Looks great but I would want a ballistic parachute!!
Already has one: th-cam.com/video/oBkdlExHR1A/w-d-xo.html
@@b.robinson206 thank goodness for that, thank you for sharing the link 👍
And a IC engine 🤣
@@lucar.923 With CATL's condensed matter batteries, this aircraft would outperform a similar craft with an ICE engine.
And enough altitude for it to work as designed
As a small fixed wing pilot, I was a lot more comfortable once he had some airspeed up!
I doubt it makes much of difference. Doubt its really glidable or controllable in the event of complete power loss.
Means nothing because it only has lift because of the motors. You’ll drop like a rock.
@@bro9479It's probably like gliding a Stits Sky Baby with the motors stopped
Just how small are you? How do you see through the windshield? How do you reach the pedals?
@@bro9479 It does have wings and is light so it would at least have a chance of gliding.
With a craft of this type, take off should be quick and rise to safe parachute working height as quick as possible. Obviously if something goes wrong before you reach safe parachute deployment height, you're screwed. However hugging the earth at a low height could be more dangerous, if something goes wrong, even if you have a ballistic parachute on board. With all these quad copter technologies , whereby no actual lift, or very little lift is generated by the craft, then it's absolutely vital that a safe height flying profile is mait ntained at all times. This is a great flying machine, and looks great fun!
I think it needs landing gear and some short of g's absorbable matterial at the belly in case of a mulfunction or harsh landing. Maybe a rapid inflate foam or air department. (Like an airbag).
I really enjoy paraglider videos - so elemental! This is gonna be even better!
Hope it has a ballistic parachute.
The retrograde landing maneuver tells me that,
A: extensive simulator training will be required, or B: there’s going to some crashed ‘flys needing repairs!
Admire the idea of the craft, though I wonder about the actual product.
We shall be watching for updates.
It's very likely just a button you hit to Auto land.
The takeoff was quite obviously Auto take off so..
@@ashhawk2346 Same as most consumer drones, one button landing, one button takeoff.
Fantastic. Thank you so much for posting.
Amazing!! 3-5 minute flight time?
This is really incredible technology coupled with balls of steel!
And no brainsk
So cool!🦾
A pivotal moment
A pivotal moment in the story of flying washing machines...
Awesome job guys!
A very promising concept. It combines transitioning function with a very low number of moving parts. This will provide cost efficiency in traveling fast. I am curious about what's next.
It has eight motors and eight electronic speed controllers, giving a total of sixteen points of failure. If one of those sixteen dies, you are dead.
Compare the safety of this device to an electrically powered glider.
One failure shouldn’t cause a crash. A six motor drone can make a controlled landing with one of its five motors dead. This should be able to survive at least one possibly two dead props
Ditch the music
I don't mean to piss on anyone's parade, but just what exactly is the company behind this trying to accomplish?
Where would one park this thing at their office?
How much would the electrical bill cost each month to keep this charged enough to make it to and from work each day and then maybe a little trip here and there over the weekend?
What happens when just one of the motors begins to struggle a little? How does their software handle that situation? And what if there is a power loss due to a hidden fault in that particular battery pack? Remember "Houston, we have a problem"? Hidden flaws can rear their ugly heads in any component, at any time, in any place, at any altitude, and this craft has a simple-to-calculate glide path when they do: straight down.
Where does one take it for maintenance? How will replacement parts be acquired if the company begins to financially struggle so parts manufacturing has to take a back seat to paying the employees?
Don't get me wrong: this is a beautiful toy that should make a few millionaires squeal with delight. But for the life of me, that's about as far as I could see this thing -- or any other craft like it -- penetrate the market for single-person aircraft.
I think this could be used as a fixed wing aircraft similar to the Quickie Q1. It would need some wheels and perhaps a regular takeoff mode. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutan_Quickie
@@pctrashtalk2069 Rutan sold 350 over 50 years. That's about 1 every 2 months. Not exactly a game changer.
That’s what your Great Grandfather said about the airplane.
@@freddymax5256 That would be my grandfather, not my great-grandfather. Grandpa served in the Navy in both WWI and WWII, and had no problems with airplanes.
My argument is that it doesn't matter if they can get this thing up and off the ground and slowly run it about. It just will NOT become a common mode of transportation in today's cities. Where would they land? How many could land there? What happens when one rotor blade or motor has the slightest problem?
Just for fun. Tought myself to fly a Basic 4000, single seat, did some time on Cesna/Piper/Q2/KR2/Lanceiar. Nothing beats the Basic. The only time I felt allive. Sure this thing will do the same. Some guys climb buildings with bare hands. Just for fun. Just say'n.. 😊
no auto rotation to land safely, no wings to glide in unpowered. Just drop like a rock....not for me.
There are safety systems, including a parachute. 🙄
@@awo1fman pretty sure a parachute isn't going to work at such a low altitude, lmfao. No safety system will save you in this deathtrap. It's why they do not exist outside of experiment craft in private airspace. Wake up.
@@awo1fmanThe only thing a parachute will do at that altitude is cover the crumpled wreckage.
Yea but he put on a jumpsuit.
Trump should try hawking them on HSN…."Comes with FREE bible!"
I know it’s probably dangerous but I’d love to fly it.
It has a Perspex floor so pilot can judge glide angle during engine-out.
Judging his crash speed is all he can do.
Floor would be helpful for seeing where you land as well
See through floor would be helpful for lining up a normal landing as well. Some helicopters have see through floors for this same reason
Isn't this revolutionary eVTOL 2 years old? A paper-thin carbon fiber (uncertified) multi-copter that will never see prime time, like all the rest (use at your own risk). I'm following Wisk, the Boeing green/eScam write off, since it made a very public splash last year at Long Beach. Update in two years. Bets on regular commuter service?
Zero chance. Vaporware.
During the flight I constantly thought he should stay closer to the ground in case of a malfunction. That being said, I WANT ONE!
Awesome!!
The dream is alive!
I would love one of these in the garage..
Congratulations!!
Cool! Good job! Stéph.
That had to be awesome.
🤩👍 Wunderbar!
I think this channel is shadow banned or something
Death waiting to fall from the sky.
How cool 30 minutes of flight. We have come so far.
How much for a 180 second flight?
i have issues with the primary flight display being a tablet.
M83 are fantastic but not required here! Incredible aircraft though.
AWSOME!
This is a great evolution from FPVs and a nice step on the way to affordable personal flight. So many doubters in the comments, but I am glad to see people are still willing to put their life on the line to push the frontiers of human experience. How long until we see them being raced with Red Bull logos on the side?
it will get band then regulated to beyond affordable
It's a cool toy but I see no practical purpose for it other than experimentation. Very limited range and probably no recharge options other than at the takeoff point.
It has an adapter for Tesla supercharger network!
It does not have to be bad just because you don’t understand where it can be used.
It's total garbage 😅
The right stuff mate.
How long will it fly for?
Only thing missing is the ballistic parachute. Really cool
Same cost as a Titan sub ride, what a coincidence.
Hope it has an emergency chute in the event of disaster, although it won’t help in the v-tol phase.
So funny Peter Sripol put his dad in his huge quadcopter vtol.
So sick!!!
If the motors die so do you !
How’s the glide ratio? 😮
Such a goofy concept
OK. When appears version equipped with K-36MD I will try it.
Congratulations on getting to manned flight. It looked a little abrupt on the launch, and a touch rough on landing.
I don't think you're going to sell many, but I'd bet on the systems you develop for safety and flight control are going to be technologies you will sell to many manufacturers with less radical designs.
Just for clarity: this wasn’t the first manned flight for the craft. This video is the first flight for that particular pilot.
I imagine that this thing has, probably, like Lilium, triple redundant battery/electronics, and can hover with 1/2 motor power.
We need these in rural areas for emergency first response.
If you crash in a rural area you won't get any response.😂
It is my opinion that the nose-skyward takeoff and the rear downward landings are going to relegate this craft to the bottom of the heap as far as "man carrying drones" go. I was also surprised to see how little actual LEVEL flight was achieved during this test.
I’m with you on the attitude for T/O & landing. But just for clarity: this wasn’t a “test.” This video is just that particular pilot’s first flight in a Blackfly.
Byron or Rio Vista?
Absolutely needs a parachute system. Not if but when this has an electrical failure your done...
The smile says it all.
Of course he’s smiling. It’s an advertisement.
Great for its 3 minute range.
An electric airplane with no glide ratio. What could possibly go wrong?
No worse than helicopters etc....?
The helicopter uses autorotation in the event of engine failure, with which it can be landed safely.
Is it possible for me to do a review video of this?
I'd rather have a Cub
Nice
I still wonder why there are no landing skids on this craft.
Why is it leaning back during take off and landing.
Hope it has a built-in emergency rescue system....
Could always do better without the dramatic music. I hate music in Aircraft videos. How come car videos dont have these magical fantasy music overlaid? No one learns.
Well done. You made a crappier more expensive type of plane
Stone with bows. Камень с бантиками
It would be nice if it had simple landing gear on it so it could moved easily without the external wheel setup. Also why takeoff vertically when you could do a very short takeoff and have more forward visibility? Flexibility would be nice. Sure there would be a weight penalty but if you go somewhere you are not going to be able to move it on the ground.
Congratulations on a successful flight of an amazing design and build. Looking forward to more!
How about certificates
It is a Ultralight category due to the light weight so the regulations are minimal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultralight_aircraft_(United_States)
Strap missiles to it on your next promo and your minted.
What would happen in this craft if there was total engine or power failure?
Depending on the altitude, thinking about life choices for one to several seconds.
He would have to land.
Try the sim... good idea! But how?
I want one.
What's with everyone saying too dangerous and even a parachute wont save you? Name any aircraft that is 100% safe or even close until you have completed your climb out and set for cruise. The take-off and landing phases for any aircraft is the most critical and dangerous.
Airplanes glide, helicopters auto rotate. This thing falls, from any altitude.
🆒😎👍!
Will await the jetson flying car.
Amazing choice for the soundtrack! I love that song.
Why not have a couple of feet to stand that thing straight upright on the landing.
Pilot? What pilot?
Popped CB and your fokkered!
I call it the Spruce Goose… get in Smithers! 💀 lol, just kidding, looks amazing, are they available on Amazon yet?
Temu. 😜
Damn...
proper landing gear would make it look a bit more complete
I agree, but with this design, it's just more weight with little payoff.
Very nice. Kinda over dramatic though. Grass strips seem to be the common landing option. Not a good work commuter. Especially to a parking lot made of concrete.
Why though?
Ya know, as far as the ballistic shoot, 🤔think I’d rather have 4 small rockets to slow the landing…ala Falcon booster recovery technology.
Yes that could work, however it won't fit the FAA's definition of an "EVTOL Ultra Light" which the blackfly is going for!
Why did they design this thing with such poor ground visibility below the pilot? I fly a gyrocopter because of the great visibility & long flight time-range!
No air foil to glide if motors fail. A fatality is imminent!
You didn’t see the wings on the front and back?
Can it maintain flight with only 4 motors? I think id have a chute on it, but then again I wouldnt fly it anyway because im a coward when it comes to gravity.
I think the design of this is very cool.
Except that it is (by law) an aeroplane, and as such, it is bound by all the laws of aviation.
Repeat after me: THERE WILL NEVER BE A FLYING CAR.
i hope you dont use made in china batteries
And just who else makes those batteries? 😂
Death trap
If you thought helicopters were noisy.......
Why not just make a drone car.
We call the people who fly in these things crash test dummies. These things are a waste of human endeavour and the Earth’s resources.
A goose would destroy that….
With giant pinwheels as a backdrop, to boot. This is so wrong on so many levels.
Can't be any good if women are involved . Where are the black guys ?
Bin the music it’s pants. And no female will ever be able to fly this aircraft… why? Because you have to reverse it down 😂😂
Silly stuff.
