Hi Jon, just finished 2 separate short trips (1 week apart) of this area inspired by your video. Absolutely beautiful and true to Wisconsin form, one was in 80 F weather and this last one in mid 40’s 😂. Just want to say thank you for your wholesome videos; you have a knack for including pertinent information that was helpful in planning for these segments. Also, your cow joke was a hoot…fyi, 0:03 my girls at home always get a ‘square’ meal!!🤣🤣 They also make it challenging to get away but wouldn’t trade the life for anything! I love our beautiful state of Wisconsin. Thanks again for sharing ☺️
Nice hike! Not every good trip requires a giant mountain in the background. Sometimes it’s just enjoyable to step into the mud, wake up next to a snake, find a porcupine, get to the place where even cliff bars taste good, and return to functioning truck w four good tires on it! Thanks for posting ! I enjoyed your November walk!!
My wife is a 1000-Miler, and this video brings back many memories. Linda grew-up in the Medford/Dorchester area and I like this video. The Mondeau Esker trail is very rough & rogued, Thanks! Tom & Linda Vanderloop, Ice-Age Supporters. 6-15-2022
Outstanding Jon! By the way, if you count the dam at Lac Vieux Desert, it is 26 dams. LOL. Loved and appreciated the shout out. Our family stops at the one sticks every year. The old cedar ones were even cooler because they had leaks shooting out 50 feet every so often. I was sad to see them replaced, but I get it. We hike down to that last spot you were standing by the river. Great video. Well-edited. BTW, I do remember your penchant for warm hands when putting in contacts.
I just started watching your videos. I've been hiking the IAT but haven't camped overnight yet. It's good to see your campsites, thanks for showing them! I loved how you talked about food on the last day, it's all I think about especially on a day I know I'll be in a town or heading home lol! Really enjoyed this video.
Greatly enjoyed your video! I've discovered the joys of backpacking/thru hiking on the Ice Age Trail this year . Your video brought back many memories. Thanks for sharing and for all the people of the Ice Age Trail Alliance who make it possible.
I hike with my sixteen year old daughter and it is comforting and a delight. She also clears the spider webs for me! We are hoping to hike a segment or two of theI IAT this May.
Great video. That trail is on my bucket list. Rough start, but, I guess that is all part of the experience. Nice channel. Mew follower here. All the best, Crow✌️
Nice video. I enjoyed it but have a couple of comments. It would be nice to see more of you setting up camp at the end of the day and eating dinner, etc. It's part of the journey. Also, how and what you are eating in the morning and during the day. You are missing a big part of the backpacking experience. Did you have a water filtration system or were you drinking the water right from these creeks? One more thing - why did you keep saying "dirty beavers." Do you have a problem with beavers, but not the men who built the 25 hydroelectric dams? Interesting perspective for a hiker.
We too have been experiencing record high temperatures for November...this has sure afforded a ton more opportunities to get out and explore before the cold and snow sets in for the next 5-6 months...new sub and dropping in from Nova Scotia where my channel currently features hikes I have been taking close to home during international travel restrictions...take care, be safe, and have a great day....
I'm starting to make adventure vlogs and a friend and I are planning on backpacking part of the Ice Age Trail, would you have any recommendations for where we should start/ hike to?
@@connerv1914 I like heading either east or west from the trailhead near the Mondeaux Flowage. Down by Devils Lake is cool as well. One of my favorite sections is Kettle Moraine.
@@jonallenoutside Awesome! I love Devils Lake and Kettle Moraine but I havent heard of Mondeaux Flowage so I guess I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the idea :) Also the Big Mac moment is such a relatable moment, a cup of cold water with ice cubes in a cheap plastic cup never sounded so good.
I set the camera down and walk away, then go back and get it. Then I edit it so you only see the part where I'm walking away. I really thought about doing that when I had to ford the creek but the water was so cold I decided against it.
@@jonallenoutside Very cool effect. I could swear you had someone else with you. I suppose if you'd done it on the creek ford you'd have had to recross twice!
"i've been crushing those all day (sprees) and its been awesome!" GREAT QUOTE!!! hahaha keep on trucking!!!

Great comment! Yes, having functioning tires is a plus.

Love the video, Jon! Hope to see some more IAT videos in the spring! Loved the music/editing too- well done! An easy subscribe!
Thank you! Big plans for spring. Stay tuned!
Great video! Just started hiking this year with my kids during covid-19.
Thank you! It’s a great way to spend time with family.

Thank you! It was great to sneak in one more trip before winter.
I want to visit this trail, but i want to visit the Dundee mountain and find a specific cave entrance. How feasible do you think this is?
@@Luv-dq5th Sorry, I’m not familiar with the cave or mountain you are talking about.

I think those spider webs get blown across by the wind.
How do you take the photos of yourself, especially from a distance? Very nice video!

clear water is not mean it is safe to drink..you still need filter or boil..
Yup. I even filter water that has been cached in jugs. It only takes a few minutes.
