    Would Lodge make a companion Cook-It-All in a 8-inch size? Sometime people are not in large families or in groups. It would be nice if all the pieces could interchange between the Cook-It-All, Skillet, and Dutch Oven. On second thought, a 10-inch size would work better than the 8-inch size.

    My great-grandma, my granny, and my mama all cooked using cast iron. Unfortunately, I don't have any of their pieces, but I started my own collection 45 years ago. I love cooking on my cast iron and will pass my collection to my granddaughters. This "cook it all" cast iron looks great for those that camp and want to pack minimal but want great results while cooking outdoors on a campfire. Great job Lodge for another fine product made in the USA!!

    Nothing spurns on creativity like real competition. Field, StarGazer, ButterPat, Field.... Lodge hit a HomeRun on this piece imo. Note to Lodge: please introduce a "new, old style" 10" or 12" skillet to the round-up; smooth, maybe even machined finish, with a nice mid range weight.
    Way to go on the "Cook-All"!

      Too bad those horrible tariffs will likely force them to lay off workers and automate more so that those jobs will never come back.

    • @lordgarion514
      @lordgarion514 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertm4050
      Probably not. There isn't all that much human labor in making a pan, and they don't sell that much. Just wouldn't really be worth it. It takes a very large volume to make the expenses worth it.
      (Coke otoh, spent millions to switch to corn syrup because it saved them just a half cent.... Per can. But they sell a LOT of cans)
      Note: they made the pouring of the molds automatic back in the beginning of the 1950's.

    • @robertm4050
      @robertm4050 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am talking about the tax on metals. It has been a boon for a few metal foundries, but for many businesses that use those metals it has been a heavy burden. Since the pans are made of metal, it will mean their costs go up considerably and this would cause them to find ways to reduce costs and lay off workers. I think cast iron is having a renaissance and it probably makes sense to update factories now while they are selling more than they have in years.

    • @lordgarion514
      @lordgarion514 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertm4050
      The tariffs on metals isn't on all, or even many metals. And iron isn't one of the metals that have had tariffs added by the idiot.. Steel and aluminum have nee tariffs
      But even then, a 25% increase in something as cheap as what common metals are isn't much extra cost when you're talking about things that only have a few pounds at most.
      Not to mention that most things made in America already have more profit built in than they should. So they're overpriced already. If the increase in tariffs makes them raise prices and it hurts sales they can just make due with less profit TBH.

    I think this is a really attractive innovation, but... I have a decent collection of Lodge cookware already. Whatever this thing can do, I can already do. Just one person's opinion: The best of the best are, 1) The Lodge 14" cast iron wok and 2) the Lodge 14" pizza pan. With those two items, you can do anything that can be done. Be it in the kitchen or on the campfire.

    Really nice innovation here Lodge. I may get this one. I do wish you would up the finish and smooth the inside of your skillets more even it it makes them cost more. Or perhaps have a high tier line. Starting to get more USA made competition that had this edge and I think you can make as good for much better cost. And your basic designs are very good.

    I’m not sure why this item is significantly preferable to the 12 inch Lodge Dutch oven I already own, which is excellent. The Dutch oven is shallow enough to reach into for sautéing, but deeper than the item in this video, so it holds more, I think. The lid can be used as a griddle as well. Thoughts?

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the dutch oven has a thicker lid and better edge for holding coals. thicker is better for even browning when baking. the spike feet are also better for use in a fire or coal bed.

    • @dansklrvids7303
      @dansklrvids7303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      marzsit - thanks. I’m wondering if the increased diameter of the new product - looks like 14” - makes it better for cooking that needs a larger surface - pizza, sautéing for a crowd, etc.

    • @robbyritter4245
      @robbyritter4245 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a 12" camp oven also and I was wondering the same thing too. The camp oven's downside is that it probably weighs more, but I really can't see how the do-it-all could be that much more versatile unless you just want grill marks on your steaks, and possibly a little less weight.

    • @dansklrvids7303
      @dansklrvids7303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robby Ritter I agree. Yes this new pot can do a couple of things that the Dutch oven can’t do, but the new pot is so shallow - there are things that the Dutch oven can do, like roast a chicken or anything else large. It would be interesting to know the total volume of the new pot.

    • @dansklrvids7303
      @dansklrvids7303 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robby Ritter Also, unless there is some provision for this that they didn’t show in the video, the Dutch oven can be suspended from a tripod over the fire.

    How do you keep the finish intact when you put one side over the coals and then later flip it over and cook on that side? Seems like it would burn all the seasoning off each time and you would have to start over reseasoning it to keep food from sticking? Thanks.

      Campfire is, imo (from experience), among the very best ways to season cast iron; depending on the wood used, red oak for i, one may impart another level of adhesion to the seasoning. As a general rule i never allow my c.i. to become overly hot.

    • @chrissewell1608
      @chrissewell1608 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Right, guys! These things are made to throw onto a fire or bed of coals, but not into a 15,000 degree fire. To much heat will completely strip the seasoning off, back to bare metal. Even more heat can warp, crack or melt the pan! But Most camp cooking fires never get that hot, or we wouldn't be there cooking!

    Looks cool. Question: does this stack? Can I put my dutch oven on it, or would it be too wobbly, with the center dealie instead of legs under it?

    For the price there should be a added dome cover that doubles as a sauce pan.

    I like this but I'm not a big fan of lodge. I have 2 cast iron pans, one is a lodge and the other is a small logo #6 griswold. I cleaned and seasoned them both the same way and stuff still sticks in the lodge where griswold is like Teflon.

    very nice! im sure I'll have to add this to my collection someday. Hats off to Lodge as I didnt think there could be another cast iron product left to discover! Only issue I have is that the quality control is horrendous. You can see it in the pictures on the website for the 14cia. The grind marks and slag on the premier launch makes me wonder why even make a big deal about a new "release". My last purchase of a Lodge product had the same type of issue... all 6 pieces had horrible DEEP grinding marks, (I should say gouges). after complaining to the vender I was referred to the HMF'er in-charge, only to get a song and a dance. The excuse was these are one of a kind pieces and the marks give it a special appeal. Now I usually clean up my new purchases and grind/sand edges smooth along the outer diameter...makes them look a little more "top shelf". The gouges were too deep to try and remove. sorry but Wamlmart junk cast iron looks better JMHO

      Michael/ ARE YOU BUYING SECONDS OR REJECTS??? MAYBE YOU NEED TO SHOP SOMEWHERE BESIDES A DISCOUNT STORE OR FLEA MARKET!!! IV'E BOUGHT SEVERAL PIECES OF LODGE CAST IRON OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS.I INSPECTED THEM,THEY WERE ALL FINE.I DON'T LIKE THE NEW SO-CALLED SEASONING,BUT IV'E NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!!! JUST USE THEM,THEY GET BETTER AND BETTER!!!

      ezrabrooks12 check the website and Xoom in on the picture of the kettle....you'll see what I mean... don't get me wrong, I love Lodge...I clean all them up when I get them. Just got a few pieces where they ground too far into the pieces to remove the casting burrs. I wish I could post pictures... check the website for L14CIA. No I don't buy seconds or discount Lodge material...it should not leave the factory...
