I made this pattern following your instructions and was very happy with it. Today I decided to make another one, and I decided to try something I hoped would work. When I end the round, I wrap the yarn twice around the hook, and then slip stitch to the top of the beginning DC. I then work a treble crochet and that puts my work exactly in the middle of the ending chain. The treble crochet counts as the ending chain. I work a single crochet in the treble crochet and then do two chains (counts as a double crochet) and then proceed to work the pattern. One can't even tell where the rounds begin and end. I hope if anyone tries this, they will find it much easier to end the round, and start the next round.
I'm relatively new to crochet at 68 (never too old to learn!) and you've made the instruction so clear that I had no problem following along. It took me a bit to "get" the pattern but now I'm off and running to a lovely new baby blanket. Thank you so much!

I made 4 panels using this video lesson. I then stitched those 4 panels to make a poncho. I did 3 rounds of front post, back post double crochet and one round of single crochet for the neckline. I used 2 weight cotton yarn and it made a nice airy fabric. Thank you for the great lessons.

I am so Grateful to watch a crochet tutorial that doesn’t explain how to do a double crochet stitch over and over. I agree those tutorials need to exist for the beginner (I learned to crochet from TH-cam 😁), but, I know I’m not alone when I say that it gets a bit tedious to listen to when you already know how and you just want to watch the pattern unfold. I am definitely going to do this blanket and maybe play around with doing squares of this pattern and piecing them together. So much fun to be had. I know you said use a solid color but I am a rebel and used Red Heart Ombre in blue. OMG it is beautiful with the slow change. With the pattern you almost can't see where the color darkens or fades, it is like magic. Love your work Fiber Spider. I always look forward to your new videos, it's like having my own crochet circle with a good friend, you make it so much fun.
I would love to see a photo of how this looks. I also lose interest with a solid color and want to use a Medela cake but only has about five to six colors per entire ball.

I get why you say solid color yarn is best for this pattern, but try making it with super saver ombre. The gradient effect is beautiful. It will need softening afterwards but the results are gorgeous.

If you’re looking for sheen, I love the soft, cottony feel and slight polish of Caron Simply Soft yarn. It’s easy care acrylic, but very silky feeling. It’s my go-to for baby blankets. 😉

For various reasons these past few months I haven’t felt up to crocheting but today I have finally started crocheting again and started this blanket. I’m using a plain white what I think is a 4-ply and using a 3mm hook and only two chains in the corners I’m making a baby blanket now my daughter is nearing the end of her pregnancy. Thanks again.

Thank you for taking the time out to explain the pattern in detail and showing us the stitches after you make it not every body does that. Other you tubers that give instructions Can learn from you. The way you explained this pattern i was able to do it without any problems.
Donna - here's what I did. Ch12. Skip 6 chains 2dc - ch3 - 1 dc in next chain, Dc in next 4 chains. In last chain 1 dc ch3 2 dc-ch3 - 1 dc. Working on the unused loops of the chain - 1 dc in each of next 4. Join with a slip stitch 3 ch of skipped 6 chains. You end up with a rectangle with 2 dc on short end and 6 dc on long end. Then work like round 2 for short end and round 3 for long end.
I'm crocheting this blanket and I love crocheting it. It is so easy to do. So thank you for the pattern for the blanket. It is so easy to follow you to make the blanket.

Harriet Horne Hi Harriet, What I noticed at the beginning of Row 5 it’s a chain up of 5, two double crochets, then a chain of two. Next step is to skip two double crochet and double crochet into every double crochet until you reach the chain 2 space. Row 6 starts with a change of 5. Two double crochet into corner space (No Chains) then double crochet into each double across until you reach the chain two space. Row 5 (18:54) Row 6 (24:25) I suggest you use two different color stitch markers one color for row 5 and the other color for row 6 and write which color belongs to which row in your notes...until you get use to the pattern . I had to restart twice. I took notes for each row and assigned two different color stitch markers for row 5 and row 6. I hope I was of some assistance to you. Enjoy your evening, Penny
@@penley-annscreationspenny Hi, Penny. Thanks for responding to the question, but this still doesn't explain why three of the four corners have 3 chains and the beginning corner only has 2. If the chain up is 5 stitches, then either the step up for the dc should be 2 stitches or the corners (all of them) should be 2 stitches. I've been crocheting for more than 35 years and I've never seen one corner be a different number of stitches than the others. Of course, I didn't design this pattern so, if there is a reason it was designed this way, I'd really like to know it so I can actually remember it. :-) I've never been very good at remembering stuff when I don't understand the reason for it.
MsMikkiC Hi, I’m not sure where the corner with chain is started (row 2?) Spider Fiber did state that he created the pattern and placed the fifth dc below because it worked the best...with that said maybe the different in a corner of 2 chains and not three made the pattern work. I laughed when you said you don’t learn unless you understand why it’s done that way. I also, need to see it in my brain to fully understand it. If I can’t twist and turn the information I may perform the task but, not fully understanding why. I noticed with the repeat of rows 5 & 6 it is a chain 3 then 2 dc depends on which row it leads to a chain 2 or 2 more dc before advancing to dc into each stitch across until the next chain two space. I have not been crocheting as long as you on a constant basis. The pattern makes sense to me when I’m repeating rows 5 & 6 and everything is lined up. I’m hoping FS reply to explain why he did a chain 2. Thanks, Penny

Thanks for creating "Which Way Filet".... Which is a PERFECT name. Loved it immediately, kind of catchy...lol. Now when u did the odd dc at the end of row 2, right before you slst in chain at corner..... Here's what I did, cuz my corner didn't look good at all. I pulled the row out and chained 6 (instead of 5) as you start row 2. I went around again according to your instructions, BUT instead of working a dc in the space 'below', I changed it and worked 2 dc in the last dc stitch (instead of 1 and the odd dc in space below) and then did slst in the 4th chain of the Ch 6 (which I added, instead of your Ch 5). It looks great now, for me. I admire you for being able to have yours turn out so perfect doing what u did. I've noticed for years (I'm almost 68), that we all crochet at different tensions using the exact same size needle, brand of needle and same yarn. Why it's different for some of us...who knows!!! We must be biting our tongues, curling our toes or just sitting awkwardly....lol. I'm just glad it worked for me! Tried the VIRUS pattern earlier and it curled on me in the 2nd row. Go figure!!! Now, I stopped to tell u this, so I'm going to continue on with u now. Thanks so much for creating this beautiful design. I'm turning it into an afghan. Changing colors after many years, want a new look, new (almost everything) so this will be great on any piece of future furniture. Btw, you're a GENIUS to create this. I think he meant dont use varigated due to it getting lost w pattern striping yarn/changing yarn wont get lost so easily

If you’re looking for sheen, I love the soft, cottony feel and slight polish of Caron Simply Soft yarn. It’s easy care acrylic, but very silky feeling. It’s my go-to for baby blankets. 😉

For various reasons these past few months I haven’t felt up to crocheting but today I have finally started crocheting again and started this blanket. I’m using a plain white what I think is a 4-ply and using a 3mm hook and only two chains in the corners I’m making a baby blanket now my daughter is nearing the end of her pregnancy. Thanks again.

Donna - here's what I did.
Ch12. Skip 6 chains 2dc - ch3 - 1 dc in next chain, Dc in next 4 chains. In last chain 1 dc ch3 2 dc-ch3 - 1 dc. Working on the unused loops of the chain - 1 dc in each of next 4. Join with a slip stitch 3 ch of skipped 6 chains. You end up with a rectangle with 2 dc on short end and 6 dc on long end. Then work like round 2 for short end and round 3 for long end.
I'm crocheting this blanket and I love crocheting it. It is so easy to do. So thank you for the pattern for the blanket. It is so easy to follow you to make the blanket.

Hi Fiber Spider I have a question for you: why are the corners 3 chains but the first corner is 2 chains? Maybe all the corners are 2 chains but you misspoke? Please let me know. By the way, I love your patterns especially the Butterflies square pattern. Thanks

What I noticed at the beginning of Row 5 it’s a chain up of 5, two double crochets, then a chain of two.
Next step is to skip two double crochet and double crochet into every double crochet until you reach the chain 2 space.
Row 6 starts with a change of 5. Two double crochet into corner space (No Chains) then double crochet into each double across until you reach the chain two space.
Row 5 (18:54)
Row 6 (24:25)
I suggest you use two different color stitch markers one color for row 5 and the other color for row 6 and write which color belongs to which row in your notes...until you get use to the pattern .
I had to restart twice. I took notes for each row and assigned two different color stitch markers for row 5 and row 6.

@@penley-annscreationspenny Hi, Penny. Thanks for responding to the question, but this still doesn't explain why three of the four corners have 3 chains and the beginning corner only has 2. If the chain up is 5 stitches, then either the step up for the dc should be 2 stitches or the corners (all of them) should be 2 stitches. I've been crocheting for more than 35 years and I've never seen one corner be a different number of stitches than the others. Of course, I didn't design this pattern so, if there is a reason it was designed this way, I'd really like to know it so I can actually remember it. :-) I've never been very good at remembering stuff when I don't understand the reason for it.

I’m not sure where the corner with chain is started (row 2?) Spider Fiber did state that he created the pattern and placed the fifth dc below because it worked the best...with that said maybe the different in a corner of 2 chains and not three made the pattern work. I laughed when you said you don’t learn unless you understand why it’s done that way. I also, need to see it in my brain to fully understand it. If I can’t twist and turn the information I may perform the task but, not fully understanding why.
I noticed with the repeat of rows 5 & 6 it is a chain 3 then 2 dc depends on which row it leads to a chain 2 or 2 more dc before advancing to dc into each stitch across until the next chain two space.
I have not been crocheting as long as you on a constant basis.
The pattern makes sense to me when I’m repeating rows 5 & 6 and everything is lined up.
I’m hoping FS reply to explain why he did a chain 2.

Thanks for creating "Which Way Filet".... Which is a PERFECT name. Loved it immediately, kind of catchy...lol. Now when u did the odd dc at the end of row 2, right before you slst in chain at corner..... Here's what I did, cuz my corner didn't look good at all. I pulled the row out and chained 6 (instead of 5) as you start row 2. I went around again according to your instructions, BUT instead of working a dc in the space 'below', I changed it and worked 2 dc in the last dc stitch (instead of 1 and the odd dc in space below) and then did slst in the 4th chain of the Ch 6 (which I added, instead of your Ch 5). It looks great now, for me. I admire you for being able to have yours turn out so perfect doing what u did. I've noticed for years (I'm almost 68), that we all crochet at different tensions using the exact same size needle, brand of needle and same yarn. Why it's different for some of us...who knows!!! We must be biting our tongues, curling our toes or just sitting awkwardly....lol. I'm just glad it worked for me! Tried the VIRUS pattern earlier and it curled on me in the 2nd row. Go figure!!! Now, I stopped to tell u this, so I'm going to continue on with u now. Thanks so much for creating this beautiful design. I'm turning it into an afghan. Changing colors after many years, want a new look, new (almost everything) so this will be great on any piece of future furniture. Btw, you're a GENIUS to create this.
