- AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND November 27, 2023. A Royal New Zealand Air Force Lockheed Hercules Aircraft 04 made a final flight from Base Auckland (Whenuapai) today into retirement after 55 years of service. Several Cities were flown over.
It flew over my home, very low, and very quick, yesterday afternoon. Being ex-military, I have flown a lot in the Hercs, so in probablity, I have flown in this one. Thanks for the memory, I am 76 young.

1968 is the year I was borne. I wish I could afford to retire with it.😁

AG, yes great service without many dramas! A few years back I was to board a Herc to film the then new 757 but the Herc was coming down from Fiji and had an engine fire. It was extinguished by diving down at max speed! My flight was cancelled. cheers, Mike

ER, the AC 40 was down here for a few weeks but few chances of filming as I can get no intel as camera over Base no longer working! COVID in the past but long recovery! Our summer is trying to come but being held up by very frequent heavy rain. cheers, Mike
Wow, that's sad, I have the 8mm home movie here, from when they Herc's arrived, The fly past with its predecessors = Hastings & DC6, 1965/66 (NZ was the 1st country to receive the model H - 01, 02 & 03 were the 1st off the Lockheed production line 04 & 05 came in 68) I feel so old

The faithful old family station wagon has been traded in finally. Been good old birds.
KD, just wait and see what the newer model will offer. Will probably still be in service when we have departed! Mike
@@AirflowNZ yes I'm definitely looking forward to seeing those curved blades on the J's when they arrive. Seeing the P8's operating at Ohakea is cool at present and the occasional sight of Brendan Deere's recent return to the sky of a P51.

yeah pretty sure the J's will arrive in 2024
@@Tuhoeterrafirst J just rolled out the paintshop. The 130s are too important to be missing from the fleet. I'm picking they will retire as the new one is about to come online.
FG, they are retiring a little early as they are running out of ours, 04 was down to 2 so did not extend farewell to down south. Not worth cost of doing one prior to retirement. Mike

Probably sell it to a third world country and it’ll probably do another 50 years.
so far no comment from Defence Dept. Chile purchased our old Sesprites, perhaps they will purchase 04 and the others. I seem to recall Lockheed Martin may take them? cheers, Mike
