    Tanya you are so good at capturing the fun and joy of owning and restoring motor cars from the past. You are so lucky to get to go along on the drives through the beautiful English countryside in a classic car ! Ivan and John are living our dreams through the videos you and Susie are making. Have a blessed day each and every one.

      She has been utterly flippin' brilliant. Really a great asset to Shed Racing. I agree with every word David. (see my comment above or below).
      PS You have a blessed day, each and every one too David, because that was a lovely thing to think and say.

    Ive trespasses in my old back yard! Lovely to see Brooklands again. I spent a lot of time there, one thing an another..... The key with a any restoration or repair even, in my opinion, is sympathy. That is what John, Ivan and I have in common. I just love watching the work and learning more as the weeks go by. If you like old cars, how can you not love this channel and everybody envolved in it! Tnx all. Bw from Germany. Mike.

    This video has encouraged me to seek out others featuring Salmsons. Bearing in mind Ivan's comments about Marchal headlights being rather over the top for this sort of vehicle, I was rather intrigued to see several vehicles fitted with those lights. A retro fitting perhaps?
    Of course the twin cam engine brought membership of a rather exclusive club.

    Question. Why does the Salmson fall in the cyclecar group?

    • @paulhitchcock9760
      @paulhitchcock9760 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cyclecars were defined as being of less than 1100cc and a certain weight. For this they paid less tax

    • @paulhitchcock9760
      @paulhitchcock9760 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Low weight and cubic capacity which brought a tax reduction

    • @davidprocter3578
      @davidprocter3578 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulhitchcock9760 Well I suppose that explains why so many models had timber and canvas bodies. The Austin Seven did that fall inside or outside the category? and when did the three wheel rule come into play??

    • @paulhitchcock9760
      @paulhitchcock9760 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidprocter3578 British taxation was utterly different. £1 for each horsepower was payable annually. A lot of money then and this basis for motor taxation tended to produce vehicles with unduly long stroke cylinders.
      Three wheelers were regarded much like motorcycles and were not supposed to be equipped with reverse gear! They could be driven on a motorcycle licence.

    • @davidprocter3578
      @davidprocter3578 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulhitchcock9760 The no reverse gear rule still applied in the 1970's many drivers of Reliants disabled the cars reverse gear in order to drive them on a motor cycle ticket. But at that time you would require a full licence to drive a Salmson on the road, at what point did cars with four wheels stop being included in the cycle car category. I remember in the early seventies having to go to Tollworth to tax my bikes.which varied in tax class depending on engine size.
