I feel the same way when I watch videos from Florida 😂 All I can do is watch and admire 💚 But I do enjoy seeing all the different kinds of orchids that exist, helps me grow my never ending wishlist 🤣 I took home two of the oriental smile butterfly but I’m still searching for the very hard to find Oriental Smile Fantasy. That is the orchid that caught my eye when I first started getting interested in orchids. I do see it in some videos from Florida but I can’t find it here 😞 Mahalo for watching and I hope you’re having a great day 💕

Kelly, nice to see the new videos! If I'm ever on Oahu, how easy / hard is it to get the right certificate to bring home an orchid? I've gotten them at the airport before and it was very easy. Is it the same if I get something from S&W or Home Depot? Do you know? Thanks for the beautiful images!
Aloha Donna! I’m not familiar with the process of getting a certificate . Do you live on one of the outer islands or on the mainland? Because if you purchase from S&W, they’d be able to ship your plants to you. The only state they don’t ship to is California.
I think I realize why your Home Depots have so many choices compared to Florida. You told me once that you guys don’t have nearly as many orchid nurseries in Hawaii as we do here in Florida. You also told me that many orchid nurseries there are not open to the public. They are more online sales and also to big box stores. So orchid collectors in Hawaii most likely turn to HD for orchids. We in Miami have an orchid nursery everywhere we turn. People here visit multiple nurseries for orchid shopping. We never think of HD as a reliable orchid place. They sell standard Phals and bag babies. By the most part it’s always the same repeated orchids, or common orchids you find at any show. I’ve never seen anything close to what you have over there at any HD here. This is my own speculation of the markets. What are your thoughts?
I’d have to agree with you. It’s much easier for nurseries to ship their products to HD because they order in bulk. Most nurseries don’t want to deal one on one with customers so it’s much easier for them this way. Also the person in charge of ordering at Home Depot must have recognized the demand for orchids because they have definitely stepped up not only the quantity of orchids they carry but also the variety. We orchid lovers on Oahu are very lucky because not only is it convenient with several HD locations on the island, the prices are also very reasonable. But I still wish we had more nurseries to visit 😂

Not too many orchids sale in Home Depot.
Only few Phalaenopsis.
Our store used to be like that also, only selling phalaenopsis. But in the last couple of years they started bringing in different varieties.
