply helpful. I appreciate both of you having humility and sincerity.
Thank you Brother Phil for sharing so useful information with us with such simplicity and clarity. May The LORD be magnified through you and your life more and more.
Gonna be trying these perspectives. I am probably like the rest of the viewers, I would love to hear this video with Phil’s guitar mixed in without clipping or distorting.
I lead worship for a small church and a couple of small groups. I'm pretty sure I'm not meant to be doing this, because, even though I love worshipping God in song, I can't sing very well, can't play by ear, and when I relax and just try to go with the Spirit's flow, something happens, like my voice will catch or go flat, or I'll play a guitar chord badly and it sounds bad. I have the dubious ability to turn a powerful anointed song into a squashed experience. I keep reminding myself it's not about me, and the Holy Spirit moves in His own way, despite our shortcomings. Is anyone else out there in a similar situation?😅 Thank you for this channel, I love Phil Wickham's songs.
Gotta keep practicing the basic fundamentals of song but do it to the glory of god. If you god sees u do the little things he can trust u with the bigger things. Holy Spirit definitely comes in and does amazing things but u have to put in the work as well. Even king David had to play instruments skillfully but I’m pretty sure he had to practice. So it all goes in one another. And once ur able to focus more on god instead of the music it will come hand to hand. 😊
Keep practicing and preparing. When you sing the note wrong, find the correct one on the guitar and try repeatedly practice the melody. When you ruin a chord, practice it repeatedly. No one cares if you play by ear or not, they only care that the end product is OK, so practice the songs you want to play before hand, just going with the flow is not always good, so prepare the whole set of songs. If you let the worshippers just chose every thing, you may not be able to take the P&W where it should go and it could end up in a narrow alley and die, especially if you can't play by ear. Besides, how often have you been to a concert where they just got up and played by ear?
@@guitarandgospel Thanks for the practical advice! I'll Keep practicing - it makes all the difference - also practicing for upcoming practices with others.
I totally agree that the Lord will use any skill level and that you don't have to completely master all the songs. Sometimes you can just skip a chord and just sing a Capella or you can simplify the chords in preparation. You need to have your heart with the Lord and have some kind of anointing by the Holy Spirit for leading worship / getting people closer to Him. Have you asked people their true opinion or experience with you leading worship? I also had the experience that I personally feel I completely failed and then the people said they so felt the Holy Spirit... And the Lord will guide you - also in your practise. And those humbling experiences aren't necessarily the worst thing... He's still allowing you to lead worship and to grow in the process. I'm leading with a ukulele. And the E chord is a really tricky one... I never did that at first... but then the Lord made me write songs in E and then I had to use and practise it... also fingerpicking. I thought I'd never do it. Now the Lord has made me write a song for a wedding and it's impossible to not fingerpick during the verses. Strumming would be horrible.... so he makes me advance in my timing. 😄🙌... also growing closer to Him is the most important thing...
No need to fear leading worship on acoustic guitar by yourself, I have often found it is easier than getting band members coordinated. The acoustic guitar can easily be a whole band. In fact, Tommy Emanuel used to be in a band in Australia called Dragon, but he is hardly known for that, but rather what he does a a one man band.
For the 5 chord (F#), an even better way to play it is to keep your thumb fretting the low E string (like with the G#m) and then use your index finger to fret the high-E string on the second fret. Otherwise, if you leave the first and second string open on that chord then you get an F#7 from the ringing high-E string, which you often don’t want. Try it! Sounds great. (And for what it’s worth, Yellow by Coldplay features an alternate tuning [EABGBD#], though you can get a decent approximation in standard tuning.)
Hey Markhargravemusic, I just got me a cut capo (3 strings). i love it! Could you please point me to a place to learn in detail about cut capo cord shapes for when you said "for open key of E and A". Thanks man and be blessed!
“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” Romans 10:9 “for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” Romans 10:13 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
Sadly All the good musicians have gone to doing only church music for those who already believe What we need far more of is the adult contemporary writers and performers to bridge the gap between the world and the church as a musician its sooo easy doing church music and praise bands and equipment already set up good sound techs. Everyone already christians sing the same song and you get all the sweet praise the lord pats on the back that was lovely . Where are the modern Randy stonehills keith greens phil keaggys where are they ? Who will take their place? Are their none to take their position? musicians who can book out secular venues with a mix of christian and non christian audience ...thoughtful clever crossover lyrics to reach the masses . Church music has become the comfortable place to be.. Steven curtis chapman recently did a tour of jail concerts with a small band he knows where its at he does praise songs but can head out with adult songs for anyone ....Why has there been such a sad turn that christian musicians only sing to christians? Its so easy doing that... there is zero challenge.. one day i hope we see some really great musicians who can fill the boots of the true christian troubadours but it seems for now its just the cosy sweet teary eyed church music .
There was so much to learn from this but WHY did the host and guest not do something in advance so the guitar could be heard? The sounds was horrible, from a guy whose first point was to say his guitar sound was a foundation.
I find song leaders who are good singers are always in a key too high for the average person out there. Not many of us can hit those notes or have the skill to sing harmony.

Fantastic interview. Phil, we appreciate your music 🎵 and worship. Keep being humble and close to Christ through the scriptures! 😊🙏🎵🥰

I hope you‘ll learn the role of the Holy Spirit by the bible and not by your dopamin-lead emotions.
So you thought to capitalize the word “Taylor” but not the Holy Spirit? Have some respect for the triune God
My God, Christians are the worst!!! I live your comment!

What a blessing of a video!!
I wish the zooms automatic noise cancellation wasn’t active in this video. It hides his guitar sound

listen to his Sing-A-Long Album where he is Acoustic only!
great tips about tuning down and the g#m trik. Love it!
Love your music. Per the chord shapes and voicing Alex Lifeson's technique and style comes to mind. Onward and forward. Peace. >>---->,

Phil, you should checkout a Cut Capo for open key of E and A. You can also use a regular Capo with the Cut Capo.
Thalia Capos, which are awesome, makes a partial capo pad that you can switch out your standard pad with

So very Cool Thanks!
Suspended chords, open drones and bass notes. Taking notes!
Great tip about playing in B. Wish the sound had been better on your guitar.
Ah, Tune Down! Someone else does that------John Fogerty! I have a Taylor 810ce, one of my FAV AG's.
If I tune down a whole step, do I play chords in the same positions as open tuning?
Apparently this is way over my head. Is there somewhere online that can teach this to a beginner?

I love how I can't hear when he's playing guitar
I use a clear pickguard on my acoustic bass because I don't want any pick marks on my bass
. A cheap sticker!
I find song leaders who are good singers are always in a key too high for the average person out there. Not many of us can hit those notes or have the skill to sing harmony.
Great tips but horrible audio on the guitars.
Likely the voice isolation messes it up. For best audio, it would be best if they had separate microphones recording and synced them up in post.
That audio was so terrible I couldn't hear anything he was saying or what his guitar was doing... Oh well.
Solid guitars don’t snap necks lol
What is "Led" Worship? 🤔
basically acoustic driven or mainly acoustic guitar worship sessions
