Heads up: That's not a "sterling by music man". That's a music man sterling. A model they don't make anymore and really good. I was a fan whenever I got my hands on one.
Hello you beautiful people, old timer bass player here, Just wanted to tell you guys that the music man bass is an original Ernie ball music man model, not from the cheaper sterling series, and much more valuable. This bass models name is Sterling, (after Sterling Ball and he designed it as far as i know.) It differs from the stingray models in different ways, the pickup has a different magnet material and distance to the bridge, the preamp is different, and the three way switch is for parallel and series ,and lastly for single coil (with a ghost coil to cancel out hum! how cool is that!). The visual cues is that the body is smaller than the stingray, and no controlplate, the neck is slimmer and not so wide, the differences between these basses ar like the differences between a p-bass and a jazz bass (ish), the sound is different also. This is a lovely bass, it is one of my main basses, and i can see the confusion as it is called the same as the budget series, it has got to create a lot of confusion. The joe dart signatures are designed over this bass, just without the active electronics. Keep up the good work, i enjoy the videos and enjoy the vibe , you two have a nice day
Thanks for all the great info! We got it for around $800 iirc and I'm just not as knowledgeable about basses! Maybe it's worth doing a separate video on this one
Nice collection! How cool that you both play instruments, and together sometimes. I wish I had someone nearby to collaborate with. I have a Mexican Fender Jazz Bass (standard or E flat) and an Ibanez SR405EQM 5 string bass that I tune down a whole step (ADGCF), I also own 7 Ibanez RGs, a Schecter C-7, and a Fender acoustic/electric (the electronics need fixed, but it's a very nice acoustic).
In the quest for a quality short scale, a look at the G&L Fallout is a must. I have 3 of the Tribute series Fallout basses and they are fantastic. All bought through G&L direct, one as B-stock clearance and the other two as "garage sale" items that needed a little work. But still all great basses
@@GetOffset the Ed Friedland review sold me on the idea. The good deals I got helped it grow to 3. One with flats, one with pressure wounds and one with flats I keep around at work. Sweetwater does carry them too.
That Steinberger XZ25 is worth around $500-600, you guys missed out they were going for upwards of $1k for a little bit there a couple years back, no idea why, but people were HOT for these basses for a minute!
@@GetOffset Yeah it needs some love. I believe the tuners allow for a hex to ft inside. If not, carefully squirt a bit of lubricant. Then get the strings off and undo the tuners the whole way, clean and use a bit of lithium grease on the threads. The screws were probably chromed insufficiently and the sweat from the hand when playing up high or just constantly picking it up there over the years wore away and then the screws were not stainless and something that corroded easily. Unfortunately on the lesser expensive instruments (especially back in the day) the hardware is where they would skimp. But it could be put back into decent condition. One thing, I have a headless Strandberg and those type tuners at full tension can be tough. Strandberg provides a little hex tool that magnetically can stick to a hidden part on the guitar and can be easily grabbed making tuning much easier. BTW both the Purple Musicman and your Purple guitar are stunning. Definitely deserve the top spot. Good Luck!👍
Wow, thanks for the detailed write up! We have a few household projects that are a priority right now, but I'd love to get this back into working shape for him 💜 I bet you're 100% right about the sweat and cheaper hardware. He went HARD at those shows!
I know everyone’s situation in life is different, but I think it’s a shame that a guy can’t have six bass guitars. What is it that you can’t pay the water bill this month or are you going to go buy some saving bonds with the money to secure your retirement. Seems weird I’m in my 50s and I sold some guitars in my 20s and now I’ve gone back and found replacements that are the same year, make, and model. DONT sell any of them.
Hey I'm not sure if you watched the whole video, but it was a joke. We're not actually selling any of these. We're probably going to fix two of them up. He did say he probably wants to donate the Gio, though.
I don't know-might be a TH-cam thing. I was careful to try to make the bass as loud as my voice when I was editing this, but ultimately it's all up to TH-cam's compression.
Videos like this, no matter what the subject matter, make me wonder if the people making them realize how arrogant and pretentious they sound. Was this video only made to generate negative engagement? Also why are you so condescending towards your husband? The guy seams really nice, you should have a tech look at his basses and have them set up and looked at.
Haha, thanks for watching! The title was his idea, along with the idea of publishing it on April Fool's Day. I wanted to call it "Rating my husband's basses." The thumbnail was also his idea. I read him your comment and my initial reply and he said, "You don't owe this guy shit." Have a nice night!

Personally, I would not let that Sterling go.It's not a $400 instrument, it's a $1000+ instrument. Also, Roger from Less Than Jake plays them.
Thanks for the info! That's super interesting and cool!

@@GetOffset 800 is a super price! i would keep it! btw music man has released a short scale version of the stingray, have a nice day
Those sparkly basses are gorgeous!
Thank you, I agree!
OMG that stingray is awesome!
I'm pretty proud of it tbh

Respect on those receipts!
I wasn't surprised he kept it, but I was VERY surprised he didn't have one for all of the guitars!
leave this man's basses alone, he is trying his best.
Are you all even watching the video? The video which was HIS IDEA???
Is this true?
Hold up were you in a band called Hemorrhoid Victim?
@@catcavespdxyes I am that boy.

Oh I REALLY want to try one. I want to try the Fallout guitar as well. I've really liked most of the G&Ls I've played.

great video, love the sparkle basses. I'm getting my explorer refinished in purple sparkle myself!
Hope it looks awesome (can't imagine it looking less than amazing)

Daaaaaang! Not sure what this one would've gone for in its condition.
@@GetOffset They're such great basses. Love them!
That USA sterling is very cool!
Slappa da bass
I am an “actual bassist” who loves the bass vi. It’s a learning curve though.
BB King was known for winding the whole string onto the tuning peg. The whole thing.
That's also funny
@@GetOffset Maybe he started doing that way back when strings broke a lot and that way, he'd have some extra on hand!
Great vid! I recently traded away my 5 string and I'm missing it a little right now 😅
Oh no! You want one of Rick's? lololol
The Steinberger is a 1000!
If I can only dig into fixing up one of these, it'd be that. I really wonder why the neck plate screws were rusting.

the problem with the steinburger

I can see why! Going to put it through its paces on my Bronco later

get rig of beside MM basses , trade out other for a new one
Hah, I don't think that's a bad idea, but I also don't think Rick is interested in getting rid of any of his basses.
You need to fix up these basses and get them in good playing order.
Click bait? Geesh
You betcha

Downvoted for you thinking quality short scales dont exist, especially as a Stingray fan.
I need more, though!
