Sir if we keep the screen inclined still the effective area is the same. Because the flow is taking place in the longitudinal direction and if we keep it inclined then the effective normal area will be the same as in the case of vertically placed screen.
I think I can explain it in different way: If you have a channel with width W and Depth D and you want to put a screen in that channel. In this case, the vertical screen can not exceed the dimension of the channel and the effective area will be (WxD). But if you consider using inclined screen you can use screen with larger area and fit it in the channel.
