Really enjoyed the video Andy...and a great time as well! I'm looking forward to catching up with the next episodes in your marathon training. All the best
1.44.29 is a super run Andy. Especially not feeling 100%. I’m aiming for 1.55 at first half of the year in 3 weeks. I’ll need the Gods to smile on me to hit the target. Great running.
Great to see you and Laura on Sunday (Monday 😂) Well done on sticking it out. You definitely set off more conservative than me, I could hardly talk up that first hill and paid for it later 😁 Every race is a learning experience and it’s all part of the fun of being a runner. Hope the adjustments mean an easier race next time 🤞
Hi from Thailand!! Been a while since commenting- always fun to watch from the land of smiles and sun! Fun to think of running in the U.K. hope to be back in the summer
How was your hydration Andy? On those mild, mid-winter days it’s really easy to dehydrate because you aren’t thinking about it as much. That can have a knock effect on digestion as well. Carbs absorb water like a sponge, so you need to drink more with them This raw and honest showing of your running is what I love about your channel. Always something you can learn from a race, good or bad.
@@SAMBAM-Gets-ItNo probs. I had a bit of a bonk on my long run same day this was filmed and first thing coach said was hydration. He was right. I went out for 2 hours and didn’t take any water, thinking i didn’t need any. Stomach cramps are a symptom of dehydration
Cheers Steve, it wasn't the best, and tbh it never is. I know that good hydration should start days before and I might not have drunk enough. I rarely drink on the day - and just take swigs here and there. Pain had started as soon as I started running which made me think it was a gassy feeling from food. Either way - things will change for the big race!
Good work, Andy. Grim that you had to tough it out during the entire race. Cheers again for your coverage of these races. I wouldn't have known what to expect with Warwick had you not made last year's video. I'd like to do Warwick again, but perhaps "Beginner's Luck" is a thing with this race!
When ive used the voom bars ive chopped them into little pieces and put them in a sandwich bag in my runners belt so i can just suck a small bit at a time, didnt have any problems with them sticking together although it was a chilly day in october when i did my marathon, well done for pushing through
I switched my prerace meal from pasta to steak (MR), pepper cream sauce, veg and potatoes. Absolutely delicious and have had no issues so far. To be on the safe side it might be worth taking immodium about an hour before your race.
I feel your pain mate, I had the same issues when I did the Gran Canaria marathon in November. 😩 Better races are to come, but great effort and amazing time still!
Decent effort, Andy. It's definitely not an easy course by any means. I ran it last year and it is still my HM PB of 1:37. The downhill bit at the end is always welcome. Had some similar gut issues myself during a 10k a few years back, and that subsided afterwards as well. Really does affect the mental willpower at the time!
Fair play, honest video, when i did a half in spain in november, i thought i was going to never trust a fart during the race, lucky it was just bad wind 🥴 and ran a good end to the race without incident. 😆 Good to see you on the course sunday.
don't use bar as fuel on a race day. gels only. Chewing is the first part of the digestive process, so think, if anything needs to be chewed it is going to harder for your body to digest and absorb, i.e. you're going to get a stitch and stomach cramps etc. also, chewing and breathing is very difficult.
Dont you sometimes run twice a day Andy ? when I was training for the Berlin marathon I sometimes ran 21 km s in the morning and then 10 kms just past 12 and I did not think it was hard at all. I can for sure recommend it and it gets your mileage up where it shall be and train Your self dicipline. Inga DK.
I was running behind you at about 10k - I noticed you shit yourself a bit, and give your left leg a good shake to dislodge the unwelcome contents and then continue on your merry way while barely missing a beat. It was impressive, and gutted you didn't document it within your video, as it's an issue that many runners encounter. Well done!
Well done, you got through it although it wasn't your day. Next time beforehand a warning please when wearing a yellow beany. Could have spotted you from my home in Finland :D
From what I’ve learned Andy, carb loading is required but especially for marathon plus. But that doesn’t mean a mountain of pasta the night b4. More generally just increasing the percentages of carbs vs non carbs on your plate and eating a bit more overall. I’ve used a meal plan from a TH-cam nutrition guy called James lebaigue (spelling?!!) and he’s totally sorted me.

Thank you Martin - I was pleased with a good time in the end, I just wished it went better.
Great work out there still, sorry to hear about the issues you had on the course, it was great meeting you 🙌🙌
Great to meet you Ryan, and fantastic running on such a gard course. Also well done to Haley too.x

Cheers Gav. All the best with the 1:55! It's coming 💪🏻

Thanks Rach, and great to see you at thr start! These practise races are great for making mistakes in rehearsal for the big day!

See you in summer and hopefully you can bring some sun with you!
Well done Andy, hopefully will bump into u again at a few more events... 👍👌
Nice one Pete and good to meet you bud 👍🏻
Still a decent time mate 👍🏻 I tend to avoid being too full of food the night before. Digestive issues are my worst nightmare. Well done anyway!
Cheers Mark. Yes definitely a big problem of mine, I'm a greedy pig. Next time I will change strategy!

This is super interesting to read! Although I'm pretty good with my hydration, it's good to know that link. TY!

'My race was a sinking ship' - so true!
100% titanic!
Good work, Andy. Grim that you had to tough it out during the entire race.

Cheers mate. You ran really well and by the sounds of things, very sensibly!

Maybe I need to look at a dedicated gel belt/runners belt. Cheers!

Cheers Rod. I've never taken an immediate before a race, how long do you feel clogged up for? Might have to consider it for race day.
@itsonandy I've taken it about half dozen times and usually keeps the cramps at bay for a good 4-5 hours or so without any side effects.
I feel your pain mate, I had the same issues when I did the Gran Canaria marathon in November. 😩
Better races are to come, but great effort and amazing time still!
It's a horrid feeling isn't it! Well done for getting through, yours was a bit hotter than mine!

It's a tough course for sure. Yes it totally affects your mood and its so hard to stay positive!
Well done Andy, respect for running through the pain. I overtook you just after 5k and finished with a PB 1:39:42.
Well done mate! Tough course isn't it. Makes the PB feel even better!
Fair play, honest video, when i did a half in spain in november, i thought i was going to never trust a fart during the race, lucky it was just bad wind 🥴 and ran a good end to the race without incident. 😆
Good to see you on the course sunday.
Nice one Jay - thought that myself at points but turned out OK. Good to see you bud 👍🏻
Great video ❤.
Thank you!
Great run despite your issues. I'd say that carb-loading is a good thing but in the few days beforehand and not the evening before?
Yes in hindsight definitely I think I ate too much!

I cant see myself going back to gels - but thanks for the suggestion!

Mind over matter, you stuck with it dude and got the all important medal around your neck!
Cheers big man! Absolutely mate - I was on a mission to get it done 💪🏻

Hahaha - amazing that there no witnesses either!
Best comment ever!

Hahaha I brought the brightest one they had 😂😂😂 Thanks!
As they say... shit happens 😂
Hahahaha that it does 🤣
👌👍

My problem is I'm a greedy b*stard mate... I've definitely learned my lesson from last week! Cheers mate 👍🏻
@@itsonandy oh me too. Food is so great 😂
@@itsonandy also: the meal plan I use… is not messing around. 4103 calories both days b4 a marathon 😳😳😳
