If someone says a book made no sense I will immediately want to read it, every time 😂

This is such a great topic, loved what you had to say about "boring" books. One persons boring is another's catnip 😻
I think I remember some similar topics in the Ratings and Reviews tag coming up about picking up based on negative reviews, I definitely do so. I think for me humor is a very divisive element, so like I've seen someone use Monty Python style humor as a derogatory, which made me want to read.

ooo that's a very interesting one! that would be a blank smile and nod from me because I've never seen any monty python 😂

@@joreneereads Heh, I would say maybe a comparable option would be someone saying it has "British humor" and they don't like it, I've definitely seen that as well.

This is really interesting discussion. It not something I have really thought about.🤔

Haha I like your point about pretentious and profound being so close together, very true.
This is really interesting! My method of getting books is usually picking it up from the library (blind) because it looks good to me, or getting recommendations from people I trust. More than finding green flags in bad reviews, I always find red flags in good reviews. If it's *too* overly praised, I typically have a bad time 😅

i try to do a fair amount of that and I definitely need to keep doing it more, I sometimes really miss when I used to get all my books that way. on the other hand, I hear about amazing books through the book community that I would never see otherwise. the inverse - red flags in good reviews would be an interesting video as well 🧐

Your point about writing styles really resonates, but for me it's pacing or plot structure. I simply... do not care lol

What a great discussion idea. I don't know that I've ever thought it but I'm sure there are negative reviews that pique my interest. Along the same lines of "racist against white people", any bad review that is complaining of a book being critical of men or being feminist propoganda or the like is an immediate read for me lol
