He's so cute!! If the nerve pain does become an issue I'd recommend asking the vet for a script to get Gabapentin compounded for him. It's amazing for nerve pain in both people and animals. I take it, my Labrador was on it and I've had a 700g guinea pig on it. It won't do anything about inflammation but it does reduce general chronic and acute pain. I typically think of it as bringing my background pain down and I don't get as much electric shock bolts of pain anymore.
We've only just got a guinea pig who's over a year old. Unfortunately he got dropped and now his hind legs are completely paralyzed. We took him to the vet straight away and he's saying that if there's no improvement by tomorrow, he wants to put him down. I'm so upset but it sounds like that will happen. He fell from quite a height for a guinea pig. Maybe 4ft.
Hi Jacinta you need to be guided by the vet and they should conduct an X-ray. In the case of Rufus the x-ray was hazy in the area and so potential for swelling to decrease and nerves to improve existed. However if your vet conducts an x-ray and it is a clear break then yes euthanasia is warranted. In addition to all of this it is vital that pain management be given as well as anti inflamatory medications. I hope this gives you direction. My black and white pigguie "Panda" was grabbed and dropped by a Vulture and fracture his spine and damaged his spinal cord. The Vet told me I have to express his bladder but didn't show me how. Vet is not to familiar with piggies I guess... Can you help me? With that and any other advice.... this just happened 3 days ago

Why was it where a vulture could grab it?

Hi you should get him to a vet to see if anything can be done to assist him. guinea pigs with issues like this also require pain management.
@@GuineaPigStuff we did that was in 2020 back then hes doing fine 😊
Poor little man
Thanks for the love, Susan. 💕
