Aww that’s so sweet, my grandma taught me how to knit I bet your daughter or granddaughter if you have any would love that time with you. I know I’ll always remember it fondly, and every time I knit or crochet I think of my grandma.
Same here, Mom passed 6 yrs ago and I inherited all her sewing, yarns and every craft you can think of. Plus I had my own collections of yarn and sewing items. I have also rcvd loads of yarn from friends. Mom taught me to crochet and my sister taught me to knit. Both are no longer with us but I think of them everytime I go thru my totes of yarn. I originally had sorted by brand names. But last week, I sorted all by colors. Last count was 13 totes from 17 (I've knitted a lot this year). These are 18 gal totes every single one of them. This week, I have taken all balls of yarn and turning into cakes....oh and not only did I inherite Mom's craft room, I inherited her dog and her husband for the last 6 years, however, Dad passed last year. (thank goodness I have a nephew that fished, guess what he inherited, yep, 46 rods and 32 reels and everything else under the sun) 😉
3 years late but im glad im not the only one with a stash that looks like this! My new years resolution 2024 is to use up as much as my stash as possible, im at 13 skeins so far!

@@ashleysimmons3210 I am by no means an expert, and you should do your own googling on this, but in my opinion for Amigurumi you should leave it scratchy, you'll generally get better structure from it. If you plan to make toys for kids, blankets, or wearables, make the pieces from it, and then you can wash them. Google for your specific fibre content to work out what to wash them with for softness - could be anything from vinegar to shampoo! And always test-wash on a swatch :)

I have started a big organization project on both my yarns AND fibers (because I spin as well)! Oh boy! That wasn't fun. Took me 3 weeks to totally write down and organize it all. I typed up a list of what I have in each bin. And I photographed the yarns and fiber which I will eventually put on Ravelry. I've already given away some also. My goal is to seriously do a "Stashdown" this year and try to avoid buying so I can use what I have. I've fallen back in love with my stash. I'm still trying to figure out some good shelving units to store it in upstairs in my craft room for the yarn/fibers I'm currently focusing on using. I figure that "out of sight" is "out of mind." So to best use it, I need to keep it in front of me!

I had to tear down the flimpsy clear/wire cubbies that kept falling apart in my craft room and I just bought some white particle board shelving that I got from Target that I hope will hold it better. And I still have some large bins that I will continue to store downstairs. However, the difference is, this time I've labeled them all by yarn weight/color and have the novelty yarns in a separate bin. I've also photographed and made a list of it all so I never have an "out of sight/out of mind" problem again (hopefully). 2021 is now my "Stashdown" year. Good luck on yours!
Um, wow, that is a collection. And I was getting concerned that I was filling one bin with no projects in mind. This is why you keep things together, though, so you know exactly how much you have.
You made me feel SO MUCH BETTER about my yarn stash. I mean, I have about as much as you do, and the sad thing is, I donated about six trash bags full of acrylics to a thrift store, so OMG, how much did I have BEFORE THAT????

I'm happy to see you use zip loc bags. I love putting my yarns in those,,,so much easier to keep track of and to pack into containers...yes..yes...yes!!
I use white plastic, stackable bins. They sort of look like those for kids toys with the opening in the front & you can see the yarn. Each one holds a lot of yarn and I have 2 rows stacked 5 high. The rest I have in large totes and tote like cloth laundry baskets with handles and in large, round wire baskets.
We all can relate. We buy yarn to do a project. We end up with some leftovers so we buy more yarn to use with the first yarn to use all of it. Then we see something online that we want to try to do. Then when we go grocery shopping.......well, we do HAVE to walk by those horribly tempting yarn aisles. Then a friend or relative gives us yarn they have left after a project or bought to do a project then lost interest. The good thing is we can always use it, sell it, or donate it. It won't go to waste!
LOL I have the same disorganization in my house... I live in France and I see that all around the world and countries it's the same problem 😁😄Yarn storage is problematic. I bought shelves, I will see how I organize yarn skein... For the moment they are in basket, in bag, in boxes. I can't wait to see what it will be like
Gosh! I surely need your help in a BIG way! I have yarn in totes, bags, drawers, boxes, crates, bins, on shelves...& some hiding from my Hubby :) I have some around my chair in bags & boxes, some in cupboards & some in my storage room. I even have mixed bags that I got from the Goodwill store. I really don't know what I really have but I wouldn't be shocked if it was double what you have - how shocking! I buy yarn with a project in mind, then I start another project, then another (bc I get bored of it)...& then the process starts all over again. Maybe I should *MAKE* myself finish what I have started before doing anything else? It's a sad sad neverending circle for me, lol! It was very soothing to me to watch you sort your yarn - may I say...inspiring :)
I can relate to your stash of yarn. I find a lot of TH-cam hosts do yarn reviews. They sell me on a yarn and I buy it when I really don’t need it. I also have yarn tucked in every corner of my three bedroom house and I live alone. You can imagine. I do knit and crochet for my church donations but that doesn’t put a dent in my stash.
This video was filmed in November 2020, and im pleased to report that I've only yarn shopped once since. My yarn stash is now about half the size it was in this video, so there is hope! 🙂

I had to use ikea parkla bags to organize my yarn. I brought home the yarn I have in my storage unit & organized each different kind in it's own bag. Then the pieces that were partially used I divided by type of yarn & put em together. I'm up to 54 bags & still haven't gotten all the yarn sorted. But I think you should try parkla bags.
Okay just found this and going to check out more. I didn't completely understand how you sorted into categories , colors and weights, I get. I am trying to figure out how best to organize my yarn. Looking for ideas. 😉
It's just stuff like "keep the furry/sparkly/strange stuff separate" and "don't mix your cheap acrylic that frays really easily in with the acrylic that photographs nicely". Also, if I'm honest I need to organise mine again, it's been 4 months and things are slowly de-organising themselves...😂
You should count it! It's a super fun activity for the first 2 hours, and then it becomes an itchy, dusty nightmare that makes you appreciate why you haven't counted before! XD

so I have 3 Ikea bookshelves that each have 6 shelves. Each shelf holds 3 cube bins. The entirety of all 3 shelves is full of yarn ... and I also have a few 56 quart storage tubs full of little odds and ends as well as project bags with half-done items. Oh, and the trunk of my car is full of yarn... HOWEVER. I just bought myself a Stanwood 10 oz winder and I cannot WAIT to cake all my partials and organize them properly!

You said you "sorted by category [3:01];" what categories did you sort in before you sorted by weight? And 2. What size plastic bags did you use to put the yarn in?
My yarn used to fit in two large drawers of a small set of drawers (stands about waist height) and then I went yarn shopping.... now I have twice as much. Oops.
Not offensive, don't worry 🙂 I can't imagine anyone would want my decade-old yarn and honestly, I really do use it. I am thinking about doing give aways at subscriber milestones as a thank you to everyone 💜 but I'd make sure it was nicer yarn than my dusty old stash 😂

Just a little tip, if you were to vaccum out some of the air in the zip lock bags you would be able to fit more bags in the boxes 😁

You know that you can just get a plastic tote bin for all your bagged yarn and you would probably use only 1 instead of 6 cloth tote bins. 😍🥰😘😻😇😎❤️💕🦊🐺

Not offensive, don't worry 🙂 I can't imagine anyone would want my decade-old yarn and honestly, I really do use it. I am thinking about doing give aways at subscriber milestones as a thank you to everyone 💜 but I'd make sure it was nicer yarn than my dusty old stash 😂
