    I'm going through that vacation stage at the moment myself. I picked GW2 years ago but never gave it a proper try as my friends moved to other games. I've come back, and WOW. I'm blown away. I've started 5 characters, I still can't decide what to main and my highest level character is 53. I really didn't realise what I was missing with GW2 and I'm very excited to see what else is coming. It's really odd that I'm relating this much to your video and I think that's really cool, so I've subbed and I'll stick around for the future content. Awesome video!

      @@Z5l9 Same. I loved the abundance of events, even outside of the metas. And it had nice exploration. I think the EoD maps are well-designed. I just wish they had as much to do outside of the metas like the old HoT maps. HoT was also a bit challenging, which they toned down a lot with PoF and EoD. But I've enjoyed all of it. So glad I got back into this game.

    No, the problem of GW2 is the group finder tools from 2010s and the hundreds of currencies. Every time I look to get back to GW2, I quickly quit as I don't have time to sit in chat trying to find a group or read a manual on what all the new currencies are for.

    I like the distinction between vacation and home MMO's. It's switched around for me through the years, it used to be LOTRO until GW2 came out and LOTRO's Mordor expansion put me in a rut that lasted several years. During that time GW2 was definitely my home MMO.
    I hope the small expansion model works out for them, I personally am not a fan of it in LOTRO. Can't beat the hype of a full expansion on release day. GW2 is a whole different beast though, so perhaps it fits better there. I also though that the quality of End of Dragons really fell off in the second half, so perhaps the new model prevents those quality differences within releases.

    Native Controller Support that Rumbles when i hit enemies and i buy every expansion of Guild wars 2 and pre-purchase the ones from the next 10 years on the spot. I want to play this. But not with MK and not with the existing Gampad solutions. Tried them. Gameplay fine but Manage your inventoy after 30 mins of Questing? Im Out. PLEASE ARENANET pick up the Project that this one guy working for you did in his free time back in 2020... If you want to make Guild wars REALLY scale-able and think about the next 5-10 Years of Gaming for heavens sake implement native controller support there is just no way around it imo ..

    @8:18 Double-check that story about a second round of layoffs. Only source was one non-GW2 employee tweet (the one who was let go), and backchannels with devs at the time basically said it wasn't true. Edit: For hard proof, there was never a layoff notice posted in 2020 to Washington ESD, which Anet are required to do (and did for the 2019 layoffs).

    I was hardcore into WoW back in the day, like 5-6 raid days besides other stuff, and it really ruined most RPGs for me... as soon as some NPC wants me to run back and forth for the 3rd time to get stuff and kill things I get so annoyed and most times drop out of the game...never stopped trying new games tho.
    The only "RPG" that really worked well since then was the Mass Effect trilogy and now I have given GW2 a shot and am positively surprised. It is soooo relaxed... I'm alone, no clue about anything in the story/game, hell I don't even know if my skilling is somewhat decent... but it doesn't matter, it's just fun to play! Not too hard or too easy, no pressure, no feeling "lost" like in some other MMOs at the beginning, no thoughts of wasting money when not playing enough each month. I even enjoy the jumping puzzles, which I would never ever have guessed ^^
    I wish I would have known about the real character of GW2 back when it was new. In the WoW community it was mostly looked down upon and badmouthed... also everybody was so invested in WoW.

    Guild wars 2 does all the right things gameplay wise but has repeatedly made a lot of bad decisions development wise. Been playing for 8 years and theyve delivered some great stories but man... The last few years have really felt short and a common agreement in the community is they focus so much on everything having a grand spectacle that they struggle to deliver on the minor plots. I really don't think we needed to kill off all the elder dragons for it, both Joko and Balthazar put dragons in the background well and even gave us an interesting dynamic of needing to help them. I hope they can use this new format to deliver not just consistent but quality content, the latest chapter definitely missed the mark after a year of uploading old content and another year long dry spell before EoD's release but I'll still be hopeful that I'm not making these new legendaries for nothing !

    Everything depends on monetization model for those mini-expansions.
    If one of those will cost as much as large expansion then Arenanet will shoot themselves in foot.
    Also people demand free updates but if that roadmap is set in stone, then there will be no more free Living Story updates every major update will be locked behind paywall (like LOTRO). More players might leave game unless like in LOTRO updates will be available to buy with gems. I belive that season pass would work in GW2.

    • @BrightlifeMMOs
      @BrightlifeMMOs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good thoughts! Although I do believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that the quarterly updates will be free with the yearly updates being paid. But good thoughts man!!

    • @sw-gs
      @sw-gs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrightlifeMMOs It is up to Arenanet or rather NCSoft to change politics of monetization, but more than them shareholders are in charge of planning.
      Also roadmap in most MMO's genre is not a solid plan to expand any game. I would call it mostly a bunch of ideas that developing team has and based reaction of community they might either monetize it or not. Like I wrote is up to shareholders of NCSoft based on messages from community and developing team.
      Also according to charts NCSoft lost up to 3,46% on stock exchange in comparison to last year, so it might be a large influence on change of plans for all their brands.
      I was sick too this week ;)

    • @Fiercesoulking
      @Fiercesoulking ปีที่แล้ว

      It will properly change but it is at the moment it is the first part and then 2 more in 6 months interval but in general what they do is copy what WoW does cutting the expansion into smaller parts . Since the big lay off and Mike O'Brien left a lot of the bad things got copied. When I watched how Shadowland is to grindy to much of the same and so on I could 100% say the same to LW season 5. Sure this was all to reduce cost and increase attention span but I hated it so much I left like most of the rest of my guild.

    • @sw-gs
      @sw-gs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fiercesoulking Sorry to hear that you left the game :(
      I'm rather affraid of what loosing money by NCSoft in the long span of time will push them to change with game monetization. Same happend to ArcheAge when by covering budget loses XL Games introduced so many items in game shop that entire balance of game was destroyed in one year, maybe less.
      So what you wrote might become truth in the future: they release small update with lot of griding to focus players on till next update and also put items from that update in Gem Store for players to buy sooner (maybe even introduce new currency), rather than grind.
      One good way of out would (like I wrote in first comment) be season pass or annual pass, allowing players to support game developement yet reciving non invisive perks in form of cosmetics. Like China version of VIP model. You would buy season pass with each expansion and through each new mini-expansions you could spend money to advance track with gems or complete achievements and mastery levels to fill up bar needed for upgrading season pass level allowing you to support game either in real life money and those players who like to grind gold and exchange them to gems would also be rewarded. But from now what I wrote there are no such plans.

      @battlebots1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to own HoT and PoF to play lws3 and 4 respectively? Even if you unlocked them via login, they too are behind a paywall. The only difference (in this function) is that the quarterly updates don't require a login or retroactive purchase, you just get them with the expansion purchase.

    Greetings!
    GW2 is the perfect "vacation game", because there is no progress in gearlevel - once you are 80 and have crafted or earned your ascended gear sets you are done. No progress - nothing.
    Oh yes, you can go for the legendary things - but even they are statwise the same for crying out loud. So once you are geared - thats it. Play the new contend and go away ´till the next content.
    I know that many people like it exactly for that reason (and lots of other reasons ofr it is a great MMO. For me, GW2 will always only be a "vacation" MMO, if my heart and soul MMO is facing issues.
    Hell, I only even started looking into GW2 , as LOTRO (even older, 15 years and counting) had massive problems (servers down) for a quite a while. Ok, LOTRO has a shi*-load of problems of its own with horrible lags and lots of other anoying stuff, but hey - I´m not leaving after 15 years and if there is new content/level up - lets get the new gear. That´s the reason for running the new instances/raids and so on.
    If you are satisfied with new "blingbling" with the next expension, GW2 is a nearly perfect MMO.

      By the way, this logic of yours that gear grinding is the reason you play the game is the most flawed bullshit and the fact that most people think that endless gear grinding is meaningful gameplay is also what has ruined modern gaming and has produced shitfests like modern open world RPG games...
      Doing the hardest fractal should not be done to get gear... it should be done to find out if you can actually beat it... sure, the shiny sword is good and all but the real reward is seeing the last huge boss go down... and to be fair, GW2 does reward you with gear at the highest fractal levels... you just don't really need it... but if you want big numbers, then it's there.... use it...
      Also, the NUMBER ONE reason anyone should be playing any RPG video game (MMORPGs included obviously) should be to explore the world and play the story... people are fucking missing the point in this day and age... big stat numbers don't mean shit... just learn your class, play well, beat the game and enjoy it... and I'm sorry but with all the living world stories and the expansions GW2 has a ton of content and most of it is very high tier... waaaaay better than WoW and probably better than FFXIV since I'm sorry but Final Fantasy games have great stories but FFXIV is super overrated... it's good but nothing too special... at least up to the first expansion that I played... if it gets better at level 70 or 80 I don't give a fuck cause by then it took waaaaay too long to get good and reaching endgame in a video GAME without having had any fun up to that point is the definition of mental illness...
      So, all in all, you're missing the point... the ultimate gear grind is BDO and BDO is the most empty, bare, void of all content game I've ever played... it's the saddest MMO in the market but gear grind morons play it all day long to get the next big weapon that will help them accomplish nothing cause they're just keep farming monsters without any story or real content behind it...

    Even though gw2 has less home mmo players than WoW, Tyria feels more populated, even on a medium pop server compared to WoW. WoW most zones are dead already, plus the chromie time sharding/warmode sharding, and random sharding dude to a shard being too populated. It makes everywhere feel empty until you either get to current content zones(even then if you have warmode on its damn near empty or full of herb/ore farmers since it has less competition than warmode off shard.), or, you change chromie time to an expac, that most alt makers use because its the fastest to level. So all they care about is efficiency, so if you see them they wont even interact or reply back. I liked WoW for its world, not 5 to 6 zones and capital cities.
    Honestly I like Lions Arch more than Boralus. Im newer to gw2 forget the name, but human capital is cooler than SW. Plant capital city is on par if not a little cooler than Darnassus. Rata Sum is way cooler than Exodar. Black Citadel is cooler than Shattarath. Hoelbrak is cooler than orgrimmar. I know there is a capital in Cantha, and perhaps PoF and HoT, so as of right now only appeal WoW has over me is Thunderbluff and Ironforge lol.

    I'm not against the concept of more regular, smaller updates to content, even if it means we have to shell out some cash for DLCs we were used to getting for merely logging in (LW episodes). What concerns the homeowners in GW2 is that the current roadmap leaves new elite specializations and similar character- or profession-driven content uncertain.
    We no longer know when or how this type of content that requires a larger release, both for gameplay and lore, will surface. For many players, particularly those that don't do metas or story, new classes and weapons are the primary selling points for expansions.
    Also, I may have missed it, but A-Net teased development of the next full expansion some months ago. Does this new roadmap replace that or expand on it?

    I understand that developers need to earn money to feed their family and so on... I think no one has an issue with Guild Wars 2 or New World cosmetic items being sold in the item shop, however there has to be more than just clicking the purchase button and then equiping the item on your character right away! In-Game Item Shop has to provide you with half of the raw materials that you can purchase and then you as a player have to combine and craft the purchased items with other items/materials that you gain from World Boss or Dungeon Boss or Finished Quest items and combine them together in order to craft the cosmetic item fo your character! The element that MMO developers have to combat is destroying the laziness of players in this instance 😊
