Nice project. Good to see a job where the rock thickness is where it needs to be. Just a tid bit of info for any others thinking about tackling this project. Lay down a filter fabric ( weed mat ) after compacting the soil and before the rock. It really helps to stabilize the rock and deter it from getting swallowed by the soil whether from heavy rains and/or freeze - thaw cycles in the colder regions. Thanks so much JR!! Quick question, when you say deter the fabric what did you mean by that? Trying to up my paver game, have another project at the new house.
@@KomarProject Referring to the rock getting deterred from pushing down or drawn down into the soil. Actually you can cut back on the thickness of the baserock when using fabric, depending on the type of installation and the quality and thickness of the fabric.

After 7 years of looking at the spawling concrete weed jungle that was once a sort of attempt at a patio from a previous owner, I just put in a kickass paved patio thanks to your video! Cheers!
You did a good job the one thing I would have done differently would have been to put down the poly when it is completely dry. The water mixed with the poly stains the bricks and is not as clean looking.
Thats what I was thinking. But he used white bricks. I compared before and after sand pictures, it didnt seem like too much staining. Maybe its only noticeable with red bricks
1 thing I will add for those using the polymeric sand- Be careful that there's no moisture on the blocks when putting the sand out. Also, it's very important to only lightly mist the patio to activate the polymeric. Any excess water on the surface will leave polymeric residue that is a nightmare to clean off.
I'm icpi certified and this is actually pretty accurate though I would use containment fabric (geotextile) so the fines don't wash out of your base over the years, a machine tamper because your not going to get it compacted enough with just a hand tamp, and then overlay your pavers draw a circle and cut them all at once with a cut off saw. Also the washed concrete sand should be applied with screed poles just like he did to get a consistent depth, it's not just for leveling you're meant to tamp the pavers into it pushing the sand up between the cracks and then the poly sand is swept in the top of the cracks making the pavers interlocking. If you rent a plate tamper you can get a pad for the bottom when you tamp pavers down or just use a piece of plywood as not to scuff the surface. You're also going to want to build a wood fire pizza oven next to that nice patio 👌.
Very good video! Thank you! I'm guessing that the total materials cost is much more than poured, colored concrete. BTW, "Tampering" is interfering with (something) in order to cause damage or make unauthorized alterations, which you didn't. "Tamping" is ramming or packing (a substance) down or into something firmly, which is what you did.
I enjoyed watching your video and learning. I have a small project that I’m gonna use your video as my guide. You made it very simple to understand, and very entertaining at the same time bro. Thanks.
One of the most important question is how much did it cost? Also don't look like you changed your lawn irrigation pattern, so does the sprinklers wet your fire pit and chairs? Looks good!
Some great ideas here! I recently put down a shed Base. It was on a slope. To get it level I had breeze blocks on the lower side. Then used an 8ft length of 3 x 2 with a level on top. If you’ve never done this type of work before and think this guy is great: 1) There’s no scenario where you don’t rent a compactor here. The patio is way too big to be properly compacted with a hand tamper. 2) Don’t go side to side while screeding as it unnecessarily digs into your base (you see it happening in the video). 3) I have no idea why you wouldn’t rent a concrete saw instead. It’s almost like you didn’t read my comment. 1) the equipment I said to rent (compactor, saw) take up about the size of a lawnmower. Pretty sure you’ll squeeze it in. 2) they’d cost, at most, $100 to rent for a few days which is literally nothing compared to the money you’d spend on brick and materials. 3) They’d make the job way easier, and save a ton of time 4) most importantly, using them would make your patio last WAY longer without shifting and splitting. If you’re going to spend money, make it last. No I don’t make TH-cam videos. Sorry I’m trying to save people from doing a terrible job so they don’t waste their money.
You and your family really did a fantastic job! What a motivator you are Thanks for making it look doable! Exactly what I've been looking for. The circle can go anywhere in the yard and it looks like it belongs there, You are one hard working son of gun!
Oh man, we love doing circular patio cutting by laying your pattern larger than your circle diameter, then scribe your circle with a paver marker or masonry pencil and cut the pavers on the ground with a continuous circular cut with the grinder. Then drop your soldier course around that perfect circle and lock in with the snap edge. thanks for the video!
You forgot to run a plate compactor over the pavers before you put down the polymeric sand. This causes the base sand bed material to lock in the pavers before the poly sand is applied. Also the poly sand should not be applied unless it's 100% dry.
Just wanted to say that I thought this was incredibly well done. There are a lot of videos online but most aren't all that helpful. Your video was helpful and rather entertaining. Thor is awesome as well!
Great video man! Just be careful cutting those pavers without a mask on. That silica dust is no joke and can cause serious health issues over the long haul.
That patio wasn't wet when you put on the polysand?!

Perfect video! Great step by step instructions with a nice balance of humor by including normal life interruptions with family pet. Also, showing family involvement gives wholesome vibe to the video as well. Great job on your project and composing this video!
It looks wonderful... Thank you for sharing. I really liked the fact that you gave the names of all the materials you used. This detail is very important for beginners like me that have no clue of the materials needed for this project. Thank You!! 👍👍👍😊
Looks great. Did you consider cutting every other paver on the soldier course to eliminate gaps? I’m about to install a curved patio with a sailor course and I’m wondering how many I may have to cut 😫
instead of cutting them individually mark your outside line and lay pavers just past the line. mark your line again onto the pavers and make one continuous cut along the outside
I’m sure the answer to my question is buried somewhere in the 1.4K comments... How much did you spend on your project? We are trying to get an Idea for budgeting purposes! Great Video! 👍💪🏼
should of blew off the excess polymeric sand on top of the pavers with a leaf blower, then watered. if not it makes the pavers look more hazy after it drys.
It looks great you made it look so easy. I just had someone take the lawn out for an 11’ diameter circular patio. Going to use used brick Thank you you for the video
When you said "Digging down 9" inches down in a 12' diameter circle is hard work," I know the pain of the statement. I just recently started digging 7" down into a 12' diameter circle. The digging required is exhausting...especially when you run into rocks and roots. In hindsight, I should have hired someone to excavate it with heavy equipment but I finally got to the 7" depth. Also, I'm dealing with a 12.5" grade drop from top side of the circle to the bottom side of the circle so I am going to have to build up the bottom side a bit with a retaining wall. I have watched your video several times for insight about how you proceeded with each step of the project...kinda using it as a template for my project. Thanks for sharing and best wishes!!!
Not really. Just as long as you start leveling out with the gravel. So when you get to the sand you are right where you want to me with pitch and evenness
But thats a walking area tho. Do you really need to go that crazy with 6" of of gravel plus 1" of sand. I done a few driways and pools etc. And i alwayd just dig down 4" to 5" and add just paver bases. Of course i compacted first then add the 2" layer of paver base. Add water and compacted again. And the driveway stay solid with no issues quiet along time. But im sure that all depends on the soil as well. here in florida the soil in most places is stiff and does not need alot of digging when installing pavers. Anyway you seen to have more knowledge thsn me.
For larger patios, IE 20' by 20' what is the best method of leveling the gravel? We have a MASSIVE amount of various grades in our yard so some spots are MUCH deeper than others- will this effect how the pavers settle?
@@hsangha01ify I have already laid the gravel, we tried our best to get the ground level but we only eyeballed it, and then when it rained we saw all the low spots
Taylor Huson take my advice, put your pavers on concrete, saves time and money, this is they way of the novice, dead wrong, unless you like readjusting shifting pavers every year. Outside edge is glued down.
Best video out there my man! My wife and I have been following it to a tee. Was really hard for us to dig out 5 inches on our super compacted dirt, along with hundreds of roots (we live in a forest) but got it done... Gravel arrives in 3 days, (we rented a plate compacter as you suggested) pavers arrive at the end of next week. Thanks again man!

1) the equipment I said to rent (compactor, saw) take up about the size of a lawnmower. Pretty sure you’ll squeeze it in.
2) they’d cost, at most, $100 to rent for a few days which is literally nothing compared to the money you’d spend on brick and materials.
3) They’d make the job way easier, and save a ton of time
4) most importantly, using them would make your patio last WAY longer without shifting and splitting. If you’re going to spend money, make it last.
No I don’t make TH-cam videos. Sorry I’m trying to save people from doing a terrible job so they don’t waste their money.
Nice. Please wear a mask when cutting and putting polymer sand.
You and your family really did a fantastic job! What a motivator you are Thanks for making it look doable! Exactly what I've been looking for. The circle can go anywhere in the yard and it looks like it belongs there, You are one hard working son of gun!
Thanks so much Tracey. Love hearing stuff like that! You made my day
Nice work.
Thanks so much
Great work man! Can't wait to see what Thor forces you to make next :D
Charles hahaha it’s cuz of him I’m building the deck
❤️ Great job you made it look so easy!🤗 wish I can do that myself too!
I’m sure you can
Fantastic video!
Also please look up "tamper" vs. "tamp"
Wow love it I like the idea of the sand cement to pour then just brush and wet it
Piece of cake.
OMGosh! I love this video so much! Entertaining and actually made me feel like could do this! AWESOME!!!
Totally can!! Just some time and labor. You can do anything Melissa
You forgot to run a plate compactor over the pavers before you put down the polymeric sand. This causes the base sand bed material to lock in the pavers before the poly sand is applied. Also the poly sand should not be applied unless it's 100% dry.
This is amazing. I like it. Definitely gonna sub to your channel. Finally, TH-cam algorithm suggested something good.
Fabi hahaha that dame algorithm gets me every time. Hope you get a chance to check out some other videos. Thanks for the support
Best paver video I've come across so far
Thank you jonathan !!
Just wanted to say that I thought this was incredibly well done. There are a lot of videos online but most aren't all that helpful. Your video was helpful and rather entertaining. Thor is awesome as well!
Thanks so much Clint !!!! Love hearing stuff like this.
Great video man! Just be careful cutting those pavers without a mask on. That silica dust is no joke and can cause serious health issues over the long haul.
KyleForAwhile thanks so much!!!! Mask for sure next time
That patio wasn't wet when you put on the polysand?!
Hello my friend. nice work. Floor leveling was great. Your wife kicked you nice, because you gave up too much dust. :-) Gorgeous team work with the family. great work. congratulations. You can also make a wooden camellia here. Thank you for sharing.... 1. like :-)
Şahane bilgiler thank you so much. Ya Huney Bunny didn’t like the dust lol
Perfect video! Great step by step instructions with a nice balance of humor by including normal life interruptions with family pet. Also, showing family involvement gives wholesome vibe to the video as well. Great job on your project and composing this video!
Thanks so much !!!
It looks wonderful... Thank you for sharing. I really liked the fact that you gave the names of all the materials you used. This detail is very important for beginners like me that have no clue of the materials needed for this project. Thank You!! 👍👍👍😊
I really want to see how to do the measurements for cutting the pavers - slow- motion. Thank you. Excellent video.
Be careful next time when putting the polymeric sand down make sure the pad is not wet/ it’s not raining because it could stick to the surface
Looks great. Did you consider cutting every other paver on the soldier course to eliminate gaps? I’m about to install a curved patio with a sailor course and I’m wondering how many I may have to cut 😫
You can try I just cut as needed
instead of cutting them individually mark your outside line and lay pavers just past the line. mark your line again onto the pavers and make one continuous cut along the outside
Bloopers were sooo cute... Thor is a superstar!
Thank you for sharing your idea and experience was awesome I’m going to build a patio for my wife her mother day gift thanks to your videos
Awesome!!! Good luck with the build !
Komar Project cool
I’m sure the answer to my question is buried somewhere in the 1.4K comments... How much did you spend on your project? We are trying to get an Idea for budgeting purposes! Great Video! 👍💪🏼
Spent just a little over 1k on the materials
should of blew off the excess polymeric sand on top of the pavers with a leaf blower, then watered. if not it makes the pavers look more hazy after it drys.
Music not necessary.
Great job.👍🏻
It looks great you made it look so easy. I just had someone take the lawn out for an 11’ diameter circular patio. Going to use used brick Thank you you for the video
That’s going to look rally cool. I love the old common brick
Just watched it again and enjoyed it. Took some notes as this will be the first time I do something like this.
Awesome. Good luck with the project !!
I great job. Doing my circle patio this spring. Would like to get clarity on how you measured the edges to cut with the diamond blade.
I payed them out and used a string and pencil. Then I could cut each paver individually
That grinder is not made for a 7” wheel. Pucker factor 11 on that bad boy. 😬
Dude hahah great narrative haha. I’m planning to do this myself as well.
Thanks so much!!! Good luck with your install
Best video I have watched, not only did it tell me everything I needed to know, I loved the humor! Dog was cool too.
Thanks Jim glad I could help. Good luck on your project.
Ya it’s super labor intensive. Lol
You need a string line with a line level on it or a transit. I could see that conduit bending from here.
Never use a 7in blade on a 4.5in grinder the rpm is way to high if the blade fractures you are screwed you got lucky brother.
Yes was gonna say the same lol. Especially with no guard! 4.5" cutting wheel will work just as well
That's beautiful. How much did your project cost all together.
It was about 1k if I remember correctly
Love the contribution by Thor. Great job! Thanks for a great video.
Lol he is awesome
It looks awesome, cant wait to get started on ours. Its all about family quality time.
Sure is. Good luck with your project !!
I do have a question. Does it matter how level your ground is before you throw the driveway rocks in?
The area we put it in was disturbed dirt from building the house. If you have compact dirt there may be a chance to go a little less.
Come to Ontario and don't make a solid ground before you put interlock, one of best video, congratulations brother!
Depends where you live if it freezes you definitely need that much base
&?*.....
Hard red clay in Georgia, I am also sticking with a 4” depth with just base and those newish polymer pads, rather than gravel.
For larger patios, IE 20' by 20' what is the best method of leveling the gravel? We have a MASSIVE amount of various grades in our yard so some spots are MUCH deeper than others- will this effect how the pavers settle?
Can you make sure you get that ground level and compacted before you put gravel down
@@hsangha01ify I have already laid the gravel, we tried our best to get the ground level but we only eyeballed it, and then when it rained we saw all the low spots
That’s awesome man. The compact ground is hard to dig through but gives you a great base for the patio. Good luck and keep me posted
@@KomarProject I wanted to show you our final project. WE LOVE IT! Thank you again for your awesome 'how to' video. We could not have done it with out this. th-cam.com/video/EE_YoDK8fks/w-d-xo.html
Love how the wife & daughter come out to help.. 👍
Ya they are pretty amazing with helping out.
Damn watch out with your fingers, pretty risky without using cover
Should have waited for a dry sunny day before putting the paver locking sand.
As long as your pavers are dry it doesn’t matter. You have to spray water on it anyway after. We actually got caught in the rain doing it so we quickly got it in the block, put a little water down and let the rain do the rest
LOVE THE END! maybe I can play with him..
😂 hahaha
Good Job , Beautiful Family , Thank You your Ideal
Your very welcome
great video ! cheers !
funny and informational.
i hear with with little helpers. My 6 yo is always around and i love it! Built our shed together and i know he'll remember this forever.
That’s awesome man!!!! I still remember the first thing I build with my father. A wall in the basement lol. But still have that memory
